LL Cool J took home the 'I Am Hip-Hop Icon Award' at the 2011 'BET Hip Hop Awards' (Tue., 8PM ET on BET), and he brought some rhymes with him to read in lieu of a traditional acceptance speech.

He proved himself an impressive wordsmith still, with a social conscience, touching several members of the audience with his politically charged words.

"Millionaires crying about raising taxes on the elite," he read. "They won't feed us as they'd rather defeat us like an aborted fetus, but the greatest feat is to get back up on your feet."

A host of A-list celebrities turned out for the '2011 Teen Choice Awards' in Hollywood last night including Sean Kingston, who made his first red-carpet appearance since his jet ski accident in May.

The ceremony, which was hosted by 'Big Bang Theory' star Kaley Cuoco, aired live on Fox, and country star Taylor Swift was the big winner of the night.

She took home six surfboard trophies including the Ultimate Choice Award for her "extraordinary contributions to the entertainment industry."

So who won what in the the TV categories? See the full list of TV winners after the jump.

The Television Critics Association gave out its annual TCA Awards Saturday night, and 'Mad Men,' 'Game of Thrones' and 'Modern Family' were among the winners.

'Friday Night Lights' was named Program of the Year, and several of the show's actors stood on the stage with executive producer Jason Katims as he gave a heartfelt speech about how hard it was to let the show go after five seasons.

'Game of Thrones' was named Outstanding New Program, 'Mad Men' won as Outstanding Drama and for the second year in a row, 'Modern Family' won as Outstanding Comedy.

It's been announced that 'The Big Bang Theory' star Kaley Cuoco is to host the 2011 Teen Choice Awards on August 7.

Cuoco confirmed the news on Twitter: "Well, it's official. Yours truly is hosting the Teen Choice Awards. Woop woop!"

OneRepublic and Selena Gomez & the Scene will perform at the 13th annual ceremony, which will be aired live on Fox.

Teen Choice 2011 also unveiled the nominees for its new and final voting category of the summer: "Choice Vampire."

Every year on Emmy nomination day, as soon as the list of nominees is released, I peruse the roster and start writing. I don't read any reactions or stories until I've read the full list myself, so what follows are my first-blush reactions to seeing the list for the first time.

As I said in my Emmy prediction piece, every year there are omissions that rankle me, but this year, I have to say, the number of nice surprises was large. So as I sit here, still not having had coffee yet, I find myself unable to be too mad at the Emmys. I'm actually pretty pleased about a few things. Is it Opposite Day? The Emmys are recognizing 'Parks and Recreation' and Louie C.K. in comedy categories and 'Friday Night Lights' in the best drama category -- things I hadn't predicted but I'm very happy about -- so maybe it is.

Without further ado, here are my Pre-Coffee Emmy Musings (which I may add to later in the day, post-coffee), followed by the Happy Dance List.

Ah, the human body. It can be so damned inconvenient at times. Like when you're name is being announced as a winner at 'The 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards' (Sun., 8PM ET on CBS).

That's what happened to Ben Bailey when he was temporarily missing in action after he and 'Cash Cab' took home the Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host.

It was Bailey's second win in a row, but the first that he almost missed entirely. He could have played it off completely if he'd wanted to as he had a great line ready when he finally did make it to the podium.

"Thank you very much," he said taking the Emmy. "Well everybody, I couldn't get a cab. What can I say?"

The winners of the George Foster Peabody awards were announced this morning, and among the entertainment winners are 'Justified,' 'Men of a Certain Age,' 'Sherlock,' 'Temple Grandin' and 'The Good Wife.'

In the television news and documentary categories, Spike Lee's 'If God Is Willing and Da Creek Don't Rise,' Frontline's 'The Wounded Platoon,' CNN's Gulf oil spill coverage and ESPN's '30 for 30' series were among the recipients of awards.

The Peabody Awards honor excellence in all electronic media, and in the program's 70th year, a record number of awards were handed out -- 39 in total. That's three more than the Peabodys have ever awarded in the past. A full list of winners is below.

The 2011 Oscar nominees announcement brought the welcome news that actor James Franco earned a nod for his performance in the movie '127 Hours.' The multi-talented star is also likely to receive a Daytime Emmy this year for appearing as the demented artist/killer Franco on 'General Hospital.'

Which led us to wonder: Could Franco become first person to win the DEGOT -- Daytime Emmy, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony?

EGOT is a term coined 'Miami Vice's' Philip Michael Thomas; currently, 12 people hold an EGOT. And Whoopi Goldberg's "E" is actually a Daytime Emmy.

Before we get to the dishing and rehashing, go ahead, make fun of the Golden Globes. Everybody does.

The show's host this year, Ricky Gervais, certainly had a gleeful time poking fun at the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which votes on the Globes. The HFPA members didn't just nominate 'The Tourist' because they wanted to hang out with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, Gervais said at the start of the ceremony, "they also accepted bribes," Gervais joked. (I think that was a joke. Maybe.)

