Billy Connolly as Doctor Who?
by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 21st 2010 9:33AM
An odd bit of 'Doctor Who' trivia surfaced this weekend, that comic legend Billy Connolly was nearly tapped to play the Eighth Doctor in the 1996 one-off TV movie. Paul McGann wound up with the role instead. Scottish paper the Daily Record reported that a 'Doctor Who' historian named Alex Westthorp learned that the BBC had him on a "short list" after seeing him opposite Dame Judi Dench in 'Mrs. Brown.' Apparently, no one at the BBC told Connolly. When TV Squad spoke with The Big Yin Tuesday, he said he had only heard that morning about the possibility he'd be tapped for the role. "That never reached as far as me," he said. "As a matter of fact, my manager told me that this morning. He read it in the newspaper and was amazed. It didn't get as far as him. These were just discussions at BBC I think."
Best X-Files trailer so far
by Anna Johns, posted Jun 6th 2008 7:01PM

This latest trailer for The X-Files movie, coming out July 25th, actually has some meat to it. The past teaser-trailers haven't shown much except some snow and a lot of flashes of black. In this trailer, we actually get to see some of Mulder and Scully's co-stars -- namely, Amanda Peet and Billy Connolly. Peet appears to be an FBI agent who is a bit of an outsider because she's a believer in the paranormal, which is why Mulder is brought on to the case. Connolly plays an unusual man, a psychic, who may or may not be nuts.
The Daily Show: May 10, 2006

A few days ago, Jon started by poking some fun at the Terre Haute, Indiana's weatherpeople because they were wickedly competitive, airing attack ads against rival stations' weather teams. Well, Terre Haute's locals caught the jokes (they have cable in Indiana?) and the general manager that helped to make the commercial said that The Daily Show "must have been pretty hard up for material... I didn't quite understand the point." Jon sobbingly apologized for making fun of their precious weatherpeople and proceeded to show a clip of him doing something more meaningful with his time (he went to a hospital to cheer up a sick little boy by showing him the attack ad... Unfortunately, the little boy -- who looked more like twenty than ten -- died from laughing too hard at the stupidity). What have you done, Terre Haute?!TV Squad Hot Topics
