Matt Damon Heads to '30 Rock'

by Scott Harris, posted Mar 31st 2010 10:15AM
Matt DamonAs one of Hollywood's leading men, Matt Damon has become the definition of an international jet setter, traveling everywhere from France, to Tokyo to South Africa in the course of his work. Now he's about to land at his most prestigious destination yet: 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

Yes, that's right: According to Entertainment Weekly, Damon will be appearing on NBC's flagship comedy, '30 Rock.' Though details are still sketchy, it seems he will be appearing at the end of the season and, given his busy filming schedule, it's likely his role will be one and done rather than an ongoing part.

Fox Gives Reilly Three More Years

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 27th 2010 10:35AM
kevin_reilly_fox_TVLast spring, Fox TV did something pretty radical. It decided to air the first episode of a new fall series in May. That was a long lead time for a series, but Fox was confident in the new program. The show was called 'Glee' and the success of that preview coupled with the breakout status when it officially re-premiered in September made Fox's year.

And the guy who gets credit for that and now a new three-year extension is entertainment chief Kevin Reilly. Here's an executive who was dumped by NBC -- great move, Jeff Zucker -- and has done really well at Fox. It's not only 'Glee,' but that's the most flashy, current ratings and pop culture hit.

The Writers Get Naked on '30 Rock' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 26th 2010 1:02AM
30 Rock, the writers get nakedYou're at work and suddenly hear a news report that a toxic gas has overtaken your building. The reporter advises anyone left in the building to disrobe immediately, so, of course, you do.

If this happens to you, think twice about actually taking all your clothes off, especially if your boss is Jack Donaghy from '30 Rock' (Thu., 9:30PM ET on NBC). That's our little public service announcement for the day.

Tina Fey Does Tracy Morgan Impression on 'Letterman' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 25th 2010 4:11AM
Late Show With David Letterman, Tina Fey does Tracy MorganWe're with Tina Fey and David Letterman on this one. We've talked to Tracy Morgan before, and he does have his own brand of language going. But it just makes us love him more -- even if we have no idea what he's talking about.

It also gives Fey the perfect platform to do her impersonation of her '30 Rock' co-star, which she did with gusto on 'Late Show With David Letterman' (11:35PM ET on CBS). If you close your eyes, you could swear it's Morgan.

Al Roker Plans Jane Krakowski's Wedding on 'Today' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Mar 23rd 2010 12:30PM
After Jane Krakowski of '30 Rock' jokes about having her wedding live on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC), Al Roker enthusiastically latches onto the idea and tries to persuade her to do just that.

"We've never done a celebrity wedding! You could be our first!" Roker said loudly. "Just pick a date and then show up." Krakowski agrees, but her expression tells us she doesn't mean it.

Jack Gets a Porn Wake-Up Call on '30 Rock' (VIDEO)

30 Rock, Kabletown, PornWho knew that 91 percent of Comcast's Kabletown's profits comes from men ordering adult movies? You know, movies like 'Ass-atar,' 'The Lovely Boners,' 'The Hind Side' and 'Fresh-Ass: Based on the Novel Tush By Assfire.'

It's all a big lightbulb going off in Jack's head on '30 Rock' (Thu., 9:30PM ET on NBC). Or, as we should call him from now on, Jack "The Master Baiter" Donaghy.

What to Watch: March 18

'30 Rock' (9:30PM, NBC)
Has Liz Lemon really met her future husband? Despite finding out they had little in common in last week's episode, she and fellow dental surgery patient Wesley ('Alice in Wonderland' star Michael Sheen) continue to be drawn together in (fateful?) little ways, leading them both to wonder if they really are the "Future Husband" and "Future Wife" they proclaimed each other to be when they were heavily drugged post-surgery. Meanwhile, Jack continues to plot to nab the CEO position at Comcast, er, Kabletown, and Tracy has to put his EGOT quest on hold when his kids' former nanny writes a tell-all book and his reputation is trashed.

What to Watch March 15 - 21

Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town - Tuesday March 16, 9 pm, CBC

True story: When I was in high school, I was lucky enough to be invited on a date by the new guy at school. His dad worked with CBC and our date was to be a live taping of the original 'Kids in the Hall' sketch show. My date treated me to a large soda before the show and once seated, we discovered we were not allowed to get up again until taping concluded. Long story short: I peed my pants I laughed so hard. Needless to say, I didn't get a second date. Having the Kids back on TV has been a blast, and hopefully this final episode of 'Death Comes to Town' isn't the last time we'll see them reunited.

