'SNL' Scorecard: Did Charlie Day Have a Great Saturday Night?

by Mike Ryan, posted Nov 6th 2011 10:25AM

Well, what a difference a couple weeks off can make. Charlie Day lent his manic persona to a show that started slowly (the cold open was immediately forgettable) became worse (I wonder how many people switched off their televisions during the 'Dr. Oz' sketch), then found itself in a zone that, for the most part, built momentum as the show continued – thanks mostly to the chemistry between Day and Jason Sudeikis. Even Seth Meyers, who has often looked bored so far this season, hosted 'Update' with an aplomb that I was starting to forget existed (and having Hader visit as a drunk Rick Perry sure helped, too). There is hope! At least I have hope! Off to what just may be the first happier than not scorecard of the season...

Danny DeVito Brings 'Always Sunny's' Gutter Humor to 'The View' (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Sep 20th 2011 7:00PM
Danny DeVito is the elder statesman of the 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' cast, but that doesn't mean he's a beacon of maturity. DeVito stopped by 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) where he talked about the new, depraved 'Sunny' season and gave some Joy and Sherri some equally crass advice on how to make a marriage work.

To start the segment, they showed a clip from the 'Sunny' premiere, in which Frank asked a hooker to marry him, only to see her die of a crack overdose seconds later. "In the seven seasons we've been doing the show, we bring the bar down as low as we can. If you think you're in the gutter, we're gonna excavate that gutter. But we have a lot of fun," he said.

Danny DeVito Shows Off His New Look on 'The Late Late Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 15th 2011 6:00AM
Danny DeVito, 'The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson'Ever since he became famous on 'Taxi' more than 30 years ago, Danny DeVito has pretty much looked the same. But now he's sporting a brand new look, which he showed off on 'The Late Late Show' (Weeknights, 12:30AM ET on CBS).

"I just cut it all off and made it blonde," he explained. "There was a 'Vanity Fair' years ago with Marilyn Monroe on it, and I said to the hairdresser, 'Give me that!'"

Of course, with DeVito's horseshoe-pattern baldness, it's a far cry from Marilyn Monroe's flowing locks, but that isn't to say the blonde isn't noticeable. What was funnier was how excited he was about his new look. He even bought new glasses to match his lighter shade. Clearly, blondes do have more fun!

The 'It's Always Sunny' Gang Talks Prostitutes, Pageants & Season 7 (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Sep 9th 2011 1:45PM
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' is back for a seventh season (premieres Thurs., Sept. 15, 10PM ET on FX), and judging by what the cast revealed when I visited the set, the gang is all in fine 'Sunny' form.

"This is like, without a doubt, the craziest season," Danny DeVito said. "Danny brought it all in," Rob McElhenney noted. "And he's devolved over the last few years on a personal level, and so we've taken advantage of that and put that in the show."

The season premiere features their version of 'Pretty Woman,' which is much more grounded in reality. "Julia Roberts would only look like Julia Roberts for a very short period of time on the streets before looking like Julio Roberts," Glenn Howerton said. Charlie Day chimed in, "Someone would've cut that b*tch!"

Then there's a 'Toddlers & Tiaras'-inspired kids beauty pageant that the cast had a lot of fun with. "It's one of my favorites," Kaitlin Olson admitted. "Dee's really into it, which is always so fun for me, when she's super into something." "Put a five year old in some WOW! Wear, and it just says America," Day added.

Danny DeVito Talks Horses, Dances in Horse Costume on 'Late Late' (VIDEO)

Danny DeVito Dances in Horse Costume on 'Late Late'Before Danny DeVito hit the stage of 'The Late Late Show' (weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS), he gave Craig Ferguson a list of topics he'd be forbidden to bring up. Obviously, by reading the list aloud, the host mentioned them all, and DeVito even elaborated on a couple (like wife Rhea Perlman getting her knee replaced).

DeVito also had a list of permitted subjects -- but only "horse meat" was on it. DeVito said he'd started a business selling the stuff, from his car.

Ferguson refused to promote DeVito's latest scheme on the show, especially since last time he was hawking a race horse. (Get it?) DeVito then approached the stage in a horse costume and danced with the host. Quite an odd entrance.

Chelsea Handler Is Looking for a Short Australian Dude (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Oct 26th 2010 3:06AM
Chelsea Handler Is Looking for a Short Australian DudeOn the latest 'Chelsea Lately' (weeknights, 11PM ET on E!) host Chelsea Handler revealed what she was looking for in a man. Although Chelsea is rumored to be currently dating rapper 50 Cent, her description of an ideal mate was slightly different from her current supposed "partner."

Handler welcomed guest Julian McMahon onto her show. And she seemed a bit smitten with the Australian actor. McMahon discussed his appearance in an upcoming charity performance of 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show.' Among his co-stars are cast members from 'Glee,' and actor Danny DeVito. When DeVito's name was mentioned, Chelsea seemed to perk up. "I like that little 'nugget,'" she said.

Before He Was Famous, Danny DeVito Cut Dead People's Hair (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 16th 2010 4:00AM
Before He Was Famous, Danny DeVito Cut Dead People's HairDanny DeVito doesn't have much hair left these days. We wouldn't go so far as to call him completely bald, but ... he's definitely not even really capable of doing the "comb-over" anymore. So it might surprise you to learn that his first training came not as an actor, but as a hairstylist.

