House: Broken (season premiere)

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Sep 21st 2009 10:03PM
Dr. Nolan (guest star Andre Braugher, L) works with his patient House (Hugh Laurie, R) at Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital in the HOUSE two-hour season premiere.
(S06E01/S06E02) "Oh, I'm sorry, is suicide taboo? Gosh, if I've broken a rule on my first day, I will kill myself." - House

This is not the House we know and love - both the show and character. While the lack of any resemblance to the typical medical procedural we're used to might have been a turn off to some, I feel pretty confident in saying that tonight's premiere will likely go down as one of the best episodes of House ever - regardless for how long it runs.

After seeing House check himself into a psychiatric hospital after last year's hallucinations and subsequent break-down, there's been one big question bugging us all and I pointed it out earlier today in my preview - is he or isn't he crazy? While we got our answer, it really doesn't matter because there was a whole lot more at stake than House's mental prowess in "Broken."

House season six -- An early look

Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House
Dr. Gregory House has problems. This is not news. We know this. His colleagues know this. He knows this. The issue at the core of tonight's two-hour season premiere of House ("Broken" airs at 8PM ET on Fox), is waiting patiently for our favorite curmudgeon to admit what he knows.

Ever since last season's finale, we've all wanted to know one thing - is House really crazy or has the Vicodin finally done enough damage that he's hallucinating dead people and having imaginary sex with Cuddy? The answer is finally revealed, and despite Fox's viral marketing campaign that presented the possibility of someone having done something to House to cause his problems, it turns out that Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital is precisely where he belongs. Or is it?

Jenna Fischer's summer is pretty much shot to hell

by Anna Johns, posted May 30th 2007 11:29AM
jenna fischerPoor, sweet Jenna Fischer! She broke her back in four places when she took a tumble down some marble stairs a couple of weeks ago and it looks like she'll spend the rest of the summer recovering from her injuries. She recently gave an interview about her accident, and says she felt her feet fly out from underneath her and landed hard on the stairs. She says the pain "was consuming and immediate. I never felt anything like it." She's still in pain, but manages to keep a sunny outlook in the interview (isn't that why we adore her?).

Jenna has slowly been on the mend since the May 14th accident. She has been in a lot of pain and has not been able to travel back home to Los Angeles (she's in NYC). She's been taking slow walks in Central Park to try and heal her back. Jenna says she has received warm wishes from cast members of The Office, and even got some cupcakes from Zach Braff, who happened to be at the party where she fell.

Luckily, Jenna had just wrapped shooting a movie with John C. Reilly where they play a skewed version of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash so it's just her summer vacation, and not her work schedule, that is being interrupted. Jenna has to rest and recover for the next 12 weeks, and then it's right back to the set of The Office. You can send her your well wishes at her MySpace page.

Damn heels! Jenna Fischer breaks her back

by Anna Johns, posted May 16th 2007 6:27PM
jenna fischerApparently Ms. Jenna Fischer had a bit of a tumble involving some high heels and a marble staircase. Whitney over at Pop Candy is reporting that Fischer fell down some stairs on Monday as she was trying to maneuver in very high heels. Jenna broke her back in four places. She was in New York at the time and now is being cared for by her husband, filmmaker James Gunn, and The Office co-star, Angela Kinsey. You can send her a Get Well Soon note at her MySpace page.

The Office has wrapped for the season so her injury won't hamper her role as Pam Beesly, but it's going to be a crappy summer for sweet Jenna.

Katharine McPhee fractures her foot

by Anna Johns, posted Aug 3rd 2006 7:28PM
katharine mcpheeWhat did Katharine McPhee do to tip the balance in the universe so bad things happen to her? Maybe it's because she continues to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow as if she wrote the song herself. Earlier this week, she broke her foot during a performance. Her wranglers say she tripped on something backstage at the Idols concert in Charlotte, North Carolina. She sang two songs wearing "slipper sandals" (huh?) and then went directly to the hospital for x-rays, which revealed a broken left foot. She had just rejoined the tour last Friday after suffering from bronchitis and laryngitis. This mishap, however, is not enough for her to leave the tour.

NBC customer service really sucks

by Anna Johns, posted Jul 26th 2006 8:08AM
dwight schrute bobbleheadRemember how my Dwight Schrute bobblehead arrived in two pieces? That was July 12th. On that day, I called NBC customer service and the genius on the telephone told me not to send it back and that someone would call me in 1-2 business days with instructions. Guess what? It's been nine business days and not a peep. I had nearly forgotten about it, except I was cleaning boxes off the dining room table and found Broken Dwight. I called NBC customer service again, and this time the guy told me that I should've sent it back. Ya think? I also have to pay for postage. And Dwight is so popular that I probably won't get one until September.

Am I in an episode of The Office?
