Dana Delany Flushes the Toilet for Good Luck (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 5th 2011 5:20PM
Dana Delany on 'The Talk'Dana Delany explained today on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) that she is heir to a very particular throne -- that of Delany Flush Valves. Her great grandfather invented an improvement to the chain flushing system popular at the time, and the company he created is still around. It didn't make the Delany family rich, as Leah Remini thought, but it did provide Dana Delany, who currently stars on 'Body of Proof,' an interesting good luck charm.

"In New York, especially at the ABC building, which I'm still on," she explained, "there was Delany Flush Valves in the building, and so before I had an audition for, like, 'One Life to Live' or 'All My Children,' I would go in there and flush the toilet for good luck."

There's a metaphor for making it in television in there somewhere. We'll leave you to come up with your own details.

Dana Delany Wonders What Hugh Hefner's Fiancee Was Thinking at 'DWTS' Taping (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 4th 2011 4:50PM
Dana Delany on 'The Wendy Williams Show'Dana Delany and Wendy Williams have been crossing paths often lately. Delany was on 'The Wendy Williams Show' (weekdays, syndicated) today, but she also watched Williams dance in the audience of 'Dancing With the Stars,' where she was seated next to Hugh Hefner. Delany, now promoting her own new show, 'Body of Proof,' admitted that she got a little distracted by Hefner's fiancee when the cameras shifted to her on 'DWTS.'

Hefner's fiancée, Crystal Harris, is 24, and Hefner is 84, which led Delany to wonder what Harris's inner dialogue must have been. "I'm going like this, 'OK, so what is she thinking?'" Delany told Williams. While that little May-December theater piece was running through Delany's head, the cameras at 'DWTS' swung to her, catching her looking at Hefner and Harris.

Delany said she had to be prompted before she waved. But at least no one knew what she was thinking. At least until she said it.

'Body of Proof' Premiere: Dr. Hunt (Dana Delany) Has Major Attitude (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Mar 30th 2011 5:00AM
Dana Delany in 'Body of Proof' PremiereIn the premiere of 'Body of Proof' (Tue., 10PM ET on ABC), Dr. Megan Hunt (Dana Delany) shows that her superior skills as a medical examiner come with a side of attitude.

As she examines a murdered woman's body, a detective gets impatient with her meticulous process. "She got her head bashed in! Can we get to the murder weapon already?"

"What do you see?" she asks him. He replies, "A dead girl."

Hunt, on the other hand, wonders whether her level of fitness points to a boyfriend and whether signs of stress point to big problems at work. "The answers are all here. The body is the proof: It will tell you everything you need to know if you just have the patience to look."

And to prove that she isn't stalling and has the information he needs, she confidently rattles off specifics on the murder weapon -- and then orders him to get her coffee.

Review: Dana Delany Tries to Liven Up 'Body of Proof'

by Maureen Ryan, posted Mar 29th 2011 2:45PM
You know those promotional logos that networks sometimes put in a corner of the television screen?

They're highly annoying, but in the interest of clarity and/or honesty, perhaps ABC should consider putting the words "You are stupid" on the screen whenever it airs 'Body of Proof."

The "you" would refer to viewers, who, as far as 'Body of Proof' is concerned, can't be trusted to figure out or infer anything on their own. There's no such thing as subtext or subtlety when it comes to this 'House' meets 'CSI' hybrid, which stars Dana Delany as a cranky medical examiner who investigates murders.

It was pretty dumb when ABC superimposed a countdown clock for the premiere of 'V' on an episode of 'Lost' a couple years ago, but it's even dumber that the network that brought us that captivating, complicated island drama doesn't trust its audience's intelligence, not even a little bit.

'Body of Proof' Set Visit: Stars Talk Pig Lungs, Pranks & No-Nonsense Women

by Chris Harnick, posted Mar 28th 2011 12:45PM
Dana DelanyFewer things are less forgiving than a New England winter. Luckily, the cast and crew of 'Body of Proof' are a bunch of champs -- after the show's previously announced fall premiere date was taken away, the cast and crew had to film the entire 13-episode first season in a very cold Rhode Island bubble.