Yes, after high school, DeVito worked at his sister's beauty salon. In fact, the only reason that he ever started taking acting classes was because he attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. But he originally went to that school to study cosmetology. While at the Academy, he was bitten by the acting bug, and -- well, the rest we know. DeVito went on to star in such films as 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' and also the TV series 'Taxi,' and never looked back from there.

Danny Devito Talks Nude Scene and His 'Ding-a-Ling' on 'The View' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Sep 10th 2010 3:30PM
At first, Danny Devito was excited by the prospect of a doing a nude scene in 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.' But, the realities of acting in the buff, such as a room full of actors and crew, and the need to physically "corral" his "monster" soon dampened his spirit, he said on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated).

The 'It's Always Sunny' Gang Talks Babies, Balls on Fire and Tom Sizemore (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Aug 25th 2010 10:00AM
It's Always Sunny in PhiladelphiaNow that we've all been entertained by the screenwriting talents of Charlie and Mac, witnessed Dennis and Dee explore the worst parts of dating with the D.E.N.N.I.S. System and seen Frank's naked body, what's next for the 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' gang?

Two words: Tom Sizemore.

I caught up with Glenn Howerton, Danny DeVito, Kaitlin Olson and Rob McElhenney to find out about the new season (premieres Thurs., Sept. 16, 10PM ET on FX) and got an earful about Hollywood bad boy Sizemore and his awesomely twisted turn on the show.

We also talked babies (Olson and McElhenney are expecting their first child, a girl, any day now) and, of course, the best ways to get them tanned and camera-ready (see "The Gang Finds a Dumpster Baby" if you don't get the joke). Then we touched on what's got DeVito's balls on fire, how many more seasons the show will go and why we do or don't -- there are conflicting opinions on this -- want to see a 50-year-old Sweet Dee.

Danny DeVito Likes Drinking, Basketball ... and Pot (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jun 17th 2010 11:00PM
Danny DeVito Likes Drinking, Basketball ... and PotWhat do guys like? Well, according to actor Danny DeVito, they enjoy "basketball," "gore," they like to "drink a lot" -- and then they enjoy marijuana. Yeah. That sounds about right, more or less.

On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night' (Thu., 8PM ET on ABC), DeVito discusses these burning issues. He points out that in November, the state of California may end up legalizing "something." (Hint: it's pot.) And DeVito seems pretty excited by the possibility of this.

But host Jimmy Kimmel chooses to believe that Danny is excited by the possibility of legalizing gay marriage. So he gets down on one knee and proposes to DeVito. ... Oh, Jimmy. You and Danny DeVito -- it's just never going to happen. You're just going to have to deal with that fact and move on.

Review: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - The Gang Reignites the Rivalry (season finale)

Well, that's it for season five of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It would have been foolish to expect something mind-blowing this week, because, as usual, the show didn't go out with a bang or any nail-biting cliffhanger. Instead, there were people vomiting, naked chicks in blacklight paint, beer, and lots of screaming. Just another day for the owners of Paddy's Pub.

Review: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Mac and Charlie Write a Movie

I think we all need to take a hot second to review what fantastic, life-improving ideas this season has presented us thus far. Earlier, we learned the benefits of funneling box wine into soda cans (beyond the immediate high class appeal of it all). Then we were schooled in the ways of the DENNIS System, allowing us to more efficiently get ladies to bang. And in this episode, we learned that keeping sausage links in your shirt pocket is a smart way to keep your hands free and open to get greasy in other ways.

This is all shaping up to be a fine education, folks. I think it goes without saying that It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is Sesame Street for adults.

Review: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - The DENNIS System

always sunny dennis system
A weird thing has been happening this season, where I find myself really appreciating what the writers have been doing with the gang but I'm not laughing nearly as much as I should. This episode was a prime example of that. Dennis is notorious for his way with women, so hearing a full breakdown of the DENNIS System should have been a complete riot (a riot with cringing, sure). I smiled at certain parts and quietly enjoyed the scary-elaborate ways of Dennis and the rest of the gang, though ultimately, the laughs fell short. Perhaps things are feeling a little forced this season?

Trust in the douchiness of your characters and the chemistry of your actors, writers! The lines will come.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Christmas Special rolls out red carpet

by John Scott Lewinski, posted Nov 15th 2009 9:05AM
A Very Sunny Christmas brings up the yuletide cast of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The cast of the FX sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia gathered a stone's throw from Beverly Hills this week to celebrate the release of the show's new Christmas special.

A Very Sunny Christmas arrives on Blu-ray and DVD November 17 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Fox teamed with Maxim Magazine to hold a festive bash last Thursday night at Guys and Dolls Lounge in the shadow of Cedar Sinai Hospital on Beverly Blvd. (Event gallery below.)

A modest red carpet set-up gathered a cramped collection of reporters and photographers together to greet the arrivals of show stars Danny DeVito, Kaitlin Olson, Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day.

As if looking to mimic the bleak Philadelphia winter, rain sprinkled the LA streets in the hours leading up to the event -- and temperatures hovering in the low 50s made it a goose bumpy night for the several cocktail dress-clad ladies mingling in the crowd.

(S05E09) Well. This episode was certainly successful in further quelling the doubts of any audience members that are still, for whatever reason, unconvinced that all the guys from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia are actually super-gay for each other. Yeah, not just "gay" but "super-gay." Considering the adorable, almost symbiotic nature of the guys' relationships, I would probably just refer to them as "hetero lifemates," but Frank and Charlie play Nightcrawlers and we all know what happened onstage between Dayman and Nightman in "The Nightman Cometh." Don't fight it.
