Blake Lively Tells Jay Leno About Swimming With Great White Sharks (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jun 16th 2011 6:25AM
Blake Lively and Jay LenoBlake Lively stopped by 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC) to promote her new movie, 'The Green Lantern,' and she revealed an unexpectedly adventurous side to her personality.

On vacation, someone suggested she give swimming with sharks a go. Lively's initial reaction? "I'm terrified of sharks. Sounds like a horrible idea. Let's do it! ... So, I went cage-diving with Great White Sharks!"

From what Lively said, it's a pretty gruesome experience. The guides attract sharks to the cage by throwing blood and fish guts into the water. The divers jump in and start to swim in the cage amidst all that gore. And then lots of sharks turn up and start biting at the cage.

"It's like everything you never wanted to happen, is happening." Happily for Lively, though, she can see the positive side, and thinks that although the experience was terrifying at first, it's also kind of beautiful.

'Gossip Girl' - 'The Unblairable Lightness of Being' Recap

by Laura Prudom, posted Apr 13th 2010 10:02AM

(S03E18) "You can have the prize - I'm sure you'll know what to do with five women with removable heads." Blair to Chuck.

Oh, what tangled webs those Upper East Siders weave; we can always count on 'Gossip Girl' to squeeze a scandal out of any special occasion, which, this week, happened to be Dorota's shotgun wedding.

Turns out that Mommy and Daddy Dorota are the traditional types, and their plans for an impromptu visit to the Big Apple to see their daughter seem to necessitate some immediate (and lavish) nuptials -- what better way to distract ma and pa from the fact that their little angel has been sneakily hiding her pregnancy from them, like any self-respecting career girl?

'Gossip Girl' - 'Inglorious Bassterds' Recap

Gossip Girl(S03E17) "He is sitting down with Satan this morning." - Blair about Chuck

Mark your calendars, everyone, because all the teen/tweens of the show were in the same building at the same time! That even includes Eric, who finally returned to the show.

But that wasn't the important event of the episode. Actually, Nate's birthday party and Vanessa and Dan's relationship problems were only filler when compared to what happened between Satan Jack, Chuck and Blair. "Oh. My God." is all I can say about the twists and turns of this storyline!

'Gossip Girl' - 'The Empire Strikes Jack' Recap

Gossip Girl(S03E16) "I'm a firm believer in second chances." - Eleanor

I'm a believer in second chances, as well, but some people don't deserve second chances. Where 'Gossip Girl' is concerned, two of these people are Jack and Agnes. Both are bad news and only bring pain to our favorite characters.

Thankfully, the show brought back two beloved recurring characters that bring some balance to the dark side brought by Agnes and Jack: Eleanor and Dorota. How long has it been since we last saw those two? Long enough for Eleanor to have a complete new line of clothes ready to show the world and for Dorota to be ready to pop!

(S03E15) "Rufus is driving Jenny right into Damien's creepy arms." - Serena to Nate

This week's Jenny-centric episode made me notice how I missed seeing the entire gang working together towards a common goal. However, Chuck and Blair were left on the sidelines since he was occupied by Jack, Elizabeth, a lawsuit and a boycott.

No matter, it was refreshing to see Serena, Nate, Dan, Vanessa, Lily and Rufus all work hand in hand in order to locate Jenny and bring her back to safety -- location also known as "the loft where Jenny will be grounded for life."

It seems like a season ago when we last saw our favorite Upper Eastsiders, no? The last new episode aired on December 7, which was three months ago! That's as long as we have to wait between a season finale and a season premiere!!! Our patience will be rewarded with ten consecutive weeks of fresh episodes!

'The Debarted' may have aired a lifetime ago, and if you missed the recap at the beginning of the episode, you may not remember much of what happened. Well, maybe except that jaw-dropping moment near the end where Chuck finds an unidentified woman at Bart's grave. Is she his mother?

Review: Gossip Girl - The Debarted

Gossip Girl(S03E12) "I know today is the anniversary of his death." - Blair to Chuck

As Ryan said in comments to last week's post, "The Treasure of Serena Madre" would've been a great last episode of 2009 with all of the drama and excitement it contained, as well as the few cliffhangers. However, The CW decided otherwise and aired one more episode before the show goes on hiatus.

Now that I've seen "The Debarted," I agree with Ryan. The network should have ended 2009 with "The Treasure of Serena Madre" and air this week's installment in January as the sole new episode before the Olympics since it also ended with a few cliffhangers. Don't you agree?

'Saturday Night Live' Airs Controversial Tiger Woods Parody (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Dec 7th 2009 9:25AM
In what critics are describing as a supreme act of insensitivity, given that Rihanna was scheduled as musical guest, 'Saturday Night Live' parodied Tiger Woods' recent headline-making troubles with a sketch portraying him as the victim of domestic abuse at the hands of wife Elin Nordegren.

