Stephen Colbert Proves Loving Christmas Isn't a Choice (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 9th 2011 4:30AM
'The Colbert Report'In response to Rick Perry's ad where he says the fact that "gays can serve openly in the military, but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas" is a sign that there's something wrong in America, Stephen Colbert wanted to say that he's not ashamed to admit he loves Christmas.

After explaining in detail how loving Christmas isn't a choice, he brought out two men dressed as Santa on 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central) to prove his love for the holiday.

He then lowered mistletoe over them, and as proud Christmas-loving men, they did what tradition dictates people must do under mistletoe.

'The Office': Pranks Between Jim and Dwight Reach a New Level (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 9th 2011 3:00AM
'The Office' - 'Christmas Wishes'Pranks took center stage during the holiday party on 'The Office' (Thu., 9PM ET on NBC). Apparently, the constant back-and-forth between Jim and Dwight has lead to a complaint from the new girl in the office, which lead to Andy making an ill-advised ultimatum.

The next person who pranks gets both of their bonuses. But all this ruling did was cause the pair to start pranking themselves, under the pretext that it's the other doing it. When Andy realized what was going wrong, he called off the threat but again made a boneheaded move by only telling Jim.

'Parks & Recreation': Leslie Gives the Best Presents (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 9th 2011 2:30AM
'Parks & Recreation' - 'Citizen Knope'This holiday-themed installment of 'Parks & Recreation' (Thu., 8:30PM ET on NBC) looked at the fallout of Ben's resignation and the scandal that rocked Leslie's campaign. With a two-week suspension, Leslie found herself simply unable to do nothing, so she started a community action group.

But it was her actions, via proxy Ann, at work that spurred everybody else to action. As usual, Leslie gave the most thoughtful gifts to everyone, so this year they decided to return the favor. Settling on a scale replica gingerbread model of the office. It would prove to be a huge winner.

'Community': Abed Convinces Troy to Join Glee With a Rap (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 9th 2011 1:00AM
'Community' - 'Regional Holiday Music'While NBC continues to insist that the absence of 'Community' (Thu., 8PM ET on NBC) from its 2012 midseason schedule does not mean the show has been cancelled, many fans still feel that this episode may be their last chance to rally support for the show. (Save Greendale!) To make that task simpler, the 'Community' gang riffed on one of television's most popular and acclaimed shows.

When members of the Greendale Glee Club found itself suffering simultaneous nervous breakdowns, director Taran Killam ('Saturday Night Live') called on the study group to fill in -- except for Britta. When they rejected him, he realized he only had to turn one and then that person would do the work for him.

Max Feels the Holiday Spirit on 'Happy Endings' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 8th 2011 7:30AM
'Happy Endings' - 'Grinches Be Crazy'Most parents are familiar with those homemade coupons that their kids give them. For some reason, Alex continued to do that into adulthood until finally, Dave called her on it in this week's holiday-themed episode of 'Happy Endings' (Wed., 9:30PM ET on ABC).

To prove the coupons were sincere, Alex decided to allow Dave to cash in all the coupons he'd received throughout the year, which included a nice indoor beach party. That became the replacement vacation for Brad and Jane after they gave their trip away to their housekeeper.

'Modern Family': Express Christmas Is a Near Total Disaster (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 8th 2011 2:30AM
'Modern Family' - 'Express Christmas'Things might not have gone according to plan with Phil's "Express Christmas" plan on 'Modern Family' (Wed., 9PM ET on ABC), but there were plenty of laughs along the way. Plus, as the clan was separated to tackle different holiday-related tasks as fast as possible, it was surprising to see Hayley emerge as the most savvy and competent one.

Her tactic of pretending to work for Target to secure an item someone else had already picked up was sheer genius. For everyone else, though, it was one mishap after another until finally they had to call it. This just wasn't going to happen.

Only Jay had one final trick up his sleeve. When he invited everyone out to Chinese instead, they opened the door to a guy blowing snow all over the front lawn. Sure, they were poolside earlier that day, but by the end it was a little piece of Christmas for the whole family.

Dan Harmon Talks About the 'Community' Christmas Episode, Conceptual Stories, and 'Dungeons & Dragons'

by Joel Keller, posted Dec 8th 2010 3:00PM
Abed's Winter Wonderland in the Christmas episode of 'Community'
The last time I spoke to 'Community' creator Dan Harmon in September, he had already written the script for the stop-action-animated Christmas episode that is set to air Thursday at 8:00PM on NBC. While he had an idea of how long doing a stop-action animation on an episode would take, he had no idea how truly involved the process is.

"One thing that I didn't anticipate was that every shot was an effects shot," he told me earlier this week. "Post-productively there's stuff you have to do. If a character jumps up in the air and clicks his heels, you're rotoscoping things out that are helping that person stay in the air while they're jumping in the air, and I thought that was fascinating."

Even as late as Monday, there were still some effects and music left to insert. But even in rough cut form, the episode is not only one of the best of the season, it shows quite well how Abed (Danny Pudi) sees the nutty world of Greendale Community College, as the entire episode is a product of his unconscious.

Speaking of Abed, Harmon also mentioned that this week they are shooting an episode where the gang plays the classic role-playing game 'Dungeons & Dragons,' with Abed (natch) as the Dungeon Master. More on both episodes after the jump.

days_of_our_lives_frances_reid_macdonald_careyIf you've been a soap watcher, you've probably seen the work of Frances Reid. Best known as Alice Horton on 'Days of Our Lives,' Frances Reid died yesterday at the age of 95.

For more than 40 years, Frances was the matriarch of the Horton family, Grandma Alice, one the wisest, wittiest and most charming oldster on daytime. She was 'Days of Our Lives' Rock of Gibralter, her character was the center of her family, the heart that kept it all together even when bizarre circumstances threatened to tear the Hortons apart.

What You Missed Last Night: a Jay Leno Show sketch that's actually kinda funny

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 8th 2010 12:45PM
Yes, Jay Leno talked about the whole NBC mess during his monologue last night, but this is something else. Leno showed a clip from what happened to one of the Jay Leno Show staff members during Christmas. You'll probably see the punchline coming a mile away, but it's still sort of amusing.

Why do some TV shows lie to their viewers about the holidays?

by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 29th 2009 9:04AM
Vanna and PatSo I'm watching Wheel of Fortune last night, the first new episode after Christmas. I was actually surprised that there was a new episode of the show (and Jeopardy). I thought they'd go into repeats like other game shows like The Price is Right and Let's Make A Deal this week.

Anyway, the show opens and Pat Sajak and Vanna White come out and greet the audience and the game is played. Then the duo come back for their banter before the show ends and they talk about Christmas and Pat asks Vanna how her Christmas went. She says it was good. And I sigh heavily and want to bash my head against my coffee table.
