ABC Renews 'Castle' for A New Season

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 31st 2010 10:03AM
nathan_fillion_castle_abcA week ago with 'Dancing With the Stars' returned for the current season, a new episode of 'Castle' aired afterwards and did something it had never done before. It beat 'CSI: Miami' in the ratings. Not a rerun of 'CSI: Miami.' No, it was a fresh, Horatio Cane dealing with his son episode. Now, normally, that's a slam dunk for CBS. However, 'Castle' took the hour.

This is all a way to explain the following: ABC has renewed 'Castle' for another season. ABC is not just jumping on a strong pairing of 'Dancing' and 'Castle,' because you can't count on that always being the best draw of a Monday night.

Jesse Cardoza Gets an Apology on 'CSI: Miami' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 2nd 2010 2:30AM
CSI: Miami, Eddie CibrianIt's not often a guy gets an apology from a public official. But that's just what Jesse Cardoza receives from the LAPD on 'CSI: Miami' (Mon, 10PM ET on CBS). And at a public news conference, too.

And we really need to see more of Paul Blackthorne. Let's get him his own show, rather than here-and-there guest spots on this show, 'Leverage' and 'Burn Notice.' Any casting directors out there listening?

Watch the video after the jump.

Fans Can Investigate 'CSI' at MGM Grand Las Vegas

by John Scott Lewinski, posted Feb 28th 2010 3:14PM
You get to inspect the crime scene at MGM Grand Las Vegas' CSI: The Experience.Fans of the original 'CSI' can try their hand at solving a murder right in the middle of the massive MGM Grand Las Vegas.

'CSI: The Experience' offers visitors families (and other visitors looking to escape the constant "dinging" and "blooping" of slot machines) a chance to follow a simulated murder case from the initial crime scene to a selection of the most likely suspect.

While the attraction's designers struggled in vain to make it a compelling and vibrant way to kill an hour or so, the exhibit is essentially a course in basic forensic science and observation.

On a recent trip to Vegas and the MGM on business, I decided to scoop up my magnifying glass (which I always take with me on vacation) and give it a try.

by Bryan Enk, posted Jan 14th 2010 10:30AM
From grey Haddonfield in 'Halloween II' to sunny Miami ... the weather's getting better for Rob Zombie!

The Hollywood Reporter brings news that the man behind 'The Devil's Rejects,' two 'Halloween' films and several of his own music videos will bring his nightmarish vision to an upcoming episode of 'CSI: Miami.' Zombie's knack for portraying the dark underbelly of American life -- and the strange and often dangerous citizens that dwell therein -- is perfect for 'CSI,' and we're sure the director will provide a unique spin on the show's familiar elements of bizarre crime and cultural tension.

The question is: What will best play to Rob Zombie's strengths on 'CSI: Miami?' Here are five possible plot lines for Zombie's episode:

CBS breaking out line of grown-up TV video games

by John Scott Lewinski, posted Nov 10th 2009 3:04PM
The ghost of Paul Lynde can soon play the iPhone game of Hollywood Squares. The term "adult video games" sounds admittedly dirty, so we'll steer clear of that and call CBS Consumer Products' upcoming line of TV series-based titles "grown up."

CBS announced in a press release that they're breaking out a line of games related to hit shows that aren't exactly on the kids' radars -- what with their rock n' roll and their Hula-Hoops and their "Beavis and Buttheads." You'd expect to see console or computer games based on The Clone Wars or Battlestar Galatica, but Diagnosis: Murder and Hollywood Squares? What would Paul Lynde say?

But, those latter two shows are on the list, with a PC & Mac game heading our way in 2010 for Diagnosis and an iPod Touch and iPhone game of Squares coming next year.

Jorja Fox on CSIThe latest puzzler for the 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation': How to stop a ratings slide that began with William Petersen's departure last season and has continued into a new season, during which the granddaddy of forensic procedural dramas has lost its crown as TV's top-rated scripted series to 'NCIS'? Laurence Fishburne to do three-part CSI crossover

by Allison Waldman, posted Oct 13th 2009 10:08PM
laurence_fishburne_csiGenerally speaking, the CSI franchise has been a ratings juggernaut for CBS. Still, this season the original CSI has been declining a bit. It started last season when Laurence Fishburne took on the role of Dr. Ray Langston, becoming the main man on the show with William Petersen exiting.

Well, in an effort to perhaps pump up Fishburne's popularity, CBS is doing something unique. For the first time, a CSI character -- Langston -- will crossover to the other two shows in the same week, all part of the same story.

Will it work? Probably. Crossover stunts are always fun and it'll give viewers who watch one of the CSI's or two, to sample the other. That's not as weird as it sounds. I only watch CSI, not NY or Miami.

Better Viewing Through Technology

by Stephanie Earp, posted Oct 6th 2009 11:00PM

I have a confession to make. Last week, I got satellite TV.

Yeah, you read it right. Last week.

Before that, I was subsisting on what my antenna and my wireless internet could bring into the house, and running up a large bill at the local video store. (Seriously - it's what some people spend on groceries.) And I call myself a TV columnist. What a fraud.

Here's the truth about me - I'm cheap. I'll spend hundreds of dollars on a handbag (or DVD rentals), but I've always balked at the monthly fees for a decent cable or satellite package. Because that's the catch, right? Satellite isn't all that expensive, but good satellite costs a fortune, with all those picky packages. If I want to watch 'Dexter' as it airs, I'd have to get pregnant, make sure it was a boy, gestate for nine months, and then hand him over. Am I right, people?

No, no, please, not a Criminal Minds spinoff

Oh, no. Please. CBS, please don't. I know it's tempting when you see the NCIS: LA ratings -- number two for last week, topped only by NCIS! -- but please, refrain. What am I talking about? CBS is pushing a spinoff of Criminal Minds, asking the show's executive producer Ed Bernero and executive producer Chris Mundy to come up with a variation on Criminal Minds. Hmm... Criminal Minds 2.0? Son of Criminal Minds? Criminal Guts?
