Dennis Miller has Amnesia
When I first heard that Dennis Miller was going to host a game show, I thought to myself "yeah, I covered that already." But I didn't know that the show I had written about had already ended and this was a new game show he was going to host.
The previous one was Grand Slam, the GSN show that pitted former game show champs (like Ken Jennings) against each other. Looks like that show only lasted one season (hopefully I can catch the reruns), but Miller isn't through with game shows yet. He's going to host the new NBC show Amnesia, which will premiere on NBC in the 1 vs. 100 slot when that show ends its season.

What if Sam Kinison had hosted a game show?
There's a funny post by Ken Levine over at his blog. He talks about how it seems that the goal of standup comics now is to host a game show. Think about it. Howie Mandel, Bob Saget, Jeff Foxworthy, Drew Carey. They've all gone from having sitcoms and dramas and doing standup to hosting network game shows like Deal Or No Deal and Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader. Ken wants sitcoms to make a big comeback, so the talents of comics can truly be showcased and not put into that game show personality machine that either makes them annoying or (even worse) lame and bland. But what if Sam Kinison had hosted a game show? After the jump, Ken's very NSFW scene from a Kinison-hosted show.
Rosie heading to NBC?
OK, so none of us want Rosie O'Donnell to take over for Bob Barker as host of The Price Is Right, but what exactly is the next step for the former View host (besides going on tour with Cyndi Lauper and building a new arts center in NYC)?
FOX News is reporting that new NBC programming chief Ben Silverman wants Rosie on the network. And not just in a daytime capacity. He also wants her to host a prime time game show on the network. No word from Rosie yet.
Of course, this news comes from Roger Friedman, who seems to be wrong 84% of the time in the stories that he reports, at least about celebs. But if she does host a game show, Ben, can you make sure it's not in the same mold as Deal Or No Deal/Identity/1 vs. 100? Or maybe create a daytime game show for her? We need more game shows in the daytime, less Dr. Phil/Jerry/Maury.

What to Watch Feb. 19 - 25
Star Trek: Beyond the Final Frontier (Mon., 9PM ET, History)
Space ... it's still the final frontier. Watching this special celebrating 40 years of Star Trek, I'm struck by how forward-looking the show was. Sure, the uniforms were totally '60s and the plots were super cheesy, but the concepts were light years ahead of their time. Mr. Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy, narrates, with stars William Shatner, Patrick Stewart and Kate Mulgrew sharing insights into their various incarnations of Trek. Plus, see footage from last October's auction of Trek memorabilia.
American Idol (Tue., 8PM ET, Fox)
Is it just me or are this year's top 24 contestants almost completely unmemorable? Looking over their photos, I strained to recall each one. Actually, one did stand out -- the beatboxing guy, Blake. But can he sing? I think the judges were right in saying this season is more up for grabs than any since season one. This week, experience six hours of Idol overload, with the top 12 boys performing tonight, the girls taking their turn tomorrow and a two-hour results show Thursday. Phew!

What to Watch Fri., Jan. 19
Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy (9PM, Fox)The God Warrior is back! Yes, folks, Marguerite Perrin, who infamously melted down last season, returns for another trade. This is the woman who vomited (caused by the "dark side"), screamed that her host family was "ungodly" and declared the show and its money "tainted." Perrin later accepted the cash, of course, and spent it on gastric bypass surgery. Now, she's 94 pounds lighter, but still a warrior.

NBC wants another game show with many people
So it looks like 26 stunning models holding briefcases just
isn't enough people on the stage for NBC.The network -- who seems to have a hit with Deal Or No Deal, even though it seems to be on every day -- is bringing another game show from across the pond to the U.S. 1 vs. 100 is a hit in several other countries already. This show has one contestant sitting down in front of 100 people who ask him trivia questions. The longer he goes on and eliminates some of the 100, his money increases. He'll also, of course, be able to quit and take the money at any point (hmmm...sounds like DOND).
The prize if he makes it all the way? $3 million dollars, the biggest prize on a regular U.S. game show. But, wow, how long does one game take? Answering questions from 100 people?
