Conan O'Brien Officiates Gay Wedding for Staffer on 'Conan' (VIDEO)

by Laura Prudom, posted Nov 4th 2011 8:45AM
Conan officiates gay weddingIn case you hadn't heard, Conan O'Brien decided to "push the envelope" on late night TV last night, when he celebrated the one year anniversary of his TBS show by officiating the marriage between 'Conan' costume designer Scott Cronick and his partner David Gorshein.

The ceremony marked the end of O'Brien's visit to New York City, where the comedian hosted 'Late Night' on NBC for 16 years.

Apparently, Cronick and Gorshein were already planning to wed while the show was visiting New York, since gay marriage is still not legal in California, but instead of marrying at city hall, O'Brien suggested they perform the ceremony on stage at the Beacon Theater instead.

Conan O'Brien, 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon'In a surprise visit, Conan O'Brien stopped by his old studio during the taping of 'Late Night' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC). He took a moment to shoot the breeze with Jimmy Fallon, and even had a few kind words for Max -- Actually, he mistook Questlove for Max, but these things happen, right?

Really, he admitted he was there because he'd forgotten to take something with him when he left the studios for greener pastures. "You were here for 16 years," Fallon marveled at one point. "And then what happened?"

Louis C.K. Discusses 'Louie's' Success and His Dark Worldview on 'Conan' (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Aug 19th 2011 11:30AM
Season 2 of 'Louie' has pushed the boundaries of the type of comedy we're used to seeing on TV. The show is adept at finding the twisted hilarity in life's depressing situations: a bum getting hit by a truck, unrequited love, and reuniting with an old friend who's contemplating suicide have all served as fodder for the show's unique blend of drama and black humor.

Louis C.K. was on 'Conan' last night, and talked about 'Louie's' success, its two Emmy nominations, and his bleak, hilarious worldview that permeates the entire show.

"I don't expect any of it to keep going. You can't ... I think life is pretty ... I don't think it's so awful, I don't think you should expect anything to go well, but the only thing you really have coming to after you're born is death," he said, remaining stubbornly skeptical that his hard-won success can last.

Kathy Griffin Asked Michele Bachmann If She Was Born a Bigot or Grew Into One (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Aug 16th 2011 11:35AM
Kathy Griffin has made a living ripping on female Republican Presidential candidates. Okay, really just Sarah Palin, but she can now add Iowa Ames Straw Poll winner Michele Bachmann to her resume.

Griffin told an amazing story on 'Conan' about running into Bachmann at an event in Washington, D.C., when the comedienne was organizing a rally in support of 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' repeal for 'My Life on the D-List.' When she found herself riding an escalator with Bachmann, Griffin asked the Tea Partier if she'd support the rally for gay rights. Bachmann said, "I don't think so."

Weirdly, Bachmann's aide then pulled out a flip-cam to record the conversation for her website. Griffin couldn't resist, and followed up with a zinger: "Congresswoman Bachmann: Were you born a bigot or did you grow into it?"

Billy Bush and Kit Hoover Analyze the 'Lopez Tonight' Cancelation (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 11th 2011 5:20PM
George Lopez and 'Lopez Tonight' not renewed on 'Access Hollywood Live'If you're looking for well-researched, cogent analysis and conclusions concerning TBS's decision not to renew 'Lopez Tonight' for a third season, watching Billy Bush and Kit Hoover spitball theories on 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC) might not be what you're looking for. They showed a clip of George Lopez announcing the decision Wednesday night, and then hypothesized reasons it might have happened.

"So hey, did you guys see the news?" Lopez said on his show. "Unemployment is at an all-time high and for Latinos, it just got a little higher." Bush thought it might just be that TBS is a difficult station to find. He shouted out to the live audience to see who know what station it was. "I think it's a legitimate point," he said. "I think it's hard to find. I don't know, it's like two-fif- I really don't know. 252 maybe? Something like that?"

George Lopez, Conan O'Brien React to 'Lopez Tonight' Cancellation

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 11th 2011 10:45AM
Conan O'Brien, George LopezWhen TBS announced that Conan O'Brien would be taking over George Lopez's 11PM time slot for his new late night show last year, the first person to congratulate Coco on his new job was Lopez himself, whose 'Lopez Tonight' was pushed an hour later to midnight.

