'The Sing-Off' Finale: And the Winner Is... (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 21st 2010 12:27AM
'The Sing-Off' Finale: And the Winner Is...Well, it's that time already. It's the final countdown. After a mere two weeks, we've reached the finale of 'The Sing-Off' (Mon., 8PM ET on NBC). Heading into the finals, only four groups remained. All of them were battling it out for $100,000 and a recording contract. But who would make the cut?

First to be eliminated was Talk of the Town, led by 66-year-old Jerry Lawson, who has been singing a cappella for over forty years. The Backbeats -- the only group in the finals with any female singers -- were the next to go home.

This set up an all-male, all-Southern battle for grand prize. Two groups remained: Committed, from Huntsville, Alabama, and Street Corner Symphony, from Nashville, Tennessee.

And the winner of 'The Sing-Off' was ...

'Saturday Night Live' Delivers a Tribute to ... Having Sex, With Jessica Alba and Blake Lively (VIDEO)

'Saturday Night Live' Delivers a Tribute to ... Having Sex, With Jessica Alba and Blake LivelyHaving sex! Most people seem to enjoy it. But can you express your love of having sex in lyrical form? 'Saturday Night Live' can.

On the new episode (Sat., 11:30PM ET on NBC), Andy Samberg (and 'Lonely Island' co-star Jorma Taccone) delivered a serenade to something that didn't need serenading in the first place. After all, most people don't have to be won over to the idea of having sex. Still, Andy and Jorma tried it anyway.

They brought in a star-studded cast to help, including rapper Akon, as well as Jessica Alba and Blake Lively -- who played Andy and Jorma's completely-non-satisfied sexual partners. The song began well, as Andy bragged of his recent performance in the bedroom: "Have you ever had sex?" he sang. "I have/ It felt great. It felt so good/ When I did it with my penis." But things quickly went downhill from there ...

'The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show': New 'Angel' Chanel Iman Gets Her Wings (VIDEO)

'The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show': A New 'Angel' Gets Her WingsIn the annals of bad pick-up lines, one stands above the rest. "Heaven must be missing an angel, 'cause you're right here with me." This line wouldn't work on Chanel Iman, for two reasons. One, she's a supermodel, and no pick-up line would ever work on her. Two, she is now literally an "angel," thereby making the line redundant.

Chanal received her "wings" on 'The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show' (Tue., 10PM ET on CBS). This show is America's number one viewing choice -- for watching models strut around in skimpy lingerie. And the show may have some other purpose that we're not aware of ... could it be related to selling bras?

American Idol: Live Results Show #8

by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted Apr 11th 2007 11:23PM
Jennifer Lopez performs on American Idol(S06E29) They certainly did cram in a lot of stuff in tonight's episode, didn't they? Wow, my head is still spinning. As much as I complain about the hour-long results show giving us way too much unnecessary filler, I felt they did their best tonight to at least keep the show entertaining. And I appreciate that, even though it may have been a bit too much.

Besides, don't they know all we really want is the RESULTS. Enough with the tease. Let us have it! How many of you skipped the festivities, TiVo'd the thing, and then fast forwarded to the very end?

Me, I watched the whole thing. Of course, I had to. It's my job. But whether you watched it all, or zipped to the end, the results were the same. Someone went home tonight -- and it wasn't Sanjaya.

Next week, Gwen Stefani coaches Idol contestants

by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted Mar 23rd 2007 11:17AM
Gwen StefaniGwen Stefani will be coaching Idol's Top 10 finalists for next week's "pop-themed" performances. The Hollaback Girl will also sing "The Sweet Escape" with Akon on Wednesday's live results show.

A "pop-themed" week seems to be a fairly broad catergory, so it will be interesting to see what songs the contestants choose. Reportedly, they will be singing their "favorite songs from that genre." I wonder if this means they will sing pop tunes from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, or go with something more contemporary. As always, it is important that they select their songs wisely, and give memorable performances.

The Top 10 perform live on Tuesday, March 27 (8:00-9:07 PM ET). Please note that American Idol is extending the episode by seven minutes in order to squeeze in all of the performances. House will follow Idol in its entirety. Set your TIVOs accordingly.

Saturday Night Live: Annette Bening/Gwen Stefani and Akon

by Annie Wu, posted Dec 10th 2006 2:55PM
Bening and Stefani(S32E08) I must preface this post by saying that I know virtually nothing about Annette Bening. She is married to Warren Beatty, she was in American Beauty, and... that's about it. So, if this episode was packed with Bening film references and I failed to catch them, I apologize.

Bening had a really strong performance. All her characters were totally solid and natural (I mean, as natural as they could be). However, she had a really tough time with the cue cards. It wasn't like her eyes darted from side to side... she just full-on stared at the cue cards most of the time. That always annoys me a little bit about hosts, but perhaps it's just a personal annoyance and not particularly fair towards Bening. After all, it's not like something a film star should be used to, right?

The writing was very funny at some points, but the rest of the episode was only "okay". Hey, they can't all be winners.
