Malcolm returning to Sundays

At one point last year, I remember being surprised to hear that Malcolm in the Middle was still on television. I watched it when it first launched on FOX on Sunday nights and I loved it. But, then it disappeared to Friday nights and, quite frankly, I forgot all about it. Well, it turns out the show is still on the air and it's actually in the middle of its fifth season! Since FOX moved Malcolm to Fridays, its numbers have dwindled down to about 3.5 million viewers, giving it the unfortunate title of being the least-watched show on FOX. Malcolm arrives in its new time slot starting on January 29 at 7 pm EST. Let's hope the Sunday night slot will give Malcolm new life! I know I'll be watching....

FOX cancels That 70s Show, Malcolm

And before you say it, yes, both of these shows are still on the air. FOX announced today that both shows will end their runs in May. The final episode of 70s will be the show's 200th, while Malcolm in the Middle will reach 150 episodes when it ends. I never really watched That 70s Show, only catching an episode here and there, but Malcolm has been consistently funny over the years. ...

Monk: Mr. Monk Bumps His Head

Okay, this is actually the second episode of the season. The first episode guest starred Malcolm McDowell as an unscrupulous fashion guru. That episode was decent, save for a rather lackluster performance from McDowell. Let's move on....

Malcolm in the Middle: an appreciation

I haven't watched Malcolm in the Middle much the past few years. There's always something else on at the same time, but the one or two episodes I saw were pretty damn funny. Matthew Gilbert over at The Boston Globe has an appreciation of the series, which airs its series finale tonight. It's sorta spoilerish, so click at your own risk. Did you know that the last name of Malcolm's family is ... Wilkerson?!? Me either. I guess they've only said it once in the whole run of the series....

Jane Kaczmarek Joins 'Whitney,' Bobby Cannavale Checks in to 'Nurse Jackie'

Jane Kaczmarek knows a thing or two about playing an outspoken mom on sitcoms. She's taking that skill she honed on 'Malcolm in the Middle' to NBC's new series 'Whitney.' According to Deadline, Kaczmarek will replace Beverly D'Angelo as mom to Whitney Cummings' title character. The Emmy nominated actress will appear on a recurring basis. D'Angelo played the role in the pilot episode sent to media outlets, but the scenes will be reshot with Kaczmarek in the role. After 'Malcolm,' Kaczmarek moved to drama and appeared on TNT's 'Raising the Bar' as Judge Trudy Kessler. Earlier this summer she appeared in an episode of FX's 'Wilfred.'...

What to Watch: TV Picks for June 6-12

MONDAY, JUNE 6 'Bobby Fischer Against the World' (9PM ET, HBO) HBO kicks off its summer documentary series with a film that chronicles the brilliant rise of chess prodigy Bobby Fischer, who became a grandmaster as a teenager, battled Russia's Boris Spassky in a legendary 1972 match and, in his controversial later years, became paranoid and withdrawn. This documentary draws on interviews with chess legend Gary Kasparov, author Malcolm Gladwell, talk-show host Dick Cavett, Paul Marshall (Fischer's personal attorney), Harry Sneider (his trainer) and photographer Harry Benson, who had access to Fischer before and during the 1972 championship....

Family Matters meets The Young and the Restless ... casting wise

It's taken a while, but The Young and the Restless has finally filled a role that's been vacant for too long. No, David Hasselhoff is not coming back as Snapper Foster. The role of Malcolm Winters is returning and Darius McCrary's got the Y&R role. Malcolm, the dynamic younger brother of Neil Winters, has been missing in action for a while because the previous actor in the part, Shemar Moore, has become a star in primetime. The Winters family is an important element in the Y&R canvas and they've missed Malcolm. Shemar was asked to come back, but with his success on Criminal Minds, there simply wasn't time in his schedule for both shows. Truth be told, there probably wasn't enough money to compel him to work that hard. So,while the fans might have liked Shemar back, they'll have to get used to a new face instead....

Teen 'Malcolm' star buys Simpson-Lachey pad

When you're 19 years old and you can afford to blow $3.75 million on a house - the house Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey lived in, and where the gloriousness that was The Newlyweds was filmed - life must feel pretty sweet.  Justin Berfield, who plays the bullying middle son on Malcolm in the Middle, bought the Simpson-Lachey house for an undisclosed sum. The house was listed for $3.75 million. I remember seeing Frankie Muniz, who plays Malcolm, on The Tonight Show several years ago, when he was 15 - he was talking to Jay Leno about his car collection, and Leno (along with me and all the other hard-working schmucks out there) was marveling that this kid who couldn't even drive yet was collecting these very spendy cars. Now another Malcolm kid buys a mansion. Geez, I guess I should've pursued that whole "land a part in a popular sitcom" path when I was a kid....

This is a charity auction, and proceeds from the That '70s Show stuff will go to The Young Storytellers Foundation while money made off props from Malcolm in the Middle will go to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Isaiah Washington says he's powerful, great, and that he loves himself

There probably comes a time in every controversy where the person involved should just...stop...talking. Fired Grey's Anatomy star Isaiah Washington is now comparing himself to Malcolm X and Paul Robeson. He isn't happy about getting canned from the show after he apologized, went to "rehab" and did everything the network asked him to do, and now he wonders if it's because of who he is and not what he did. ...

Nathan Fillion Reprises His 'Firefly' Role on 'Castle' ... Sort of (Video)

In a sly nod to his former 'Firefly' role, Nathan Fillion of 'Castle' dusts off his trademark long brown coat and appears in a costume eerily similar to that of space cowboy Malcolm Reynolds. Filmed as part of 'Castle's' Halloween episode, this reference to Joss Whedon's beloved sci-fi series should hold fans over while they keep their fingers crossed for another 'Firefly' reunion. Watch the video from TV's Top 5! after the jump....

Stephen Colbert is one of the Faces of America

PBS has a new documentary series debuting on February 10 titled Faces of America. Henry Louis Gates Jr. (he of the famous "beer summit" at the White House last year) interviews many celebrities about their family history, including Stephen Colbert, Eva Longoria Parker, Malcolm Gladwell, and Mario Batali. Here are three clips where Colbert (hard T) talks about his family. ...

'Sons of Tucson' - 'Pilot' Recap

(S01E01) "All right, boys. Let's play house." - Ron to the Gunderson boys It's hard to dislike 'Sons of Tucson,' and believe me, I've tried. It stands on Fox's Sunday comedy pedestal as a mix of borrowed plots and styles. It's got the attitude of 'Malcolm in the Middle,' the plot of 'Arrested Development' and the dramatic tragedy of 'Breaking Bad.' But, hey, if you're going to borrow, borrow from the best....
