TV stars joined screen legend Kirk Douglas and his wife Anne Wednesday to serve an early Thanksgiving Dinner to thousands of homeless people in Los Angeles. The 95 year-old Douglas -- who lived in poverty as a child -- hosted the event for the seventh year in a row on behalf of the Los Angeles Mission, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

The Douglases, who have supported the nonprofit for decades, were joined at the event by LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and celebrities including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kim Kardashian, Blair Underwood and Zoe Saldana.

Organizers told the AP they served an estimated 3,000 lbs of turkey, 700 lbs of mashed potatoes, 800 lbs of green beans, 80 gallons of gravy and 600 pies. "What goes into this meal? A lot of love," Chef Dave Thomas told CBS Local News.

Actors can work for years before they get their big break, going from project to project, floundering away on struggling sitcoms and concept-heavy dramas until their luck changes and -- blamo! -- they're on a successful show raking in six figures per episode.

Despite its not-so-hot ratings, 'The Event' has already landed a full-season order from NBC. But in an attempt to drum up more viewers, the network is planning a relaunch strategy for the show's post-holiday hiatus return.

According to Entertainment Weekly, NBC will air a one-hour clip show before 'The Event''s first January installment to get viewers up to speed on the drama's storyline.

"We will finish up with our first 13 [episodes] and then there will be a break, and then we'll come back with a one-hour compilation clip show of the first 13 so everybody can catch up with story," Bill Smitrovich, who plays Vice President Raymond Jarvis, said. "I hope that will spark another increase in the audience."

Following in the impressive footsteps of 'Lost' and 'Fringe', starting a series on an airplane isn't necessarily the most original way to begin a new television journey.

However, 'The Event' (Mon. 9PM ET, NBC) proves to be an entirely different show and establishes itself as a unique viewing experience within the first three episodes. Ratings are obviously a major factor, but there are four other essential ingredients that will determine the fate and future of 'The Event.'

The biggest question of the fall TV season: What is the event?

I have absolutely no idea, but that's why 'The Event' is so intriguing. Mixing elements of hit sci-fi shows like 'Lost' with the addictive serialized nature of a '24,' the new NBC series (premieres Mon., Sept. 20, 9PM ET) follows a number of intriguing characters on all sides of a mysterious, possibly supernatural occurrence.

The stars of the show -- including Jason Ritter, Laura Innes, Blair Underwood, Scott Patterson and Zeljko Ivanek -- can't say too much for fear of network snipers, but I tried to get as much out of them as I could. The result? Even more intrigue, I think -- are you excited to watch?

'The Event' deals with a young man -- Jason Ritter -- who's thrust into the middle of mystical game of espionage as he tries to find his missing girlfriend.

Most of the panel for the NBC series that's best described as part 'Lost' and part '24' was taken up by the screening of the show's pilot. Fans had only about 15 minutes for a moderator-conducted Q&A with the ensemble show's cast, which is headlined by Jason Ritter, Blair Underwood and Laura Innes.

But the good news is that If the crowd reaction was any indication, THIS is the must-see series of the fall. If you're still going through Jack Bauer and Jack Shephard withdrawal, trust us -- Ritter's Sean Walker is your new hero.

Each act break ended on a compelling cliffhanger, the biggest one was saved for the end of the show. Kudos to producers for informing viewers as to when a scene was set by starting each one off with "eight days ago" or "13 hours ago." It would be nice if 'Lost' had done that all shows with big casts and lots of flashbacks would do that.

Creator Nick Wauters explained that there are definitely elements of "mystery, sci-fi, thrillers, and a love story" to 'The Event.' "We wanted to create something that' has a little bit of something for everyone."

Blair Underwood has been elected the next President of the United States -- well, at least by NBC. According to reports, Underwood has joined the cast of 'The Event,' a new drama pilot about a conspiracy to assassinate the President, in which a regular man (Jason Ritter) finds himself caught in the middle. (S02E15) First of all, those stilettos Beckett had on were awesome. I'm not saying that so much as a girl crush, but as more of a 'Sex and the City' sort of style thing. Her mullet seems to have calmed down a little, and overall, I'm liking her style (though I'm still on the fence about her jacket pictured above). Girlfriends, what say you about the jacket?!

(S05E13) It's always nice to see that the men Christine falls for are as damaged as she is. Well, one of her suitors tonight is anyway. Things continue developing intimately between Christine and Max (Eric McCormack), until she gets a text from Mr. Harris. You remember Mr. Harris, don't you? Ritchie's former teacher who was so gorgeous that Matthew and Richard developed weird fixations on him as well.

That's right. Blair Underwood is back, reprising his role as Mr. Harris. And while he remains as handsome as ever, things couldn't be more complicated between him and Christine as they were tonight.

'The New Adventures of Old Christine' (8PM, CBS)
Old Christine has a new love dilemma, but trust us, you're not gonna feel too sorry for her. Just as the wacky single mom seems to have found love with therapist Max (
Will & Grace' star Eric McCormack), guess who's popping back into her life? How 'bout a certain Mr. Harris (Blair Underwood), a.k.a. Ritchie's former teacher, the hottie who dated and dumped Christine when things got a little complicated with their relationship. Mr. Harris returns and wants to get a little somethin'-somethin' started with Christine again ... who will she choose? Let's be honest, with Christine, the bigger concern is that she'll somehow end up losing them both.

Here's to Mr. Harris, with love.

Blair Underwood, aka Mr. Daniel Harris, is set to to return for a single episode of CBS' 'The New Adventures of Old Christine' in January, according to the Ausiello Files.

Underwood's character was featured in a season two and three plot line that saw him and Christine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus)
cozy up as a couple -- that is, until Christine's schedule became too busy (too many 'New Adventures,' we take it).

Last season, Gabriel Byrne, Dianne Wiest and Blair Underwood lead an amazing cast in one of the most daring new projects on television: HBO's In Treatment. For nine weeks, the show aired virtually every night in half-hour installments. Gabriel Byrne was the constant, therapist Paul Weston, and each show featured one of his therapy sessions with a different patient. And with the sessions each happening Monday through Friday on the same day the show aired, the progression of the show felt like real time.

Which is why I don't get HBO's move to jigger with the schedule for the second season of In Treatment, starting this Sunday. Now, instead of getting one session per day throughout the week, we're getting two back-to-back episodes on Sundays starting at 9/8 Central and three consecutive installments on Mondays starting at 9/8 Central. Their reasoning for this change: they found that people tended to watch the show in clumps anyway, so why not air it like that? But honestly, it's so much more intimidating this way. When it's only 30 minutes each night, it doesn't feel like much, but now you're looking at an hour and a half on Mondays!

Blair Underwood is extremely sexy. Admit it: male or female, gay or straight, no matter what your "type" is, there's just something about him.

Playing the mysterious Simon Elder on ABC's Dirty Sexy Money -- not to mention past screen-steamers like Jonathan Rollins on L.A. Law, Miranda's boyfriend Dr. Robert on Sex and the City and New Adventures of Old Christine's hunky teacher Mr. Harris -- it's no wonder Underwood ranks so high on the TV's 50 Hottest TV Hunks -- Ever countdown over at AOL Television.

(S02E01) The Darlings are back! Despite all the behind-the-scenes personnel and casting changes, Dirty Sexy Money appears to be better than ever. Loyal fans were rewarded with a major development in last season's murder mystery, and the premiere gave new viewers plenty of reasons to come back for more. Season One feels like it ended ages ago, but "The Birthday Present" was the perfect refresher course in the elements of this gorgeous, twisted world.
