Chelsea Clinton Makes Her Debut as an NBC Special Correspondent (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Dec 13th 2011 7:35AM
Chelsea Clinton on 'NBC Nightly News'Last night Chelsea Clinton made her debut as an NBC News special correspondent. The former First Daughter appeared on 'Nightly News With Brian Williams' to introduce her 'Making a Difference' segment, which aired in full later on 'Rock Center.'

So, how did she do? Pretty well, as it turned out. Chatting to Williams she was poised and confident, with perhaps just a hint of nerves underlying her banter.

Clinton's report featured the work of Annette Dove, who helps underprivileged children in Pine Bluff, Ark. With food, shelter and tutoring, Dove provides a safety net for some of the most vulnerable members of the community.

Check out Clinton's debut after the jump. And listen closely: When she said, "Thank you Brian, I'm very happy to be here," did somebody in the studio clap?

Brian Williams Reads the News Through Fire Alarm (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Nov 30th 2011 11:45AM
Few things are as awkwardly entertaining to watch as when live TV goes wrong. Tuesday night on 'NBC Nightly News,' a fire alarm went off in the middle of the broadcast as Brian Williams was reading a report about American Airlines' bankruptcy. Williams handled the distraction like a pro, pressing on to deliver the news over the noise. It was almost disappointing that he kept his composure and didn't melt-down into a "We'll do it live!" moment, but the video is still oddly hilarious to watch anyway.

Brian Williams Previews 'Rock Center' and His After-Hours Sardonic Style (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 31st 2011 6:45PM
Brian Williams' news magazine 'Rock Center' premieres Monday night at 10PM ET, and to celebrate the occasion, Williams gave Al Roker a tour of his new set, built conveniently a few steps away from the set of his other gig, 'NBC Nightly News.' Williams, in his after-hours slightly sardonic style, showed Roker his "conversation nook" and described what the tone of the new show will be.

As Roker sat on his couch and immediately began talking about his first career TV appearance. Williams flashed the dry sense of humor that may come to define 'Rock Center,' and asked "How much of this is gonna be about you, and how much, by percentage, will be about our new broadcast?"

Gabourey Sidibe Hits on Brian Williams (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 28th 2011 3:15PM
Gabourey Sidibe's propensity for hitting on older men ran into Brian Williams' awkward mojo Friday on 'Today' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC). As the gang was talking about the scene in 'Tower Heist' where Sidibe flirts with Eddie Murphy, and Al Roker brought up the fact that Sidibe was standing next to one of her real-life crushes, Williams.

"I'm so embarrassed by this," Sidibe said. But Williams stepped in to save her, saying, "We've done a few charity events together, we've had our moments in the past, we've admitted this publicly." After they kissed on the cheek, Roker ended the segment with an apt sign-off. "Can't wait to see 'Rock Center,'" he said, in his best Quagmire from 'Family Guy' voice. Neither can we, Al.

Brian Williams Has Great Hair, But Terrible Eating Habits on 'Late Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 4th 2011 3:00AM
Brian Williams, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Brian Williams was looking particularly dapper for his 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) appearance, thanks apparently to the marmoset. According to the 'NBC Nightly News' anchor, his newest hair product is made from them, and more importantly, it doesn't show roots.

After he left, David Letterman let us know that he was headed back to his regular job over at 30 Rockefeller Center, which is only a few blocks away. So for fun, Letterman put a camera on to watch him making his way back to work.

The footage caught Brian Williams stopping off at a dumpster and taking a sandwich out of him. We know he's a hard-working man, but he doesn't have time to stop at a sandwich place, or at least a street vendor?

'Access Hollywood Live' Looks at the Final 'Lopez Tonight' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 12th 2011 3:45PM
Eva Longoria and George Lopez on the Final 'Lopez Tonight' on 'Access Hollywood Live'Thursday night marked the end of the line for George Lopez on 'Lopez Tonight,' and Friday, 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC) devoted a considerable amount of time to clips from the show. The main guest on the final 'Lopez Tonight' was Eva Longoria, and she and Lopez had a loose and open conversation about the end of the show. After the clips, Brian Williams gave his opinion on who might replace Lopez in the late night slot.

Lopez asked Longoria about her "wardrobe malfunction" on Letterman in April, when a button popped loose on an already revealing top. Nothing improper actually got shown, but Longoria said it was the most downloaded video of the month. "Maybe if I did that here, we would still be on," said Longoria. Lopez suggested in might not be too late. Longoria also noted that when the show started, she and Lopez were both employed and married, and now they are both divorced and jobless.