TV Squad hit the Providence, Rhode Island set in December to find out what sets 'Body of Proof,' which now premieres Tues., March 29 at 10PM, apart from other procedural shows (think girl power!). The cast also talked about the joys of playing with blood and guts, and of course, working with the one and only Dana Delany.

Delany herself said the the blood, guts and general "body stuff" is one of the best parts about working on the medical examiner drama.

"I think that's the most fun for me, learning stuff about the body that I never knew before," Delany said. "Diseases, things that could kill you, stuff like that I find fascinating.

"One scene we had a buzzsaw where I got to cut into a cranium. We have great special effects -- I hope people who are offended by that stuff won't be bothered, but it's really interesting stuff," she said.

Dana Delany Talks Autopsies, Nathan Fillion & 'Body of Proof' (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Mar 17th 2011 9:00AM
Dana Delany, 'Body of Proof'Dana Delany is returning to TV -- finally! -- as a surgeon-turned-medical examiner with a prickly 'House'-like personality in 'Body of Proof' (premieres Tues., Mar. 29, 10PM ET on ABC).

To be fair to her character, Dr. Megan Hunt, you would be cranky too if a car accident took away your ability to do what you love. But Delany seems to really enjoy her new license to snark: "It's finding that fine line between being a good doctor and also being a snarky, cranky person. You don't want to be too much of either."

To prep for the role (and sharing a lot of screentime with corpses), the veteran actress observed several autopsies -- and loved it. "You can get addicted to watching autopsies," Delany said. "It makes you appreciate the human body -- this miracle that we're given, and how it's our job to take care of it. And the fact that it all works so perfectly together is just amazing."

ABC Moves 'Body of Proof' to Midseason

by Chris Harnick, posted Oct 11th 2010 1:05PM
Dana DelanyFans of Dana Delany, there's no need to panic. 'Body of Proof' will come out -- just not as soon as originally thought.

According to Variety, the ABC medical examiner series that was to debut at 9PM on Fridays this fall has been pushed to midseason. The reason? ABC wants to give it a chance in a better timeslot.

ABC plans to give the series a healthy marketing plan prior to launch. You know, like they gave the now-cancelled 'My Generation.' (Those billboards and public transportation ads are still up, by the way.)

Pilot Watch: 'Body of Proof'

by Joel Keller, posted Aug 14th 2010 2:00PM
The cast of 'Body of Proof' on ABC
In our continuing effort to get you ready for the upcoming fall season, we're previewing pilots that were sent to critics earlier this summer.

Keep in mind that in each case, our opinions are based on a pilot that could be completely recast and reworked between now and the fall. Some of those changes have already been announced.

Show: 'Body of Proof'
Network: ABC
Timeslot: Fridays, 9PM ET

The lowdown:
Four years after a horrific auto accident derailed her career, neurosurgeon Megan Hunt (Dana Delany) has found a new role in the Philadelphia medical examiner's office. Tough and driven, she's always put her career first, which is why she is divorced and not a big part of her daughter's life. But in her new role, she's determined to let the body she's examining tell the entire story of how that person died, much to the annoyance of the cops she works with. She's constantly being told where her boundaries are by her partner, investigator Peter Dunlop (Nicholas Bishop), a former cop. Her boss, De. Kate Murphy (Jeri Ryan) tries to keep Hunt in line while admiring her new hire's determination and the fact that she gets results.

Dana Delany Moves From Wisteria Lane to the Morgue

by Bryan Reesman, posted Jun 30th 2010 7:30PM
Dana DelanyNow that 'Desperate Housewives' has rejuvenated her television career, Emmy-winning actress Dana Delany will be starring in the new ABC procedural drama 'Body of Proof', which promises to be one of the top contenders of the fall season.

In the series, she plays neurosurgeon-turned-medical examiner Dr. Megan Hunt, a charming yet snarky individual who she likens herself to be the female version of House. The dramatic pilot balances her professional cases with her private travails, including reconnecting with her estranged daughter.

But does this dynamic role mean the end of her run on 'Desperate Housewives'? At the end of last season, Katherine Mayfair (Delany) and reformed stripper Robin Gallagher (Julie Benz) were off to Paris for a romantic vacation. Since Delany and Benz both have new ABC series in the fall, their characters' fates are up in the air.