Liz Lemon Cops a Jamaican Accent on '30 Rock' (VIDEO)

30 Rock, Liz LemonIf you ever want to trick someone into going to the dentist, just cop a Jamaican accent and start talking the funky talk like Liz Lemon on '30 Rock' (Thu., 9:30PM ET on NBC).

Actually, if we ever got a phone call like that, we'd hang up and call the cops. Then again, maybe that's how things roll in New York City, and we're just not hip enough to know it.

Saturday Night Live, Digital Short, Zach Galifianakis 'Saturday Night Live' (Sat., 11:30PM ET on NBC) has been a bit lackluster lately, but Zach Galifianakis managed to bring some funny back into the show as host this week. In fact, he did that just by showing up.

In the digital short, Galifianakis showed up on various TV shows like 'Law & Order,' '30 Rock,' and 'The Dr. Oz Show.' He's probably been on a lot of others and we just haven't noticed him.

NBC Renews '30 Rock,' 'Community,' 'The Office'

by Andrew Scott, posted Mar 5th 2010 5:57PM
30 RockNBC's Thursday-night comedy lineup will return for another season.

According to Variety, the network has just ordered new seasons of 'Community,' '30 Rock' and 'The Office'; the night's fourth comedy, 'Parks and Recreation,' was renewed in January.

In recent seasons, NBC has struggled to find a larger audience for its comedy bloc; this season, '30 Rock' has averaged somewhere around 6 million viewers, despite having won the Best Comedy Series Emmy three years in a row. 'Community' and 'Parks and Recreation' perform to even lower numbers -- typically around 5 million.

Will Arnett Comedy Moves Forward at Fox

by Brad Trechak, posted Feb 22nd 2010 7:25PM
Will ArnettThe way-too-unappreciated Will Arnett is getting a few steps closer to starring in his own comedy on Fox. The 'Arrested Development' star has made notable appearances on shows like '30 Rock' and 'Parks and Recreation' (which stars his wife Amy Poehler), but has yet to have a show of his own show.

Imagine this: Fox greenlights the new show (which is about an obnoxious Beverly Hills man who falls for a woman that can't stand him) and puts it on prime-time ... opposite 'Parks and Recreation'. You have the making of a sitcom right there. It's "two shows within a show" about a husband and wife that star in two different sitcoms at the same time on two competing networks.

Arnett and Poehler have a son. Imagine the drama of the child only being able to watch one of his parents live on television. Okay, seriously, this is why DVRs were invented. Both shows are after his bedtime anyway.

WGA Awards Honor 'Mad Men,' '30 Rock' and others

by Allison Waldman, posted Feb 22nd 2010 1:00PM
writers_guild_award_trophyOn Saturday night, the Writers Guild of America revealed the big winners for 2010, honoring the best in TV, movies and other media, but for our purposes, let's just stick with television. And as such, we can say the they rounded up the usual suspects.

'Mad Men' was tops in Drama Series and '30 Rock' was tops in Comedy Series. There was something new honored, Best New Series was 'Modern Family,' but seeing how the category makes new a requirement, it's not that shocking that it won.

However, in the episodic categories, for individual shows, there were was variance. The pilot of 'Modern Family' won in a tie with '30 Rock' for the episode 'Apollo, Apollo.' And the two part episode of 'House' -- 'Broken, Part 1 and Part 2' -- overcame all the 'Mad Men' nominees to take the WGA prize.

Whoopi Goldberg: 'Alec Baldwin's Phone Call Was Misunderstood' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Feb 15th 2010 11:35PM
'The View' ladies discuss Alec BaldwinAlec Baldwin may be a fine actor (some say), but let's face it; he's got some issues. There was that scandal a few years ago when he called his daughter Ireland a "pig," and just a few days ago, he was rushed to a hospital. Rumor has it that he and 14-year-old Ireland had been arguing, and he said he was going to "take some pills and end this."

Well, you have to wonder about all this. Baldwin seems to be on top of the world professionally. He's still riding high on '30 Rock,' has a nice movie career going, and he's co-hosting the 2010 Oscars with Steve Martin.

Then again, you never know what goes on in a person's private life. He could be a total hot mess. The ladies of 'The View' (weekdays, 11AM ET on ABC) had a few things to say about it. Whoopi Goldberg believes the phone call was misunderstood.
