Kevin Costner may direct/star in a new Western mini-series...or may not
by Jason Hughes, posted May 12th 2009 3:43PM
While Kevin Costner is executive producing a new A&E Western mini-series event, he's not as sure if he'll be directing any of it or even if he'll be appearing in it. It all depends on the script. So he's not sure if it'll be good enough to bother with beyond his current EP duties? Come on, Kevin. This is A&E. Remember their first, and only so far, mini-series The Andromeda Strain? Yeah, I actually watched it and it was horrible! Which means this one simply has to be better. Right? It can't be much worse. Truly. It can't.
McKellan and Caviezel captured for AMC's remake of The Prisoner
by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 30th 2008 9:20PM
I don't know how they keep doing it; AMC that is. Not only have they brought us stellar series (Mad Men) after stellar series (Breaking Bad), but now they've managed to snag two big-time Hollywood names to join the cast of their remake of one of the smartest shows in television history. What started as rumor, that even we at TV Squad had a hard time believing, is now fact. Both Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellan have been cast in AMC's remake of The Prisoner. Caviezel is set to fill Patrick McGoohan's shoes as the titular "Number Six," while McKellan will step into the role of "Number Two."AMC's The Prisoner is scheduled to be a six-part mini-series. It hasn't been made clear if those six parts are one hour, two or a combination of both, but either way the original wrapped up in 17 so there's no reason to think we can't get a satisfying tale in six installments. With casting of the two principals announced, it's actually safe to say now that this thing might really get made. AMC is cruising right along with their original programming, and after forty years, I think we're due a re-imagining of this classic series. And unlike the disastrous The Andromeda Strain at A&E, I have faith that AMC won't let me down ... don't let me down, AMC!

Straining to watch Andromeda
by Jason Hughes, posted May 29th 2008 11:26AM

Why didn't you warn me? I started this fun little adventure with the novel The Andromeda Strain back in college and enjoyed the book tremendously. If for nothing else, it was funny how much time and attention Michael Crichton spent on the "modern" technology and amazing computational advances. Of course, I read the book in the mid-'90s and he wrote it in the late '60s. It's even more hilariously dated now. You mean, 200 people can work at the same time on this mainframe computer? That's astounding!
Daniel Dae Kim Interview for 'Lost'
by Maggie Furlong, posted May 23rd 2008 6:00AM
"I actually don't read tabloids, but a lot of my friends do, so [if] there's something in there about me, I hear about it." 'Lost' fans know Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, but his newest challenge has nothing to do with the Others.
On A&E's mini-series 'The Andromeda Strain' (two-night event, May 26 and 27), he'll battle a deadly disease.
Kim talked to AOL TV exclusively about how much time he has left on the island and who would win in a showdown between his tough-guy co-stars Seagal, Norris, Willis and Sutherland.
Casting news for Andromeda Strain
by Adam Finley, posted Jul 14th 2007 12:40PM
Back in May I mentioned that A&E was developing Michael Crichton's book The Andromeda Strain into a miniseries. The network recently announced the cast, which includes Benjamin Bratt, Rick Schroder, Eric McCormack, Viola Davis, Christa Miller, Andre Braugher, Daniel Dae Kim, and Ted Whittall.
The Andromeda Strain, which was also made into a feature film in 1971, tells the story of a deadly plague brought back to Earth from space on a satellite that crashes in Utah. The virus kills off almost everyone in a small town except for an old man and an infant. Scientists are forced to race against time to stop the plague from spreading.
