Dancing With The Stars: Week 3 results

(S06E06) Tom informed us that since they never announced last week's bottom two, no one knows where they stand this week. I doubt that Kristi Yamaguchi was sweating this one out, but no matter. This week's Dancing With The Stars results show featured Kylie Minogue, a little April Fools' joke, and an all-male encore performance courtesy of Steve and Jonathan. ...

'Skating With the Stars' Cast Announced: Bethenny Frankel, Vince Neil to Compete

ABC announced the cast of its new series, 'Skating With the Stars,' on last night's episode of 'Dancing With the Stars.' The spinoff show will feature six celebrities learning how to figure skate with professionals. Competing for the title are reality star Bethenny Frankel, actresses Sean Young and Rebecca Budig, musician Vince Neil, Olympic skier Jonny Moseley and actor/rapper Brandon Mychal Smith. Their professional partners will be announced soon, and Entertainment Weekly reports that the pros "won't necessarily be household names so don't hold out for, say, a Brian Boitano or a Kristi Yamaguchi."...

Dancing With The Stars: Week 9 results

(S07E19) The big question coming into the results show this week, obviously, was who would make it through to the finals. That, on its own, was probably enough to get most of the crowd to tune in. The powers that be could have just banked on it and tossed any old random segment out there to fill up the first 50 minutes of the show. Some Jimmy Kimmel here... a highlight reel there... the numbers would have still been huge. Lucky for us, that's not what they did, at all. It was the biggest musical event the show has ever seen. Along with those big results, we saw performances from Leona Lewis, John Legend, Julianne Hough, and the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. If that wasn't enough, reigning champ Kristi Yamaguchi stopped by to dance. It made for a fun hour. The results, and a look at all of those performances, after the jump....

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Takes a Spin on the Ice (VIDEO)

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who will be co-hosting with Kurt Browning a new ABC ice skating competition series, 'Thin Ice,' on Friday nights, decided she needed to get some skating lessons from skating star Kristi Yamaguchi. So she devoted a segment on Friday's 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated) to finding out what it takes to be a professional ice skater. Though a little nervous, Hasselbeck did a fairly decent job; she may have slipped and slid but she never really plopped down hard or landed on her butt. She sure gave it her best shot ... and she had fun. What do you think? Watch the video after the jump....

'Battle of the Blades': I'm a Believer

A couple of weeks ago, I made a few minor complaints about 'Battle of the Blades.' I take it all back. Not only did the show address a few of my issues (getting more comments from the female competitors, booking judges from the world of figure skating, like Kristy Yamaguchi and Katarina Witt), but they invited me to come see the Sunday night finale. I do like to get invited places. But never has an invitation made me feel quite so lucky to do what I do for a living (namely make snide comments about people who are more talented and ambitious than I am). Walking up to Maple Leaf Gardens from the parking spot I found in another time zone, a huge line of people are waiting for the ticket that will become available when people like me fail to show....

'Dancing with the Stars' - 'Performance #6' Recap

(S10E12) It's the dreaded team challenge on 'Dancing with the Stars' and for once, both teams are dancing the same style: the cha-cha. I never understood why the team dances were totally different styles anyway. The images of Susan Lucci trying her best to cha-cha back in Season 7 flashed as Pamela started to struggle to remember her choreography, but both teams coped well with the producers whims. Tonight judge Carrie Ann Inaba considered Nicole to be the best celebrity dancer she's ever seen. Clearly she's been drinking the tainted water. I haven't seen a female contestant get close to the great dancing skills of Kristi Yamaguchi. Nicole continues to still be hard in dances that need a gentle nature though she made strides this week with her waltz....

Dancing With The Stars: Who will win?

Down at Dancing With The Stars HQ they are prepping the ballroom for finals week. Tomorrow night we'll know who is taking home the big mirror ball. But there's no fun in waiting for it to actually happen. We should just go ahead and crown a champion right now. Our pals over at AOL took a poll of bloggers that cover the show, and that one had Lance coming out on top. If I have learned anything in my time here at TV Squad though, it's that the TVS readers can pick a DWTS champion. Last season some 75% of you had Kristi Yamaguchi taking home the trophy. So, before we all get settled in to watch the drama unfold, let's take a poll. After the jump, I'll make my case for a winner, and open up the voting for the TV Squad champion. ...

2010 Winter Olympics Curling Schedule

If you've arrived to this blogpost with your curling iron in hand waiting for a chance at Olympic greatness with Kristy Yamaguchi's hair, you've come to a very wrong place. However, if you ever day dreamed about what it would be like take your grandfather's shuffleboard game on ice, then we've got exactly the schedule you're looking for. For those who don't know, curling involves sliding a large piece of polished granite on ice towards the house, where two sweepers help to guide the piece to it's intended target. May sound a lot like your last home improvement project but it is a bonafide Olympic sport which was re-introduced during the 1998 Nagano games alongside with Women's Ice Hockey. Check out when you can catch nations compete in Olympic curling after the jump....