With burning questions in hand, TV Squad caught up with Delany at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival to get the lowdown on her new show and her possible 'Housewives' future.

ABC Picks Up 'Off the Map,' 'Body of Proof'

by Andrew Scott, posted May 14th 2010 4:50PM
Shonda RhimesABC has put another medical series from Shonda Rhimes on the map, while making room for a new series starring 'Desperate Housewives'' Dana Delany.

According to the Live Feed, ABC has picked up 'Off the Map,' about a trio of medical doctors who set up shop on a remote tropical island. Enrique Murciano ('Without a Trace'), Jason George ('Grey's Anatomy') and Martin Henderson star.

Also getting picked up today is the Dana Delany vehicle 'Body of Proof.' In it, Delany will play a medical examiner who solves crimes based on her background as a neurosurgeon. Unfortunately, her unique ways of going about business clash everyone who crosses her path. (Think 'CSI' meets 'House.')

Today's news caps off a busy week for ABC. For more on the network's renewals and cancellations, click here.

'Desperate Housewives' - 'We All Deserve to Die' Recap

by Isabelle Carreau, posted Apr 18th 2010 11:11PM
Desperate Housewives(S06E19) "Sometimes ... we let it in." - Mary Alice about "Evil"

After months without mentioning the strangler storyline, 'Desperate Housewives' finally let "Evil" back in and treated us not only with hints and, sadly, a new killing, but also with the identity of the culprit!!!

We first saw the person in the second episode of the season. My immediate instinct was that the strangled was a young man with whom Julie may have had a complicated "thing" with and that I didn't think it was Julie's ex (played by Steven Weber). In comments TV Squad readers left to my review of that episode, most fingers were pointed at Danny, McCluskey, Ana, Angie, Roy, and Katherine. Of course, as more episodes aired, people were added to the list while others were removed. Did you guess right? The answer coming up!

Nathan Fillion Fires a Gun on 'Castle' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 30th 2010 2:03AM
Castle, Boom, Nathan FillionThere were a few high points in this week's 'Castle' (Mon., 10PM ET on ABC). Not only did Beckett survive her apartment blowing to smithereens last week, but she also nabbed the killer and saved Agent Shaw.

But our favorite part was seeing Castle actually fire a gun AND shoot the bad guy's gun out of his freakin' hand. Wonder if he'll want more of that adrenaline rush, now that he's had a taste of it.

Watch the video after the jump.

'Castle' - 'Boom!' Recap

As much as this episode veered into "bad buddy cop movie" territory several times, it was definitely a fun hour of television. In fact, after watching last week's episode, and now this, I could definitely see 'Castle' spawning a successful made-for-TV-movie franchise at some point. This storyline was a perfectly-contained movie, and it goes to further prove what the actual 'Heat Wave' novel showed us: these characters can thrive in stand-alone stories.

As Jane mentioned last week, Dana Delany is great as Agent Shaw, and I loved seeing her outside of her increasingly ridiculous role on 'Desperate Housewives,' although it was nice to see her and her 'DH' hubby, Nathan Fillion, reunited -- especially because I'm pretty sure it was more his role on that show, and less his cult status from 'Firefly' that got Fillion the 'Castle' gig in the first place.

'Castle' - 'Tick, Tick, Tick...' Recap

Castle: Tick Tick Tick(S02E17) "There's an app for that?" - Castle to Jordan Shaw, on her fingerprint app

Tonight's episode of 'Castle' was the first of a two-parter, and some pretty big stuff happened. If you haven't seen it yet, I'll wait til after the jump to talk about the major spoilers.

One thing I can talk about before the jump is Dana Delany. It was really awesome to see her in a meatier role than her 'Desperate Housewives' character. Ever since 'China Beach,' I've been waiting for her to get a really good role and hopefully, her new ABC pilot 'Body of Evidence' will be just that.

I know she's had plenty of roles since 'China,' but nothing that's equaled it in my mind. What can I say? I live in the past. She also played Magnum's girlfriend, so there.
