'Law & Order' Again? Here Are 10 Better Ideas for You, NBC

by Stephanie Earp, posted Apr 20th 2010 7:51PM

I remember when 'Law & Order: SVU' debuted, there were a lot of joking articles asking what would be next, 'Law & Order: Pet Detectives'? There were also questions about how many of these shows an audience could really take, and so on and so forth, with the same humor (if you can call it that) applied to the 'CSI' and 'NCIS' franchises as they came along.

Well guess what, people? 'Law & Order' is doing it again. NBC has greenlit a fourth version of 'L&O' -- set in L.A. -- for a fall debut. The original and 'SVU' are also looking good for renewals, while 'Criminal Intent' airs on cable network USA and on NBC.

My mind is boggled by this news. At this point, when I watch 'L&O' it has the same sort of nostalgic feeling I used to get from old episodes of 'Little House on the Prairie'.

What to Watch Weekend Dec. 20-21

(Sun., 9PM, VH1) 1st season finale
This could prove to be one of the most anticlimactic reality finales ever given the brouhaha that unfolded at the taping of the show's reunion special.

For those who haven't heard the news, ousted contestant Megan Hauserman reportedly called the cops on host Sharon Osbourne, charging that the famous music manager and wife of Ozzy attacked her.

It was Hauserman's own act of violence -- kicking fellow contestant Brandi M. -- that got her kicked out of 'Charm School,' while Brandi M., along with Destiney and Lacey, is now among the three finalists vying for the big $100,000 grand prize tonight. Irony.

'Army Wives'
(Sun., 10PM, Lifetime) 2nd season finale
Thankfully, no one's getting blown up in this season ender, but there are major changes ahead for the residents of Fort Marshall.

First up, Betty's nephew (guest star Ivan Sergei) visits and has news for Roxy that's going to add stress to what's already been a trying season for Roxy and Trevor.

Meanwhile, Pamela begins to question her life choices -- namely marrying into the military; Roland has to help out with a former patient; and Claudia Joy and Michael also have to get used to a few adjustments at Casa Holden, but that doesn't mean they're going to be happy about all of them.

Robot ChickenHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

Wow, this is quite a list of shows this week, though I think the only one I'm definitely going to buy is the second season 30 Rock set. Maybe the Three Stooges set too. Those are good sets to have. I'm tempted to buy the complete series set for Speed Racer because I remember it from my childhood, but I have a big suspicion that my memories would be better than the show itself.

  • 30 Rock - Season 2
  • The Beverly Hillbillies - Season 2
  • Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern - Collection 2
  • Brotherhood - Season 2
  • Corner Gas - Season 5
  • Doctor Who - The Brain of Morbius and Trial of a Time Lord
  • Full Circle with Michael Palin
  • Ghost Hunters - Season 4, Part 1
  • How I Met Your Mother - Season 3
  • Johnny Cash & Friends - Christmas Specials
  • Martin - Season 5
  • Midsomer Murders - Box Set 11
  • Mission: Impossible - Season 5
  • The Munsters - Complete Series and Family Portrait
  • Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares - Vol. 2
  • Robot Chicken - Season 3
  • The Sarah Jane Adventures - Season 1
  • The Simpsons - Season 11

Showtime wrap-up: executive session and four shows talk at once - TCA Report

by Joel Keller, posted Jul 19th 2008 12:28PM
Showtime stars
When I posted the news items that came out of Showtime's portion of the CBS tour, the one question I got was "When will Dexter be back?" Well, network president Robert Greenblatt mentioned that the third season would debut in September. No word beyond that. Didn't seem like news to me. But there you are, Dexter fans; that's all I've got on that.

The executive session was introduced by a semi-funny clip from one of the network's stars, Tracey Ullman. Really, it wasn't that good, so I won't talk much about it here. Greenblatt also showed clips of The United States of Tara and Nurse Jackie during his opening remarks. Other than that? Well, isn't that enough?

Showtime's Brotherhood gets a third season

by Brad Trechak, posted Jan 22nd 2008 9:18AM
BrotherhoodAccording to the Hollywood Reporter, Showtime has given its crime drama Brotherhood a third season. While the show is not the best with regards to ratings, it has been a critical hit.

For those who don't watch, Brotherhood is the story of the Caffee brothers, who are members of an Irish mob family based in Providence, Rhode Island. The characters are loosely based on Winter Hill Gang member Whitey Bulger and his ex-politician brother William.

What Jonathan is thankful for

Brotherhood
Eat. Sleep. Pepto Bismol. Television. The four things that describe Thanksgiving for me. They all go hand in hand really, but let's be honest -- TV is the one that really matters. I can have turkey any time I want, but I can only watch my favorite shows once a week. Despite the WGA strike putting a wrinkle into my winter viewing plans, there's still plenty to be happy about.
