Fox launches a campaign to 'Save The O.C.'

It's no secret that The O.C. is in trouble. It consistently ranks #4 up against tough competition on Thursday nights and it lost its star, Mischa Barton, at the end of last season. Now, Fox has taken the unusual step of launching its own campaign to save The O.C. from cancellation. There's a petition, or 'loyalty oath' on Fox's website. It doesn't directly say that The O.C. is in danger of cancelation, but it does say "not enough people out there have come back to Newport this season" and "good shows deserve to be watched." It asks visitors to sign a 'loyalty oath' that they will ignore all interruptions and watch The O.C. on Thursdays at nine. The whole thing is done a little tongue-in-cheek, but only a little. So far there are more than 71,000 'signatures' but that's probably not nearly enough to 'Save The O.C.', if it really does need saving. [Via PopCandy]...

Press Kits Unwrapped: The O.C.

The O.C. is one of those shows that I did watch at one point, but the show quickly changed into something I was embarrassed to admit I ever watched at all. Like Beverly Hills 90210 or Melrose Place. I caught the first season of The O.C., but I just couldn't stomach any more of it. That's why it pains me that Fox sent me some O.C. swag (or should I say "siag") that I can't give away, and that I'd only fully appreciate if I were a 16 year-old fan of the show. And a girl....

The O.C. will be online ahead of premiere date

The season premiere of The O.C. will debut online one week before its premiere date on Fox. The entire episode will be available for early viewing on MySpace and MyFoxLocal websites in 24 owned and operated television markets beginning this Thursday. It premieres on the network on Thursday, November 2nd. The second episode will also debut online before it airs on the Fox network. The O.C. is the latest in a long line of Fox shows that debuted online this season, including Prison Break, Justice, Vanished, 'Til Death, Bones, Happy Hour and The Loop. Of all those, The O.C. probably has the most to gain from early internet exposure. So far, Fox has only ordered half a season and, in its new 9 o'clock time slot, The O.C. is going up against heavy-hitters Grey's Anatomy and CSI. Even Howie Mandel looks like a threat at this point....

FOX gives OC fans a double dose this week

Following last week's mediocre ratings for the season premiere of The OC, Fox has already started to shuffle around the veteran drama. For this week only, FOX will air two new episodes of the show on Wednesday and Thursday night in the 9PM time-slot. One would expect the show to do poorly again on both nights. Wednesday it'll be up against Criminal Minds and Lost and on Thursday the show will deal with the same one-two punch that killed it last week: CSI and Grey's Anatomy. However, this could signal a complete change for the show. If it does halfway decent on Wednesday night, I would expect FOX to shift The OC there permanently. Remember, after this week, Lost goes on hiatus until February and it's getting replaced by the Taye Diggs drama Daybreak. That would be the smart move because keeping it stacked with Grey's Anatomy is a killer. Grey's grabs The OC's demographic easily and as much as I love The OC, Grey's is far better....

Gossip Girl casting news: Is this The O.C. East?

I was really bitter towards CW for canceling Veronica Mars, so I was planning on not watching Gossip Girl out of spite. However, as a fan of (at least the first few seasons) of The O.C., the idea of another Josh Schwartz show intrigued me. Okay, that, and the fact that I loved Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (shut up), and the realization that my one-woman boycott wasn't going to bring VM back, all led me to the show. When I tuned in, I really thought it would be The O.C. East, but Schwartz and the rest of the writers did a good job of making it its own show, I'm sure in no small part due to the fact that they had a series of books to work with. In fact, last night's 90210 premiere reminded me more of The O.C. than Gossip Girl ever has. So when I read that an O.C. alum was making her way to the Upper East Side, I wasn't exactly thrilled. Casting spoilers ahead....

Big Brother 6: The Final Four

An eviction occurred. I will save all that nitty gritty for after the jump, and forgive me if I'm a bit off my usual game on this post: I'm trying to type this up as I watch the episode of The O.C. that I recorded....

The O.C. moves to later timeslot

Perhaps it's a move that will open up the 8 o'clock hour for American Idol during late February and early March, since FOX is airing the results shows for the semi-finals on Thursday nights. FOX is moving The O.C. to the 9 o'clock hour, from the 8 o'clock slot its held since the first season. That time slot is now open, thanks to the cancellation of Reunion. The move happens on January 12, when new episodes of The O.C. return. FOX's announcement also gives a hint of what's to come in the second half of this season on The O.C. Ryan, Summer, and Seth launch a plan to get Marissa back into Harbor in time for graduation. One of the upcoming episodes, called "The Safe Harbor", is a tribute to an episode of Beverly Hills 90210 where the gang fought to get Donna to graduate. Plus, there's that whole college thing that still needs to be figured out. Where will they all go so we can continue to watch The O.C.? Sliding into The O.C.'s old time slot are back-to-back episodes of That 70s Show. At least, until...

Mischa Barton vacant in new photo shoot

The O.C. star Mischa Barton is the new spokesmodel for BeBe clothing line and the photos of her are downright mannequin-like. Dead, even. Her eyes look completely vacant in every photo and it's totally freaking me out. [Via Pop Candy]...

Quick! Check out the Aquaman trailer!

The CW said "no" to the new Aquaman show, but go here to take a look at the trailer (and hurry before the network takes it down!) I don't think it looks too bad. Sort of like The O.C. meets Smallville. [via TV Tattle]...

FOX won't commit to a full season of The O.C.

Facing some intimidating competition this fall, FOX has only ordered up 16 episodes of season four of The O.C. The network moved the teen soap opera to the 9 pm Thursday slot. After all the upfronts were announced, it turns out The O.C. is now scheduled against ratings juggernauts CSI and Grey's Anatomy. This is dicey news for The O.C., which has averaged 25 episodes for its first three seasons. But, the show may have died anyway since the writers killed off the extremely unlikable Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton). Plus, who knows whether it will have any legs as the kids head off to college (most likely in the same town)? You know, I think the show got really dull this year. How many times can we see Ryan and Marissa break up? And how many times can we see Seth and Summer fight? I think three seasons is all The O.C. had in it....

Say goodbye to Oliver, but did you love or hate him?

The day is closer upon us. The end of The O.C. will come to our screens tomorrow night.. The originator and main reason why the development floodgates of Hollywood were opened to introduce us to programming such as Laguna Beach and other bad teen shows based on excess and other items of unimportance. Although there are many broken hearted O.C. fans amongst us, we aren't that upset to see a character like Oliver Trask off into oblivion. He was able to exude as much hate that a writer could place on a single character, and I am personally glad to see him go. ...

Best TV Pilots: Series Premieres That Made Our Jaws Drop

This week's 'V' debut episode on ABC has some dazzling moments, including a few that may shock and surprise even viewers with vivid memories of the original 1983 miniseries. But does it belong on the list of all-time great TV series premiere episodes? Compare and contrast with the list below, featuring 10 of our favorite TV pilot episodes of all time. 10. 'The O.C.'
