TV's Rising Black Actors: Young, Gifted and African-American
by Sandie Angulo Chen, posted Feb 16th 2010 1:30PM
February is Black History Month, and what better way to celebrate than to pay tribute to television's brightest young African-American actors. Most of you are already fans of critically acclaimed vets like Chandra Wilson ('Grey's Anatomy'), Anthony Anderson ('Law & Order') and Regina King ('Southland'), but there is a new wave of up-and-coming black stars ready to make their mark. Here are 12 of our favorites. Who are yours?
Another original joins the new 90210

The reunion never stops. Now, Joe E. Tata is reviving his role as Nat, the owner of the Peach Pit, for the new version of 90210. His character will be appearing in the pilot. It is uncertain whether the character will have a recurring role within the new series."The coin's in the air for me," Tata told The Associated Press. "I guess it comes under the heading of magic test: Let's see if the audience still remembers me."
He joins a reunion of Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, and possibly Shannon Doherty in the new series. Jason Priestley has yet to be confirmed.
At this rate, why even bother having new cast members? Aren't having all these original members back expensive enough as it is? I wish every relaunch of a series had so many original cast members involved. Actually, when I think of shows like Battlestar Galactica, maybe that's not such a good idea.
The Wire's Tristan Wilds lands 90210 role
by Erin Martell, posted May 7th 2008 11:40AM
It's a step up from Baltimore. Tristan Wilds, who played Michael on The Wire, is playing the male lead in the 90210 spinoff. Wilds will take on the role of Dixon, the adopted son of the Harry and Celia Mills. The Mills family is shaping up to be much more entertaining than the Walshes. Jessica Walter and Lori Loughlin have already been cast as the grandmother and mother, respectively. I can't wait to see Michael having family dinner with Lucille Bluth and Becky from Full House. In other 90210 casting news, Michael Steger is playing Navid, producer of the West Beverly High's TV news show. I'm not familiar with Steger, but I'm thrilled that Wilds is returning to TV.
Details emerge on 90210 spin-off
by Anna Johns, posted Mar 19th 2008 12:42PM
In case you don't already know, The CW is doing a contemporary update on Beverly Hills 90210 with Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars, Dawson's Creek) at the helm. This week, details were released on exactly what this spin-off is all about. And, let's just say that it already sounds like a lot of teen angst and drama. The new 90210 is centered around the Mills family, who moves to Beverly Hills from East St. Louis. The patriarch of the family is Harry, a Beverly Hills High alum who moves back to the zip code because his movie star mother has fallen off the wagon. He brings his wife, Celia (a former Olympic athlete) and two teen-age kids, Annie and Dixon, with him. The teens are the same age, 16, because Annie is a biological child and Dixon is adopted.
