CBS exec: Three Rivers is cancelled - TCA Report

by Joel Keller, posted Jan 9th 2010 12:51PM
Three RiversHowdy from Pasadena! I'm here covering the Winter TCA tour, and the first bit of news has already come up. During her executive session, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler was asked by the throng of reporters here if the Alex O'Loughlin medical drama Three Rivers was cancelled. Her response?

"You know what? Yes."

She went on to say that she didn't want to beat around the bush on it; the show just took longer to develop than they hoped. She was heartened by the stories she heard from transplant patients who appreciated the show's message, but that wasn't enough to save the show.

In the reporter scrum after her press conference, Tassler told me that she didn't anticipate as many angry letters from O'Loughlin fans as she got after she cancelled Moonlight, but judging from some of the notes we got here, I doubt that.

Three Rivers making changes

by Allison Waldman, posted Jun 12th 2009 1:02PM
O'Loughlin in scrubsJust because CBS is changing where the new medical drama Three Rivers will be filmed, doesn't mean the show is in trouble. After all, a lot of shows are retooled once the pilot is filmed. However, they recently dumped the leading lady, Julia Ormond, too. To me this says that Three Rivers is shifting focus, and I don't mean by filming in a Pittsburgh hospital set that they're building in Los Angeles instead of the real thing in Pennsylvania.

It could well mean that CBS is thinking about making Three Rivers a star vehicle for Alex O'Loughlin. CBS has The Mentalist in mind for Three Rivers, with Alex becoming the next golden pin-up, just like Simon Baker. I mean, take a look at this publicity picture. That's a muscle shirt more than a surgical scrubs top. And don't get me wrong, Alex has the body to pull it off.

Moonlight fans can celebrate on Friday

by Debra McDuffee, posted Jan 20th 2009 5:05PM
Alex O'Laughlin as Mick St. John in MoonlightI didn't jump immediately on the Moonlight bandwagon. The pilot just didn't grab me, and there was still a bitter taste in my mouth from Buffy and Angel being canceled. We Whedon fans don't forgive easily.

Eventually, I couldn't take it anymore and I caught up on all the episodes and fell for Moonlight. I loved the unique lore, the back story with Coraline and her family was riveting and yeah, Jason Dohring in love as a vampire? Much more appealing than when he's in love with a little blonde super sleuth.

Well, you can now relive the tragically short Moonlight experience, courtesy of the Sci Fi Channel. Beginning this Friday night, they'll be showing an episode of Moonlight every Friday at 9:00, through the entire series.

As if that's not enough, the entire series of Moonlight has been released on DVD today. I'm just not sure Moonlight fans could ask for better news than being able to see the series run again. Well, they could ask, but they won't get it.
