Inspired by Bob's recent post, I thought I'd share a commercial I can't stand that's all over the dial right now. The Dell "Lollipop" computer.

I don't think Dell had in mind that people like me would find its new Inspiron laptops commercial like nails on a chalkboard. However, every time I hear that pop followed by the singing laborers crooning a version of the 1958 Chordettes hit "Lollipop," I'm compelled to grab the remote and change the channel.

Go pink! Go red! Help fight breast cancer! End world hunger! I don't really know what program this "Go Red" thing that Dell is promoting supports [edited: It's AIDS fundraising]. I suppose if I were curious enough, I could go to Dell's website and find out, because that is what this commercial hopes I will do. And maybe while I'm there, I will buy a red laptop! From Dell! Because this guy got a really hot blonde to kiss him and everybody was dancing in the streets because he dressed up like the Mac Guy and walked around with his laptop [PUT IT IN A CASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!] on the street.

But I am not going to go to Dell and find out what the Go Red means, because if I do, my new Mac will be offended.

Alienware has launched its Hangar18 line of high end home theater PCs. Looks like we were off a few months on the timing, and about $1000 on the pricing when we first told you about Alienware's newest HTPCs last year.

The Hanger18 machines come loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core processores, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, and integrated NVIDIA graphics with support for 720p or 1080p HDMI out, as well as VGA, S-Video and analog outputs.

You'll also get a dual analog/HDTV tuner, and support for up to 4 tuners total. The base unit ships with 250GB of storage, but supports a max of 2TB. And of course there's all the usual goodies like 802.11b/g, firewire, and USB support. There's also an integrated 4-in-1 flash memory card reader.

Hangar18 units start at $1999, but you can easily trick this puppy out to eat a much larger chunk of your life's savings.