Even one of the evening's winners, Robert DeNiro, mocked the HFPA in a halting acceptance speech that contained less wit than he thought it did.

"The important thing is that we are all in this together -- the filmmakers who make the movies and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association members who in turn pose for pictures with the movie stars," said DeNiro, who won a Cecil B. DeMille award for career achievement. "I'm sorry more members of the Hollywood Foreign Press aren't with us tonight but many of them were deported right before the show."

Zing! Not really!

The pop cultural juggernaut that is 'Glee' continued its quest for world domination, picking up three awards at Sunday night's 68th Annual Golden Globes -- for Best Comedy/Musical, Best Supporting Actress (Jane Lynch) and Best Supporting Actor (Chris Colfer).

After creator Ryan Murphy thanked various Fox executives, 'Glee' writer Ian Brennan added, "Thank you to public schoolteachers. You don't get paid like it, but you're doing the most important work in America."

There are many enduring mysteries that surround the Golden Globes, starting with "What is the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and why won't this mysterious organization make its membership list public?"

Alas, the organization's doings and membership are shrouded in secrecy, and not everyone takes the group seriously, to put it mildly. Thanks to WikiLeaks, we now know more about how high-level diplomacy really works than we do about how and why Globes voters make the choices they make.

All we really know about the Globes is that the group's annual telecast is typically one of the more lively stops on the awards circuit. There aren't that many awards during the program, so it's a relatively zippy affair (unlike the ponderous Emmys). At the Globes, the stars all sit at big tables and, judging by some of the acceptance speeches, the famous people don't mind having a drink or three.

And that's fine with me, but the Globes nomination roster sometimes leaves me in need of alcoholic sustenance. Then again, the doings of most awards-giving groups usually leave me stumped for one reason or another. In fairness, the Globes have usually been more quick to recognize excellent new shows than the sclerotic Academy that gives out the Emmys, but this year's list of Globes nominees induced more head-scratching than usual.

Here's my baker's dozen of Globes Questions, in no particular order:

The usual suspects dominated the 2011 Golden Globe nominations Tuesday morning. Last year's comedy winner, 'Glee,' as well as award favorites 'Modern Family' and 'The Good Wife' earned multiple nods across the television categories.

Many previous nominees and winners -- including 'Mad Men,' Michael C. Hall and Julianna Margulies -- again received accolades from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

But there were surprises and newcomers, as well, such as 'The Big Bang Theory' breaking into the best comedy category and nominations for Piper Perabo for 'Covert Affairs' and Scott Caan for 'Hawaii Five-0.' Two new shows, HBO's 'Boardwalk Empire' and AMC's 'The Walking Dead' broke into the best drama ranks, and actress Katey Sagal received her first nomination (for 'Sons of Anarchy') since 1994.

'The Walking Dead,' 'Boardwalk Empire' and 'Glee' are among the TV series honored by the American Film Insitute (AFI) yesterday.

According to the AFI, honorees are selected "based on works which best advance the art of the moving image; enhance the rich cultural heritage of America's art form; inspire audiences and artists alike; and/or make a mark on American society."

Judges for the TV category included producer/writer Steven Bochco, actress Jennifer Love Hewitt and our very own Maureen Ryan.

Unlike other awards-givers, the AFI does not rank its selections, or pick one show as "the best." Cable dramas made a big impression this year, including AMC's 'Mad Men,' which made the list for the fourth year running, but network comedies were also strongly represented.

America's love of teen shows and TV doctors (hello, Sandra Oh!) continues with 'Glee' and 'Grey's Anatomy' topping the nominations of the 37th annual People's Choice Awards.

'Grey's Anatomy' picked up quite a few nominations, specifically in the favorite TV doctor category. 'Glee' grabbed nominations in the comedy acting category and guest stars. 'Gossip Girl' also leads TV veterans with several noms in the drama category.

The biggest surprise? Fox's struggling 'Running Wilde' picked up a nomination in the new comedy category ... but then again, so did every new comedy this season.

Watch out Emmys, the Paley Center is gunning for you.

According to the New York Post, the Paley Center for Media has been quietly working on a rival television awards ceremony. A committee headed by Steve Mosko, president of Sony Pictures TV, Tony Vinciquerra, CEO of Fox Networks Group, and Dick Lippin, chairman of Lippin Group has been working toward a 2012 launch date.

The ceremony would take place in New York during the annual May upfront presentations.

The committee is reportedly at work picking the categories and voting process, hoping to win some favor by addressing the frustrations of current Emmy voters.

To make the awards ceremony more accessible, the committee may allow the general public to vote in some categories. Think a People's Choice/Emmy hybrid with the idea that popular shows get more nods -- more 'NCIS,' less 'Mad Men.'