In the sketch, which included Kenan Thompson as Woods and host Blake Lively as Nordegren, the wife of the pro-golfer strikes him with a golf club off-camera, and Woods appeals for help by holding a sign that read "Help me."
Rumors have been circulating that a domestic spat between Woods and his wife may have led up to his late-night crash into the tree of a neighbor's home on Nov. 27. Woods has denied such rumors.

Review: Saturday Night Live - Blake Lively/Rihanna

I will be perfectly honest: I was not at all looking forward to this episode. A few months ago, I had forced myself to watch two seasons of Gossip Girl for blogging purposes (okay, it was also an excuse to stare at their fantastic costuming), and I couldn't bring myself to continue. One of the reasons why I disliked the show so much was Serena, Blake Lively's character.

However, I'm happy to say I was pleasantly surprised by this episode. Lively was minimally awkward and brought great enthusiasm through the entire evening (though not an exhausting amount of zeal Joseph Gordon-Levitt style). I liked how it didn't seem Lively went on the show with a mission (apart from showing off her crazy legs); she didn't try to show off her musical side, cling to strictly "pretty girl" skits, or get controversial. She was just there, having a good time.

Also, for the most part, the writing was solid this week. Probably the most consistently funny installment in quite a while. Even the strange treatment of the Cold Open (with the Obama party crashers) was adorable.

Saturday Night Live, Blake LivelyThis week's episode of 'Saturday Night Live' featured Blake Lively as the guest host, with Rihanna as the musical guest.

President Obama made a special appearance to talk about the economy, only to be interrupted by those pesky gatecrashers Tareq and Michaele Salahi.

Other hot topics included Tiger Woods, Rihanna and Shy Ronnie taking their message to the classroom, and 'Gossip Girl: Staten Island.' Here's a round-up of 'SNL' skits from last night.

(S03E11) It's Thanksgiving time on the Upper East Side, and you know what that means? Loads of drama and awkward situations. This special episode also marks the return of a few of the show's mothers, including Jessica's mother, Blair's mother, and Lily's mother CeCe.

Sadly, due to a prior engagement, I will not be able to offer you a full review of the episode in due time. Please take a few minutes to post your reactions to the episodes in the comments section below. In my review of the December 7 episode, I'll post my comments about "The Treasure of Serena Madre" and may include a few of your own comments.

So don't be shy. Let the other TV Squad readers know what you thought of this week's episode. What did you think of all the mother drama? Was Jenny's revenge against Eric too much? How about the damaging info Chuck has on his friends? Share your reactions, theories, and comments below.

The last episode before the holiday break, "The Debarted," will air next week on December 7.

'Saturday Night Live' December Lineup: Blake Lively, Taylor Lautner, James Franco

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 30th 2009 10:45AM
Taylor LautnerThe December slate of hosts is coming together for NBC's 'Saturday Night Live.' Joining the already announced Blake Lively ('Gossip Girl') and the ever-dependable James Franco will be cinema's sexiest werewolf, Taylor Lautner.

According to Variety, Lautner is on board to host the Dec. 12 episode, with Bon Jovi as musical guest. The 'Twilight' co-star is currently riding the blockbuster success of 'New Moon,' as well as his shorter -- and much more appealing -- locks. Maybe they could bring Taylor Swift back for the 'Firelight' sequel trailer, with Lautner playing his own parody.

Check out the December schedule after the jump.

Blake Lively to Host 'Saturday Night Live'

by Gary Susman, posted Nov 25th 2009 10:55AM
Another new episode of 'Saturday Night Live,' another hot young starlet as host.

NBC announced yesterday that 'Gossip Girl' star Blake Lively will host the Dec. 5 episode. Rihanna will be the musical guest.

The veteran sketch comedy series' 35th season has already featured several rising young hotties as hosts, with less than stellar results. Megan Fox, who hosted the season premiere, and January Jones, who hosted a couple weeks ago, were widely derided as unfunny and out of their element. Only Taylor Swift, who hosted and served as musical guest, seemed to click with the cast and viewers.

Gossip Girl - Lady Gaga
(S03E10) "Vanessa, you are in love with Dan." - Olivia

Last week's threesome scenes left a few viewers wanting more. This week, viewers were not only treated to more footage from the threesome scenes, but to a lot of drama caused by said Olivia-Dan-Vanessa threesome experiment. As expected, the threesome made Dan and Vanessa's feelings for one another resurface, even if they didn't clearly admit it or deny it.

The episode also featured a guest performance by singer Lady Gaga (pictured above in a behind the scenes photo with Penn Badgley and Leighton Meester).

Even if this was Jenny's episode, the much talked about threesome scenes stole the show.

The Parents Television Council (PTC) tried to get the network not to air this week's episode of Gossip Girl due to the threesome scene it included. In a letter sent out to the network, the PTC claims The CW's decision to air the episode is "reckless and irresponsible." In the same letter, they mention that by airing this scene, the network is, in a way, letting young kids know that they should take part in such sexual behaviors.
