Futurama the Complete Series on DVD in October
Straight from the Press Room at Fox, the complete series of Futurama (Seasons 1 to 4, plus the four movies) is being released October 13 in a collectible Bender head for the low, low price of $169.98 ($199.98 Canadian). Of course, once those new Comedy Central episodes are shown, this won't be the complete series anymore. Don't tell Fox. They need to sell DVDs.I wish I could justify getting this set, but I already purchased the first four seasons of the show on DVD and this isn't worth getting just for the four direct-to-DVD movies. Dear Fox: please release the four movies in a collectible head of Richard Nixon. Or one of the other characters. Which collectible head would you prefer to have?
The box set is also being released in honor of Futurama's ten-year anniversary. Can you believe this Simpsons knock-off is ten years old already? Just kidding. Family Guy is the Simpsons knock-off.
Battlestar Galactica: Season 4.5 - DVD review
One of the best parts of this job is the advance copies we get of television DVD sets. In short: Holy frak! The final set of Battlestar Galactica episodes is awesome.Minor spoilers follow...
There are those who liked the ending and those that didn't. I didn't like the lack of explanation of Kara's return from the dead and found the finale generally anti-climactic. But the series set a high standard and, overall, it's a minor complaint. In most ways, the series is perfect and far better than most of us deserve.
I'll give them this: the people who make the show know their audience ... that audience being nerds. Nerds like information. Hence, the DVD set is full of extras and special features. These include deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and extended versions of episodes, including the three-part finale, "Daybreak." And every episode (let me repeat that:: every episode) has podcast commentary by Ronald Moore.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - 20th Anniversary Complete Series - DVD review
If you're even mildly a fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation, you've no doubt heard of the recent release of the 20th anniversary edition of the complete series DVD set, complete with new bonus features. First you probably said to yourself, "holy crap, that was 20 years ago?! Get outta my yard!" You also likely groaned when you read the price tag of 400 smackeroos, which even for die-hard trekkies is a big pill to swallow.I was lucky enough to recently get a look at what this new DVD set. Is it really better to have the entire series in an all-in-one case? Are the bonus features worth the price itself? Well, I'll tell you my thoughts, at least. (See here for a gallery of packaging images.)
Six Feet Under: complete series coming to DVD
I was never a fan of the HBO series Six Feet Under. While the show had a unique aesthetic I always felt the creators' attempts at unpredictable storylines and eccentric characters lacked any kind of purity. Every moment of that series felt like a cold, calculated decision, and I could never shake that feeling of manipulation when I watched it. I had exactly the same reaction to creator Alan Ball's American Beauty, another example of something that was pretty to look at but lacked any real substance, like an Easter egg filled with shit.
Nevertheless, despite my aversion to the series and my poetic use of simile to describe it, I know Six Feet Under had its fans, and I thought you'd like to know the complete series will be released on DVD November 14. That's plenty of time to put it on your holiday gift list and to convince your family and loved ones it's worth spending around $280.00 on. My parents were actually fans of the series, and I have fond memories of watching it with them and having them tell me to shut the hell up and stop complaining about it while they were trying to enjoy it. I should really visit home more often, those memories don't make themselves.
