Keith Olbermann Says Anthony Weiner Isn't the Only Politician With a Scandal (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jun 17th 2011 6:45AM
Keith OlbermannJon Stewart may have been unable to report on Anthony Weiner's resignation last night due to having the night off (bad timing!), but plenty of other commentators were willing to step up and give their opinions.

Among them was Keith Olbermann, who made some shocking assertions on 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC).

Talking about Weiner's spectacular fall from grace, Olbermann dished out the criticism pretty evenly. Democrats, he said, abandoned Weiner because they "don't support their own." Republicans, on the other hand, "love to be on the right side of a scandal like this because it doesn't happen that often."

So why the intense media coverage of the scandal? It's gathered international interest, with footage of Weiner's chaotic resignation press conference airing all over the world last night. Olbermann think it's because Weinergate is easy for reporters to understand: It's given them "something that they can actually understand: A penis."

After Jimmy Fallon referred to Weiner's last name as "comedy gold", Olbermann then disclosed that Speaker of the House John Boehner answers to a rather salacious nickname of his own.

Stephen Colbert Pokes Fun at Andrew Breitbart's Role in 'Weinergate' (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jun 10th 2011 9:17AM
'Weinergate'Andrew Breitbart was a guest of radio shock jocks Opie and Anthony earlier this week to talk about his reporting of disgraced Rep. Anthony Weiner's recent scandal.

However, as we saw on 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central) it all went horribly wrong for Breitbart.

In what's now known as "Weinergate," Breitbart showed the hosts an explicit picture of Rep. Weiner's genitalia on his phone and, much to his dismay, the hosts managed to get a photo of it, which they then Tweeted.

Breitbart's explanation that he didn't know there were cameras in the studio prompted an incredulous Stephen Colbert to show a video clip of Breitbart appearing on the radio show.

In mock outrage Colbert said "He was assured there would be no cameras. And look at this footage of him with Opie and Anthony. I don't see any cameras there. ... If there was a camera there I think we'd see it."

Barbara Walters Thinks X-Rated Anthony Weiner Photo is Flattering (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 9th 2011 3:10PM
Barbara Walters addresses the Anthony Weiner controversy on 'The View'Barbara Walters broke down her thoughts on the Anthony Weiner controversy Thursday on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC). She finds it hard to defend his actions, but doesn't think he should resign if his constituents still want him. And however offended she might be by the photos circulating that are allegedly Weiner, she admitted Thursday she found them somewhat impressive.

"What he has done is unfathomable," said Walters, "I think the pictures are disgusting, but I think he has hit rock bottom and this may be what he needed so that he changes his life. He has been a good and effective congressman." An ethics committee can investigate and chastise, she added, but he shouldn't step down.

Chelsea Handler Can't Read Anthony Weiner Sexts Without Laughing (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 9th 2011 5:32AM
'Chelsea Lately'RadarOnline.com made Rep. Anthony Weiner's life even more miserable when they released over 200 exchanges between him and a Las Vegas blackjack dealer named Lisa Weiss. Chelsea Handler got her hands on the transcripts of them and tried to read some of them on 'Chelsea Lately' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on E!).

The conversations were so juvenile and ridiculous, though, that Handler couldn't keep a straight face through hardly any of them, cracking up over and over again. "What's up baby?" followed by "Whoa, looks like I am?" That is pretty lame.

But her favorite bit came with something Weiner wrote to Weiss. As Handler read it, "He wrote, your 'p' still tight for me, and she wrote 'yeah'." Handler then looked up. "That is so stupid."

Jon Stewart Can't Believe People Use His Show to Set an Amorous Mood (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 9th 2011 5:18AM
Jon Stewart, 'The Daily Show'Thanks to this ongoing Weiner scandal, Jon Stewart might just make the radical decision to quit doing 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central). Now, before you get up in arms, he didn't say anything like that, but if his reaction to learning what it is that some of us are apparently doing during his show is any indication, the man is traumatized to say the least.

RadarOnline.com released hundreds of texts between Rep. Anthony Weiner and a woman from Las Vegas that were very sexual in nature. But one exchange in particular singled out the 'Daily Show/Colbert' hour on Comedy Central.

When the girl suggested they either watch the shows or "have mad, passionate sex," Weiner countered with a compromise.