TBS announced yesterday that it had decided to cancel 'Lopez Tonight' instead of ordering a third season of the talk show, and Thursday's show will be the series finale. "TBS has reached the difficult decision not to order a third season of 'Lopez Tonight.' Thursday will be the final episode of the show," the network said in a statement.

Ever the comedian, Lopez told viewers on his show Wednesday night that he'll be okay ... sort of. "Like every TV star before me, I'mma find some crack. I'mma get on the pipe! Lose that unwanted 110 pounds I wanted to lose," he joked. "But I'm taking it good, I'm straight, believe me. I'm fine. My goddesses are a wreck."

Conan O'BrienConan O'Brien, one of the most beloved comics working right now, is a man of carefully crafted words.

The host of 'Conan' (weeknights, 11PM on TBS) gave the commencement address to Dartmouth's 2011 graduating class, and had much to wax poetic about. Still reeling from the 'Tonight Show' and NBC debacle, O'Brien was quick to impart his wisdom on the captivated crowd.

"Whatever doesn't kill you, makes you watch a lot of Cartoon Network and drink mid-price chardonnay at 11 in the morning," O'Brien said, referring to the NBC controversy.

The Miz, Genius Behind Conan's 'Ginja Ninja,' Claims Responsibility for 'Jersey Shore'

by Sandra Deane, posted Apr 3rd 2011 11:00AM
The Miz Stars on WWE WrestleMania 27It's been a decade since Mike "The Miz" Mizanin became a reality star on the 10th season of 'The Real World.' This Sunday he'll be defending his WWE championship at 'WrestleMania XXVII' (7PM ET, PPV). Wow, what a difference 10 years makes.

We got a chance to chat with The Miz earlier this week at a NYC 'WrestleMania' press event, where scores of fans invaded the Hard Rock Cafe to chant "awesome" in adoration.

Hot off the heels of his appearance on 'Conan' last week, where he dubbed the late night host "The Ginja Ninja," Miz explained why he felt Conan O'Brien needed a new nickname. "I didn't like Coco," he said. "Coco's not a good superstar name."

He then went on to claim responsibility for the 'Jersey Shore' phenomenon and dished how his fellow pro wrestlers compare to his former 'Real World' castmates.

Checking Up On Conan O'Brien

by Stephanie Earp, posted Feb 7th 2011 5:00PM

It was about a year ago that Conan O'Brien was basically ousted from his newly minted role as host of 'The Tonight Show.' For me, the whole incident is forever tied to the Vancouver Olympics, since as soon as the Games were over, we all knew that Jay 'Lantern Jaw' Leno would be back in his old seat at NBC.

Like many others, I supported O'Brien's cause. Looking back on it now, I realize I was incensed on behalf on my generation; Conan's plight was a vivid example of how we young folk labor for years under the promise of an eventual promotion, only to have it snatched away (or, at least, we feel like that's what happens). If NBC was truly bowing to audience pressure in reinstating Leno as host, it was a clear victory for the boomers in the intergenerational war.

Morgan followed up Stern's diatribe by asking him his opinion on what happened between Leno and Conan O'Brien at NBC.

Discovery's Michael Jackson Autopsy Special Raises Ire, Writer Aron Abrams Dies at 50 and More

by Chris Harnick, posted Dec 30th 2010 1:00PM
Michael JacksonDiscovery Communication's planned UK special, 'Michael Jackson: L'Autopsie,' has angered the co-executors of Michael Jackson's estate.

The European program set to air Jan. 13 will reportedly feature a recreation of Jackson's autopsy. According to the Wall Street Journal, Jackson estate co-executors John Branca and John McClain have called for Discovery to pull the special before broadcast.

"Your decision to even schedule this program is in shockingly bad taste, insensitive to Michael's family, and appears motivated solely by your blind desire to exploit Michael's death, while cynically attempting to dupe the public into believing this show will have some serious medical value," the two wrote in a letter to Discovery.