Another football guy to Dance with the Stars

How would you like to watch this man do the mambo? Don't be stunned. It could happen. Professional athletes have done well on Dancing with the Stars. Kristi Yamaguchi, ice skating star; Apolo Anton Ohno, Olympic speed skater; Helio Castroneves, race-car driver. It's also true that pro football players have done very well. Former Dallas Cowboy great Emmitt Smith won in 2006, and Miami Dolphins' Jason Taylor came in second this year. Therefore, it's not surprising to hear that the producer of DWTS are courting another grid iron great, but this one? Warren Sapp, a recently retired defensive tackle, says that he's been invited to Dancing With the Stars and he's thinks he's going to do it. Warren says he's been asked, but I'll believe this when it's announced by ABC. I'm not saying he's lying, I just think something may have been lost in the translation....

'Dancing With the Stars' 2010 Lineup: DWTS Season 10 Cast Revealed

ABC has unveiled the official cast of 'Dancing With the Stars' season 10, which premieres Mon., Mar. 22 at 8PM. Among the famous faces headed to the ballroom are 'Baywatch' beauty Pamela Anderson, astronaut Buzz Aldrin (whom host Tom Bergeron referred to as the "original moonwalker") and -- wait for it -- reality star Kate Gosselin. Following in the footsteps of Kelly Monaco and Cameron Mathison, soap hunk Aiden Turner ('All My Children') will also show off his moves, as will Olympic superstar Evan Lysacek, who will look to become the next Gold medalist-turned-'Dancing' champion, a la Apolo Anton Ohno, Kristi Yamaguchi and Shawn Johnson. Rounding out the cast are Erin Andrews of ESPN, Shannen Doherty ('90210'), funnywoman Niecy Nash ('Reno 911!') singer Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls, astronaut Buzz Aldrin (whom host Tom Bergeron described as the "original moonwalker") and, in a surprise reveal, the 'Bachelor' himself, Jake Pavelka. ...

'DWTS' Backstage Q&A: Kirstie Alley, Chelsea Kane and Hines Ward Dish the Finals

Many times the winner of 'Dancing With the Stars' is predictable. Season 11's Jennifer Grey and Season 6's Kristi Yamaguchi were favored to win their respective seasons and, sure enough, both emerged as winners. But this season, it's been nearly impossible to predict who's going to win. Kirstie Alley trails both Chelsea Kane and Hines Ward (who are tied for first place) by a mere five points going into tonight's finale, but the former 'Cheers' actress has probably the biggest fan base of the three finalists. (Let's not forget that she played a Vulcan in fan favorite 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.') Ward is a crowd favorite and has sports fans everywhere rooting for him. Kane, a Disney star, is likely supported by younger viewers, who may be more savvy when it comes to voting on-line. The three finalists and their pro dance partners weighed in on their performances on last night's post-show press line, and AOL TV was on the scene to get their reactions....

Worst 'American Idol' Finalists Ever -- #12: Kristy Lee Cook

For the next 12 weeks, we're teaming with Vote for the Worst to name the 12 worst 'American Idol' finalists ever. Check back next week to see their pick for number 11. Name: Kristy Lee Cook Season: 7 Worst Performance: 'Eight Days a Week' Why We Loved to Hate Her: Kristy Lee Cook proved she was a little bit too country on the first night of the season 7 finals. The theme that night was songs from the Lennon-McCarthy songbook, and Kristy's selection was 'Eight Days a Week.' But instead of letting the song be like any normal person would, Kristy chose to "make it her own" by upping the tempo and adding a fiddle here and there. What resulted was a frantic mess of a performance, like the scene from 'Superstar,' in which Mary Katharine Gallagher's parents accidentally bump into the record player during their step-dancing competition. It was so fast and so all over the place that Kristy herself could barely keep up the pace. Viewers at home experienced a whiplash-like effect, and heck, even Paula...

AI OD: A farewell to Kristy Lee Cook

It's with mixed feelings that I cover the elimination of my second favorite Cook in the Top 12. Sure, she should have gone home weeks ago, and probably should have been sent packing from the stage seconds after she butchered "8 Days a Week" (we didn't need a vote to know that Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr dug graves, dropped caskets down and climbed into them so they could roll around with John and George over that one). And yet, she was getting better, wasn't she? In fact, she's probably the only contestant to have shown marked improvement throughout the season. Sure she still didn't have a shot in hell of actually making the Finals or winning, but I still found myself impressed and proud of her. In Kristy Lee Cook's exit interview, she said she was shocked to be sent packing, too. She thought she "at least had another week in" her. ...