Paris Hilton Doesn't Think Anthony Weiner's Twitter Photo Is 'Huge' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 8th 2011 5:54AM
Paris Hilton, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'Last time Paris Hilton was on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (Weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC), she tried to school him in her meanings for the words "hot" and "huge." He never got it.

Nevertheless, he decided to take it back there with her in light of the recent Twitter photo scandals involving Rep. Anthony Weiner. Hilton admitted to being marginally aware of it, but not so much that she recognized the infamous underwear picture.

"What is that?" she asked when Jimmy Kimmel set it up in front of her. The game was to have Hilton assess if each image was "hot" or "huge." Of this one, she responded, "Not huge."

Jon Stewart Injures Himself on 'Daily Show' Fake Press Conference (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 8th 2011 5:16AM
'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'A very funny bit got even funnier on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central) when reality invaded fiction. In a send-up of Rep. Anthony Weiner's press-conference about his Twitter photo scandal, Jon Stewart cut himself making a frozen cocktail drink.

Yes, it's a completely absurd scenario, but the result was a somewhat serious cut that certainly was bleeding well. Ever the professional -- or not willing to do it over again -- Stewart muscled through, chastising himself for not being harder on Weiner, and then ultimately resigned from 'The Daily Show.'

When John Oliver came out to announce he was taking over, even he had to acknowledge the injury. "That's a genuine problem," he admitted.

The Women of 'The View' React to the Anthony Weiner Scandal (VIDEO)

Whoopi Goldberg talks about Anthony Weiner on 'The View'Representative Anthony Weiner admitted Monday in a surreal press conference that he was responsible for Tweeting a lewd photo from his Twitter account, and also revealed copped to engaging in multiple improper online relationships while in office. The reaction of the ladies on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) Tuesday ranged from outrage to bewilderment.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that all taxpayers should speak out and demand that Weiner resign, although Barbara Walters noted that might better be left to his constituents in New York. Sherri Shepherd didn't like the fact that Weiner used his office's resources for his indiscretions.

Meredith Vieira Says Matt Lauer's 'Deal' Is Dried Up, Has Been on 'Today' Too Long (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 7th 2011 10:00AM
Meredith Vieira, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Meredith Vieira says good-bye to 'Today' this week, but before she left she went on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) to disparage her co-host Matt Lauer.

When David Letterman asked how long Lauer had been there, Vieira responded, "Too long, really. Too long. Talk about the 'deal' is dried up, you know?"

She may not have realized how disparaging she was being, though. Earlier in the night, Letterman had used the term "deal" in reference to Rep. Anthony Wiener's crotch.

"Matt's great," she tried to cover. "I adore Matt."

"I heard his 'deal' dried up," Letterman laughed. Vieira wasn't going to get out of this one too easily.

Kathie Lee and Hoda Joke About Anthony Weiner Twitter Controversy (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jun 2nd 2011 1:15PM
Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifrord on 'Today'Earlier this week, a controversy erupted around New York congressman Anthony Weiner and a photo sent from his Twitter account to a woman in Seattle. The photo was a close-up of a man's lower abdominal area (or "junk") in gray underwear. It has triggered an avalanche of puns and punditry, and this morning on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC), Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb took it as a prompt to talk about genitals in general.

Jon Stewart, a friend of Weiner's, offered his defense on 'The Daily Show,' saying he knows Weiner well enough to know that wasn't him in the photo. That caused Kotb to wonder who pays attention to what their genitals look like. "Men," said Gifford. "They've seen it from every angle and they just can't get enough."

Taking it one disturbing step further, Gifford said she wouldn't be able to pick her own genitals out of a lineup, and once more, she's not sure she's ever seen her own. We hope no one has her Twitter password.

Stephen Colbert Has Pun With Anthony Weiner Twitter Scandal (VIDEO)

Congressman Anthony Weiner, 'The Colbert Report'When a scandal breaks like the one surrounding Congressman Anthony Weiner and an alleged photo of his crotch in underwear, which was Tweeted to a young woman from his account, you can almost hear Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert giggling in anticipation of covering it.

The latter took to 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central) with more puns than we were ready for.

Everyone knows the news loves puns for headlines, but Colbert took it to a whole new level, using them to tell the story.

"It's my duty to keep you informed about the swelling controversy that has cast a lengthy shadow over New York Congressman Anthony Weiner, stretching the fabric of our national discourse and throbbing like a ... "
