'Mad Men' to Become Ken and Barbie Dolls
If you can't wait for season four of 'Mad Men' when it debuts later this year, Mattel can help you play 'Mad Men' and create your own stories. According to the New York Times, the toy company is creating versions of Barbie and Ken based on four 'Mad Men' characters - Don Draper, his wife Betty, Roger Sterling and Joan Harris. If you want to play out Draper's past, you can get a full-sized G.I. Joes and swap clothes. Or you can get a bunch of regular Barbies and have an office party and make them dance to the 'Mad Men' soundtrack.
TV franchises offer up last minute Christmas gift ideas
NORAD is already tracking Santa Claus and his airborne reindeer team as it heads south from the North Pole and ignores boring Canada to give delightful Christmas presents to all the good American boys and girls. Fortunately, the U.S. Air Force apologized for that anti-aircraft missile that almost nicked Dasher. They sent a fruit basket and everything. The point is that you don't have much time to snag holiday toys for your TV fan friends and those few kids you actually like. Fortunately, there still some popular toys out there that can serve multiple gift giving purposes.
The I Love Lucy Barbie from Mattel (right) sells for $45, so it might be more appropriate for an adult toy collector (an adult who collects TV-related toys, I mean). But, a Barbie is a Barbie, and few girls would turn one down -- even if it features Lucy Ricardo auditioning for a part in Ricky's show at the Copa.
Mad Men: Guy Walks Into An Advertising Agency

(S03E06) What do disappointment, opportunities and snakes have in common? They're all themes in this episode of Mad Men. The British, in the form of Powell, Ford and Mackendrick came to Sterling Cooper for a visit, but what that visit meant was anybody's guess. The visit wrecking holiday plans for the staff -- no Independence Day for you, colonists -- was obvious irony and true nonetheless. And the Guy walking into the ad agency, well, it would be a hollow joke after this tragedy. More after the jump.
The Trek Barbie dolls are coming! The Trek Barbie dolls are coming!
Just in time to tax refund season -- because you can't use the money for things like gas, food and basic survival -- comes the newest Barbie releases from toy giant Mattel. They're the Star Trek Barbie dolls -- three dolls that represent Kirk, Spock and Uhura. Okay, that's neat. But, there's just one issue...
See, these dolls are not designed after the original Star Trek cast from the 1960s. These dolls are modeled after the stars that will play those iconic characters in the new and highly anticipated Star Trek prequel coming out in May. Each doll comes dressed in the Starfleet outfits that are familiar to fans of the original series and carries a phaser (Type II model) and a communicator.
The cost for the dolls...forty-four friggin bucks a piece! Don't worry, because you have until the end of April to save up before they are released to Wal-mart, walmart.com, and Barbiecollector.com. Get them while they last before someone sells them on eBay for triple the price.
Bernard Loomis dead at 82
Bernard Loomis, the former vice president of Mattel who writer David Owen dubbed as ""The Man Who Invented Saturday Morning" passed away on Friday of heart disease at the age of 82. Loomis was largely responsible for Saturday morning fare that was meant to not only entertain, but also sell products. He helped launch such toy lines such as Star Wars, Barbie, Care Bears, and Strawberry Shortcake through TV specials, cartoons, and commercials. Loomis also worked at Kenner (maker of Star Wars toys) and General Mills. He also helped develop an action figure based on the Six Million Dollar Man and also "develop strategy" for the popular Chatty Cathy doll while working for Mattel.Giving Glam: Project Runway Barbie
On last week's episode of Project
Runway, Nick Verreos won the Barbie competition, which meant that his winning design would be transformed
into a limited edition My Scene Barbie (cough, cough...rip-off Bratz doll). Well, Heidi hussled her little German
ass off, and got the doll ready for Festivus. Okay, not really. Pre-ordering for the doll is available on
the Project Runway website
for $24.95, but it won't be ready to ship-out until January 20th. So it's one of those gifts you'll have to wrap-up a
picture of and promise that it's "on its way."
**Note to my Mom- Under no circumstances, do I want this for Christmas, my birthday, or any other major gift-giving holiday.
