DESCRIPTION
Andrew Graham-Dixon hosts this three-part documentary series, which studies Germany and its culture by examining its art. Each episode focuses on different periods of time in German history: the Middle Ages and the Renaissance in the first episode, the 19th and early-20th centuries in the second, and the remainder of the 20th century in the third. Global and localized events that took place during these times shaped the way artists worked and how they portrayed the country, from the earliest paintings of the Northern Renaissance to the building projects used by Adolph Hitler in his propaganda war against modern art.
