Bryan Batt Interview on 'Mad Men,' His "Momoir" and Musicals

by Kelly Woo, posted Mar 22nd 2010 2:00PM
Bryan BattSave Sal!

That was the resounding refrain of 'Mad Men' viewers everywhere this season, when the character Sal Romano (played by the suave Bryan Batt) was fired after rejecting a male client's sexual advances. After leaving the Sterling Cooper ad agency in disgrace, the art director's current whereabouts are unknown, and Batt told AOL TV he isn't sure if he'll return to the 'Mad Men' set in season 4.

He also spoke to us about the March 23 release of the 'Mad Men' season 3 DVD, his upcoming memoir about his mother ("momoir") and the resurgence of his hometown, New Orleans.

'Mad Men's' Sal To Guest on 'Ugly Betty'

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 12th 2010 10:15AM
bryan_batt_mad_men_nycThe men from 'Mad Men' are very busy these days. You have Jon Hamm all over the place, with beard and without, not to mention he and John Slattery being immortalized by Mattel as action figures. Action figures sound more manly than dolls, but you get the picture. The other night Rich Sommer was on 'Ugly Betty' as loutish firefighter.

And now the news that Bryan Batt will be on 'Ugly Betty,' too. TVGuide.com confirms that Bryan -- who was so good on 'Mad Men' as Salvatore Romano -- will be playing a soap opera star who Amanda decides would be Mr. Right for Marc. She plays Yenta, the Matchmaker, and hopefully, the two guys will hit it off. Batt's set for the April 7 episode, and may be in the series finale as well.

This post has a major spoiler about Mad Men, so don't read it

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 26th 2010 3:31PM
Mad Men
So there's a major character leaving AMC's Mad Men, and this is probably one of those casting decisions that's going to make dedicated Mad Men fans very upset. They might even Twitter or text "OMG!" to their friends.

But I'll put the announcement after the jump for those of you who don't want to know. The person leaving Mad Men is...

Coming Out in Hollywood: Is it Still a Risk? Matthew Weiner Thinks So

by Gary Susman, posted Dec 18th 2009 5:00PM
Despite the mainstream audience acceptance of such openly gay performers as Neil Patrick Harris, Ian McKellen, and Ellen DeGeneres, some Hollywood power brokers still feel that TV and movie audiences won't accept gay performers in straight roles.

That was made clear on Wednesday when 'Mad Men' creator Matthew Weiner, speaking on a Hollywood panel, said, "Let's not pretend" that gay actors who come out of the closet aren't risking a future of gay typecasting, according to Greg in Hollywood blogger Greg Hernandez.

Six Mad Men characters who are in limbo after the finale

Mad Men Season 3 finale
That was some Mad Men finale, wasn't it? If you haven't seen it yet, please stop reading now, because there was just too much going on for me not to just launch into some discussion.

OK, I'll wait until after the jump to really get into things. But, suffice to say, the end of season three left some characters going down a pretty well-determined path, but others have entered a sort of limbo state, where we don't quite know what their roles will be in season four.

Sneak Peek: this Sunday's Mad Men

by Bob Sassone, posted Sep 15th 2009 8:00AM
I'm not someone who thinks that a TV episode title (or book title or film title or song title) automatically means that the episode will be great, but isn't "Guy Walks Into An Advertising Agency" a terrific title for a Mad Men episode? In this sneak peek below, Lane Pryce and his irritating assistant John Hooker have a big announcement for the staff of Sterling Cooper.

Mad Men: The Arrangements

Mad Men
(S01E04) "He has no idea how confused America is going to be about that J. - Don, about jai alai

In the late 80s, when I was doing sales and marketing for a national music magazine, the staff played a joke on one of the new salespeople. We had to get a certain number of sales per day and she wasn't having any luck, so I called her phone and pretended to be a customer. I think I told her I was going to buy thousands of dollars worth of magazines. Looking back now it was an immature, cruel thing to do, but I thought of that during tonight's scene with the Sterling Cooper gang calling "Margaret" and pretending to be a potential roommate. People are such jerks.

But this episode was mostly about what happened to Gene...

One more big post about Mad Men before tonight's season premiere

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 16th 2009 10:03AM
HammHey, did you hear Mad Men's third season debuts tonight at 10 on AMC? Actually, when the show is this good, I don't mind the hype.

To prepare for the third season, here are some more web goodies for you (in addition to avatars, sneak peeks and recaps). The New York Times has an article on the cocktails of the Mad Men era, and if you want to make some of your own AMC has the drink recipes. AMC also has a Which Mad Man Are You? quiz. Or how about buying some of the era's items for your house?

There are also several interviews to read before the premiere, including Jon Hamm (here too), Christina Hendricks, Elisabeth Moss, and Vincent Kartheiser.

Oh, something from the other night, after the jump...

Mad Men: The Hobo Code

Mad Men

(S01E08)

"You know you have to leave the village for a decent screw." - Midge, when asked by a friend where she met Don

So Don gets stoned ("I feel like Dorothy, and everything just turned to color" - must have been his first time) with Midge and her hip beatnik friends and has a flashback of meeting a hobo when he was a kid. That was just one of the revealing moments in this episode, which was really about parties. Midge throws a party with her friends, and Don shows up smokes weed with them. Peggy and the girls and the guys from the office go to P.J. Clarke's to dance and drink (Pete goes too, the hell with helping his wife move into the new apartment), and Sal meets Elliot, one of the sales reps for the lipstick company, at a bar. Elliot makes a play for him (yes, readers, your instincts were correct), but Sal is too scared to do anything about it and just leaves after several drinks.
