Apolo Ohno Explains Pre-Race Yawning Ritual (VIDEO)
by Donald Deane, posted Mar 5th 2010 2:00PM
Fans of speed skating might have thought Apolo Ohno didn't get enough sleep during the 2010 Winter Olympics due to his incessant yawning before each race. But, in fact, this is a pre-race ritual and visualization technique in which the speed skater pictures himself as a lion, he said on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated). "Number one, it's a habit. Number two, it relaxes me," Ohno said. "I'm not tired at all. I have this visualization thing. I try to think I'm a lion when I'm on the ice. I notice lions yawn a lot."

Olympic Athletes on TV: Apolo Ohno, Michael Phelps and More
by Hulu Staff, posted Feb 17th 2010 5:30PM
The Winter Olympics in Vancouver are underway, and soon we'll see which athletes become this year's biggest stars. And once the games are over, many of them will inevitably make their way to television with cameo appearances and reality competitions. (Let's start our Lindsey Vonn on 'Dancing with the Stars' campaign now, everyone!) With that in mind, the Hulu team took a look back to find other Olympic heroes who have crossed over to TV over the years. Here are some of our favorites.
Seven people we'd like to see on Dancing With The Stars - VIDEO
by Eliot Glazer, posted Feb 9th 2009 9:11AM
Well, it's official. Yesterday, ABC announced their new line-up for the eighth season (!) of Dancing With The Stars. And, as usual, the names chosen range from weird to ... even weirder (really, David Alan Grier?). Not that we necessarily disagree with the producers' choices, but we'd like to take a moment to suggest seven potential choices of people we believe to be fully primed for a spot on the dance floor.Listen up, DWTS producers. Season nine is just around the corner, and Alan Alda is probably waiting by the phone. (...In our wildest dreams, that is.)
Project Runway: Meet the new designers
by Allison Waldman, posted Jul 14th 2008 3:23PM
So, hot on the heels of Entertainment Weekly suggesting that Bravo wasn't giving Project Runway -- the new, and last before Lifetime takes over -- season its due, Bravo rolled out a press release today with the names of all 16 designer/contestants, as well as the celebrity judges for Project Runway Season Five. On the celeb front, the show's landed Diane Von Furstenberg, Sandra Bernhard, Apolo Ohno, Brooke Shields, LL Cool J, RuPaul, Rachel Zoe, Cynthia Rowley and Francisco Costa. I can see potential fireworks from Sandra B and RuPaul. The rest -- eh. I mean, really, is Brooke going to be critical? And have you seen how Apolo dresses?
Dancing With The Stars: Season Finale
by Brett Love, posted May 23rd 2007 3:09AM

(S04E19) After ten weeks, nineteen episodes, and an uncountable number of teases about results coming after the break, it all came down to tonight. As we have come to expect from the finale, ABC pulled out all the stops, bringing back all of the contestants, the pros, and the past champions. Also expected, they allotted an hour more airtime than they really needed, which led to a night that was heavy with pre-taped packages.
Dancing With The Stars: Week 10
by Brett Love, posted May 22nd 2007 2:45AM
(S04E18) As Tom said, "Ten weeks, and it all comes down to this." We could argue about the order of the eliminations, who should have stayed longer (Shandi), and who hung around way too long (Billy Ray). But I think in the end, the right teams made it to the finals. There has been a lot of dancing over the previous nine weeks, and after all of it, these are the three teams that stood out above the rest. With only three teams left, and the big disco ball on the line, each team has three performances to do this week. One is held off for the results show, but tonight we got to see each of them in the Judge's Choice round, and the much anticipated Freestyle. Let's get to it.
Dancing With The Stars: Week 8 Results
by Brett Love, posted May 9th 2007 3:00AM
(S04E15) I thought that Mandee made a great comment on the post for last week's results show. She said, "You know, the Results show has been morphing into a terrific '60s style variety show, with comedy segments, guest musical performers, and, of course, lots of dancing. A slice of retro-cool, for the whole family, from grandma to pre-tweens." I completely agree with that. The results show has always had to fight the problem that they only have about two minutes of actual results for their 60 minute show. Right now, it's as good as it has ever been. It's always going to be behind the performance show, because the star's performances are what it's all about, but the producers deserve credit for how much work is going into the results show. Enough about that though, we have results to get to.
Oscar De La Hoya going to Dancing With The Stars?
by Brett Love, posted May 8th 2007 4:04PM
We are still a couple weeks away from the big finale of Dancing With The Stars (I'm betting on Joey vs. Apolo) but rumors about the next cast of celebrities are already circulating. One of those being mentioned is boxer Oscar De La Hoya.According to the article at contactmusic.com, Oscar has said that once he retires from boxing he will do Dancing With The Stars. That would make him the third professional boxer to enter the competition, following Evander Holyfield and Laila Ali. I think it would be a great bit of casting for the show. Oscar has a huge following, and while I have never seen him do the foxtrot, I'm reasonably confident that he would be successful making the transition to dancer.
Apolo Ohno, you are a salesman
by Elizabeth Chan, posted Apr 10th 2007 1:41PM
Does anyone agree that Apolo Ohno was dressed like a salesman on Dancing With the Stars? It was appropriate attire for him, since he was trying to sell his waltz last night. There was at least one happy customer: Judge Carrie Ann Inaba gushed about Apolo's transition from sloppy to sophisticated. Am I the only one that didn't buy it? Where is this chemistry everyone was talking about? His partner Julianne is a charismatic dancer, but together, they reminded me more of the captain of the chess team being paired with the homecoming queen for a high school performance. In a more serious moment, the second season of Run's House premiered last night ...
