Many couples who, for one reason or another, are unable to have babies of their own turn to adoption to become parents. Adoption is a long, emotional process that has one aspect that many people are unaware of: a waiting period, which is the focus of this docuseries. During this period, the birth mother has the option to take her child back from the prospective adoptive couple. Each episode of ``The Baby Wait'' follows a case from the perspective of both the birth mother and the adoptive couple, as they struggle with decisions throughout the emotional roller-coaster ride until finally one couple are able to call the baby theirs. The show comes from the executive producers behind MTV reality shows ``Teen Mom'' and ``16 and Pregnant.''
