Ashley Tisdale Tells Rachael Ray About 'Hellcats' Stunts (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 19th 2011 5:40PM
Ashley Tisdale on 'Rachael Ray'Ashley Tisdale plays a cheerleader on CW's 'Hellcats,' which sometimes requires her to risk breaking a bone or two. On today's 'Rachael Ray' (weekdays, syndicated), Tisdale talked about doing some of her stunts, even if it scares both her and her producers.

Tisdale said she does have a double, but she tried to do as much as she can because she likes "to give it one hundred percent." One "Flying V" she did midseason did give her a bit of a fright. "It was pretty crazy," said Tisdale. "A base just through me up in the air, caught me by my feet, and then even pushed me up on one leg and I had my arms up. It was the scariest thing I've ever done."

Ray asked if Tisdale knew how many things she could break by doing that. Tisdale said she knew, and that her producers "were freaking out as well."

High School Musical
It was a mere five years ago, on Jan. 20, 2006, that 'High School Musical' hit the Disney Channel airwaves, making Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens the king and queen of the teen dream set, becoming the most successful movie in the cable network's history, nabbing a pair of Emmys and sparking TV and big-screen sequels, all along the way to becoming a true pop culture phenomenon.

You may have heard what "Zanessa" has been up to post-'HSM,' but, in honor of the original movie's anniversary, we're catching up with what the rest of the East High Wildcats have been doing ...

Secrets from the 'Hellcats' Set: Is Marti Hot for Teacher? Will Dan and Savannah Go the Distance?

by Laura Prudom, posted Oct 6th 2010 11:50AM
Aly Michalka and Robbie JonesIf 'Bring it On' is one of your favorite guilty pleasures, you get 'Fired Up' at the sight of pom-poms, or a cheerleading uniform is your default Halloween costume of choice, chances are you're already hooked on the CW's peppy freshman drama 'Hellcats,' a spirited (or should we say "spirit-fingered"?) look at the world of competitive college cheerleading.

If you're not already hooked, perhaps we can entice you to join the team with this perky preview. Two weeks ago, TV Squad was among a group of journalists invited to visit the set of the Vancouver-based show, and we returned with all sorts of intel on what's in store for our ridiculously attractive squad.

'Hellcats' Series Premiere - Marti Is Naked and Trapped, But Lewis Saves Her (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 9th 2010 9:20AM
'Hellcats' Series Premiere - Marti Is Naked and Trapped, But Lewis Saves HerThe new series 'Hellcats' (Wed., 9PM ET on CW) is set in the world of collegiate cheerleading. Think of it as being like 'Glee' (but without the singing) mixed with 'Bring It On' (except that it takes place in college). On the first episode, Marti Perkins (Alyson Michalka) arrives for her freshman year at Lancer College. Marti has a pre-law scholarship -- but then, through a series of misfortunes, she loses her student funding.

Now, Marti needs to get a new scholarship ... and the only way to do that is to join the "Hellcats" -- the school's competitive cheerleading squad. While this might be bad news for Marti, it's good news for us viewers. Because without this little plot twist, we'd be stuck watching Marti take four years worth of legal training courses. But instead, we get a show about sexy, sexy cheerleaders. Yay!

[Spoiler alert.]

'Hellcats' Premiere Review

by Maureen Ryan, posted Sep 8th 2010 12:00PM
What it is: An energetic CW show about energetic cheerleaders.

When it airs:
'Hellcats' debuts 9PM ET Wednesday on the CW.

'Hellcats' is exactly what you'd expect a CW show about cheerleaders to be. That is not necessarily a bad thing.

Pilot Watch: 'Hellcats'

by Joel Keller, posted Aug 19th 2010 2:03PM
Ashley Tisdale and Aly Michalka in 'Hellcats' on CWIn our continuing effort to get you ready for the upcoming fall season, we're previewing pilots that were sent to critics earlier this summer.

Keep in mind that in each case, our opinions are based on a pilot that could be completely recast and reworked between now and the fall. Some of those changes have already been announced.

Show: 'Hellcats'
Network: CW
Timeslot: Wednesdays, 9PM ET (Premieres September 8)

The lowdown: Marti Perkins (Alyson Michalka) just found out that her scholarship to study pre-law at Lancer University in Memphis was revoked. Her barmaid mother Wanda (Gail O'Grady) was supposed to let her know so she had a chance to get it back, but as Marti has experienced through a lifetime of taking care of her irresponsible mother, her mother ended up dropping the ball. So, in a desperate move to earn another scholarship and stay in school, she tries out for an opening on the college's competitive cheeleading team, known as the Hellcats. It's definitely not her style, but she has the moves to pique the interest of both coach Vanessa Lodge (Sharon Leal) and captain Savannah (Ashley Tisdale), who takes Marti under her very meticulous wing. Marti takes the place of Alex (Heather Hemmens), who doesn't like the new team member one bit, even if her abilities could take them to the national championship.

Spring TV: Which Pilots Will Crash and Burn?

by Stephanie Earp, posted Mar 23rd 2010 5:32PM

There are two groups of people who get really excited about pilot season: L.A. actors hoping for a break and television writers. Being a member of the latter category, I admit to a tingly feeling creeping over me as word of the shows in development at all the big networks are starting to leak out. While most people are attributing feelings of renewal to the change in the weather, I'm happily anticipating what J.J. Abrams has in store for us this fall.

Ashley TisdaleAshley Tisdale is making her way from the Disney Channel to regular broadcast TV for the CW's new pilot, 'Hellcats' (not to be confused with 'High School Musical's' Wildcats).

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the singer-actress joins Aly Michalka in the Tom Welling-produced series, about a competitive college cheerleading team. Michalka plays Marti, a sort-of bad girl who joins the Hellcats after budget cuts and her mother's irresponsibility cause her to lose her scholarship.

Sundays with Seth: Revenge, Redemption and Roger's "Precious"

by Jason Hughes, posted Feb 22nd 2010 2:00AM
'The Cleveland Show' - 'The Curious Case of Cleveland Jr. Working at the Stool'
This week managed to be both boring and wonderful at the same time. In fact, 'American Dad' and 'The Cleveland Show' paralleled one another in this sense. Both had very strong lead stories featuring their respective fathers and sons, and both had rather dull back-up installments featuring the daughters.

What is it with Seth MacFarlane and female daughters? The fact that he can't find anything to do with Meg has become a running joke on 'Family Guy,' but he has the same problems with Hayley and Roberta.

Did you notice anything different about Roberta this week? Did she sound a little more like Sarah Chalke than Lecy Goranson (that's a 'Roseanne' joke for those paying attention)? That's because Nia Long, who's been the voice of Roberta thus far was replaced this episode by Reagan Gomez-Preston. I know, it's almost as shocking as when Darrin went from one Dick to another on 'Bewitched.'

America's Got Talent: Results show three

America's Got Talent(S04E18) "The most electrifying show yet!" - Nick, about last night's performance show

Nick is right. Last night was electrifying, even if a few acts got X'd. It was one of the best show's we've had so far this season.

As I noted in my review of the performance episode, I expected Jeffrey Ou to lose some votes because viewers weren't able to hear him play the piano in the second part of his acts. But a few of our site visitors said they voted for him because he wasn't given a fair chance.

Will Jeffrey get another chance by moving on to the Top 20? Results coming up!
