'The Colbert Report'Stephen Colbert jumped on board the "Carpocalypse" bandwagon Thursday on 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central), joining forces with those freaking out about the closure of California's I-405 through the weekend on. 'CHiPs' Star Erik Estrada Helps L.A. Drivers Prepare for 'Carmageddon'

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jul 12th 2011 8:00AM
'CHiPs'In a case of "I'm not a cop but I play one on TV ... " veteran 'CHiPs' star Erik Estrada has teamed up with "real motorcycle police officers" for a PSA warning Los Angelenos about the oncoming cataclysm known as "Carmageddon."

L.A. drivers are preparing for a 53-hour shutdown of a 10-mile stretch of the I-405 from July 15th to 18th, which could paralyze the whole area.

In true Hollywood style, L.A. Metro asked Estrada -- a.k.a. Officer Frank "Ponch" Poncharello -- to record the PSA (in English and Spanish) reminding drivers to stay away from the area during the closure.

Watch the English-language version after the jump.