Brian Williams Describes Flying in a Rickety Private Plane With Regis Philbin (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 26th 2011 10:00AM
Brian Williams, 'Late Show with David Letterman'When you think of a private aircraft that a celebrity might use, you're probably imagining a little slice of luxury in the sky. So was Brian Williams when he agreed to travel with Regis Philbin to an awards ceremony.

As he told David Letterman on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), the reality was quite a bit different.

"We get on and ... the pilots board first and then instruct you in how to close the ... You have to close yourself inside the thing," Williams said.

As a journalist, though, Williams appreciates the value of a picture and so we saw a darkened shot of him and Philbin. It looked like they were packed in the back of a shipping crate, with one small bulb illuminated above them.

Brian Williams Slow Jams News on 'Late Night'Can health care reform be sexy? Jimmy Fallon and NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams gave it their best shot on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' (weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC).

With a lounge beat and smooth backup vocals from house band The Roots, Jimmy and Brian "slow jammed the news" and cracked a couple jokes along the way. Snap your fingers and sway to the beat.

Diane Sawyer's Ratings Success at ABC's 'World News': Lessons Learned

by Gary Susman, posted Jan 27th 2010 2:30PM
While NBC has been mired in a public bloodbath over job changes among some high-profile employees, ABC has quietly and smoothly managed the job transition between two of its biggest on-air personalities, Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer. Not only did Sawyer's replacement of Gibson last month as anchor of 'World News' occur with a minimum of fuss and strife, but it also has met the network's goal, at least so far, of a ratings boost for the nightly newscast.

Brian Williams on Tiger coverage, his funny self, and what's on his iPod

by Joel Keller, posted Dec 17th 2009 2:03PM
Brian WilliamsWhen NBC was promoting Brian Williams' fifth anniversary as anchor of the NBC Nightly News, I figured it was a good opportunity to ask him a few questions. After all, with two wars, a lousy economy, the health care debate, and Tiger Woods, there's lots of news going on right now.

And, in such a relatively short period of time, the news landscape has changed on both the broadcast and the cable fronts, including the fact that on Monday, when Diane Sawyer takes over ABC's World News, he'll be the only male evening news anchor left.

Williams (or as he's been called lately, BriWi) was nice enough to answer some questions via e-mail about his new competition and how he lets his famous sense of humor come through during a serious newscast. Finally, he gives me some insight into what he's listening to right now (if you've seen previous interviews with him, he leans more towards the college radio side).

Meryl Streep, Michael Douglas Join History Documentary

by Leonard Jacobs, posted Dec 10th 2009 12:50PM
Though the U.S. is a young nation -- just 233 years old if you trace it back to the Declaration of Independence in 1776 -- the settling of the continent goes back four centuries or more.

With that in mind, the History Channel will premiere 'America: The Story of Us' in 2010, an epic 12-part series examining how this nation of average citizens, not royalty, have determined its course from the very beginning.

According to Variety, Meryl Streep and Michael Douglas are among a starry list of narrators confirmed for the series, which draws talent from Hollywood and politics. Other narrators will include former Secretary of StateColin Powell and NBC anchor Brian Williams.

Including tonight's broadcast, Charles Gibson will occupy the anchor's chair at 'World News' just 11 more times before signing off permanently on Dec. 18, according to Variety.

In a statement posted on ABC's blog, 'The World Newser,' Jon Banner, executive producer of 'World News,' lauded Gibson, who has anchored the program since 2006. He noted how ABC is "preparing to see our very good friend and anchor off as he begins a new journey."

The Beatles Rock Band creates another British invasion on my TV

The Beatles Rock Band
The Beatles Rock Band
video game came out yesterday. The only way you couldn't have known that is if you took your head off your neck, preserved all of the necessary blood vessels and spine connections, and then placed said head (heh) in cryogenic storage for the last two days.

That's because my TV was filled with not just advertisements, but personal appearances, morning show demos, and even news stories about the release of the game.

Even Jesus doesn't get this much attention in the media. Oh crap.

Brian Williams and Jon Stewart: Oh, it's on

by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 27th 2009 12:27PM
This is from last week but I think it's worth showing today, because when Brian Williams went on The Daily Show they didn't just talk about politics, they got into a sometimes good-natured, sometimes prickly trade of insults (some of Stewart's digs are clearly serious, but Williams can give as good as he gets). They also mention Walter Cronkite and Billy Mays.
