Chris Elliott Gives Ewan McGregor the Brush-Off (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Feb 18th 2010 4:33AM
Late Show With David Letterman, Chris Elliott, Ewan McGregorChris Elliott is all grown up, and has a daughter who's all grown up, too! Abby Elliott (she's a regular on 'Saturday Night Live') appeared on 'Late Show With David Letterman' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), while her dad watched nervously backstage in the green room.

If only that annoying guy sitting next to him would just leave him alone! This may be the only time in history when someone told Ewan McGregor, "I don't know who you are, but can you shut up?!"

Watch the video after the jump.

What to Watch: November 23 - 29

by Stephanie Earp, posted Nov 23rd 2009 3:27AM

Glee (Thursday November 26, 8 pm, Global/Fox)

Eve (rapper, designer and Gwen Stefani's best bud) guest stars as the coach of another Glee Club - one that has actual practices, with rehearsing of dance steps and singing of the same song more than once - and guess what? They are awesome. See Will, if you had an actual plan...but no. It's no use. What would a mash-up of 'You're So Vain' and 'Glory Days' sound like? Also, Kurt gives Rachel a makeover.

Chris Elliott to Star in Cartoon Network Pilot 'Eagleheart'

by Scott Harris, posted Nov 17th 2009 12:21PM
Former 'Late Night' hosts and current competitors David Letterman and Conan O'Brien now have something else in common: Chris Elliott.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elliott, who got his break as a recurring guest star on 'Late Night with David Letterman' and went on to co-star with Letterman in 'Cabin Boy', will be playing the lead role in an upcoming live-action comedy pilot produced by O'Brien's Conaco Productions. Titled 'Eagleheart', the show will focus on the misadventures of a one-time action star, played by Elliott, who uses his role on the hit series 'Eagleheart' to push his conservative political agenda, bringing him in conflict with network executives.

Chris Elliott returns to TV

by Brad Trechak, posted Nov 17th 2009 11:06AM
Get a LifeChris Elliott is quite possibly the most famous person few people have heard of. His early '90s sitcom Get A Life is a classic and he's had runs on TV shows like Late Night With David Letterman and Everybody Loves Raymond as well as some memorable movie cameos. And now he's in a new TV show.

It's called Eagleheart and it's about an over-the-hill action star who uses his television show of the same name "as a soapbox for his right-wing politics and conservative paranoia". He'll likely be more carictaure than character. Is the character based on Chuck Norris, I wonder?

It is produced by Conan O'Brien's production company. Conan actually co-created a pilot with similar themes (an over-the-hill star trying to remain relevant) in the early 90's called Lookwell starring Adam West.

It's got the right star and the concept certainly sounds amusing. But did it have to be Cartoon Network? Isn't the word "cartoon" in the network's title? Yet another example of channel drift.

Letterman tragedy fouls grand memories of Late Nights past

by John Scott Lewinski, posted Oct 23rd 2009 1:02PM
David Letterman once brought you Larry What happened to David Letterman?

I don't mean the endlessly publicized sex scandal or the Sarah Palin controversy. I don't mean the ham-fisted and unfunny political commentary -- or even the strange tales of stalkers around every corner. I mean what happened to the guy from the mid-late 1980s who seemed so above and beyond any such tired showbiz cliches?

When Letterman followed Carson during the Golden Age of NBC late night TV, his show was admittedly quirky. But it was one of the best examples of post-modern comedy in the medium's history. Late Night with David Letterman not only mocked TV entertainment while being a part of it, but the show made fun of the very idea that people get paid to gab or act silly in front of millions of people.

Chris Elliott Joins 'How I Met Your Mother'

by Kim Potts, posted Oct 12th 2009 4:40PM
The identity of the titular mother remains a mystery, but 'How I Met Your Mother' fans will get to meet another parent: Lily's previously MIA dad, who'll be played by 'Get a Life' funny guy Chris Elliott.

Elliott joins the gang for the Thanksgiving episode -- set to air on CBS on Nov. 23 -- in which he'll be reunited with his estranged daughter during a holiday dinner at her grandparents' house.

EW.com's Michael Ausiello reports that we'll also see flashbacks to Lily's childhood, which will show some of her dad's shady shenanigans and shed light on why she's not exactly daddy's little girl.

Chris Elliott cast as Lily's pop on How I Met Your Mother

by Allison Waldman, posted Oct 10th 2009 9:38AM
chris_elliott_smilingIt'll be how I met Lily's dad on How I Met Your Mother. Chris Elliott has been cast as Lily's father on the CBS sitcom, a character who is supposedly something of a good-for-nothing parent. Elliott is hilarious and specializes in playing these kind of goofy roles. On Everybody Loves Raymond, for instance, his was Robert's overly familiar brother-in-law, Peter, who liked Ray just a little too much.

On HIMYM, Lily's dad will appear for the upcoming Thanksgiving episode on November 23. According to Michael Ausiello of EW.com, there will be series of flashbacks to illustrate exactly what's what with Lily and her father, why their relationship is "troubled." I'm hoping for more from this casting than Eric Braeden as Robin's dad; they never really used him right.

Law & Order: SVU snags James Brolin for season premiere

by Allison Waldman, posted Jul 17th 2008 8:02AM
james brolinOf all the Law & Orders -- and I watch all three -- Special Victims Unit is the one that indulges in more character-oriented storytelling. That's all for the better, as far as I'm concern, whether that means going inside Olivia's mind as she's struggled with knowing she was a child of rape, or suffering when Elliot's marriage was on the rocks.

When the new season of SVU returns on Tuesday, September 23, we'll be getting some more character development with a special appearance by Emmy winner James Brolin.

Richard Belzer, who plays Detective Munch, mentioned Brolin's guest appearance to TV Guide, saying, "He's a great guy; he's got a big fight scene with Stabler, so that should be fun." Brolin is playing a former military man who shares a past connection with Elliot. Hmm...was Christopher Meloni ever on Pensacola: Wings of Gold? Brolin, by the way, turns 68 this Friday, July 18. Remember when he was the hot, young motorcycle-riding Dr. Steve Kiley on Marcus Welby, M.D.?
