'Rescue Me' Series Finale Brings Laughs, Tears and Closure (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 8th 2011 1:46AM
After seven seasons, it was the end of the journey for Tommy Gavin on 'Rescue Me' (Wed., 10PM ET on FX).

It's hard to say if it's a great ending or a disappointing ending, but a lot of that depends on your expectations going in. I would say it is definitely a satisfactory ending and, more importantly, a consistent ending.

'Rescue Me' has always been about dark humor, guys being the idiots that guys can be, and moments of danger, violence and occasional poignancy. In that, this finale delivered by being absolutely consistent with what this show has always been about.

Did Denis Leary Say Too Much About the 'Rescue Me' Finale on 'Late Night'? (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 7th 2011 7:16AM
Denis Leary, 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon'Denis Leary was talking about the emotions behind the final day of shooting for 'Rescue Me' on 'Late Night' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC), when he may have inadvertently let loose with a hint about the series finale.

"The final scene that we shot, without giving anything away, is a funeral scene," he said. That this scene exists has been seen already in previews for the finale, airing Wednesday at 10PM ET on FX. It's the next line that may be telling. Leary concluded his thought, "I was off-camera that day."

Read into it what you will, but it could be a hint that Tommy Gavin may not survive the series. Or it could just be that he didn't go to this particular funeral for whatever reason, or that maybe they just scheduled shooting so that Leary wouldn't have to be in front of the camera on the last day of shooting.

Denis Leary Opens Up About Being Sexually Assaulted by His Dog (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 17th 2011 3:19AM
Denis Leary, 'Chelsea Lately'Denis Leary may have gotten a little too friendly with his dog. His dog definitely got too friendly with him in a story he related on 'Chelsea Lately' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on E!). He suspected it might have to do with how he talks to the dog, while Chelsea Handler seemed more concerned with what he wore -- or didn't wear -- to the pool.

Leary explained that he talks to his dog the way you normally talk to an adult, and in their conversations, he often told the pooch how handsome he was. Leary suspects that may be why he was sexually assaulted by the dog poolside.

Anyone who's ever owned a dog knows this is the price we can pay sometimes for their love and companionship. Natural instincts take over and you can find yourself awkwardly assault and compromised. Leary has a big dog, so it was particularly distressing.

Denis Leary Is Trying Really Hard Not to Spoil 'Rescue Me' and 'Amazing Spider-Man' (VIDEO)

Denis Leary talks 'Rescue Me' and 'The Amazing Spider-Man' on 'Access Hollywood Live'If this Denis Leary's interview on 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC) is any indication, it's going to be pretty entertaining to watch him do press for the final season of 'Rescue Me,' and next year's 'The Amazing Spider-Man.' 'Rescue Me' ends with its series finale on September 6, but 'Spider-Man,' in which Leary plays Captain George Stacy, father of Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy, doesn't come out until next summer. Leary tried so hard not to give away details about either project to Billy Bush that the interview turned into a miniature stand-up bit.

'Rescue Me' Season Premiere: Tommy Shoots Up a Bar (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 14th 2011 6:09AM
'Rescue Me' - 'Mutha'The final season of 'Rescue Me' (Wed., 10PM ET on FX) kicked off in explosive fashion. After a five month jump, we're treated to almost a full hour where it seems like almost everyone is going to be happy and smiling.

Sheila and Janet are getting along like best girlfriends. We were convinced Sheila's advice about Janet not wanting sex during this pregnancy was some kind of scheme, but she was right on the money. How long can we really trust her, though? With that history, come on!

Everything was going well at the fire house -- hell, there weren't even any fires! -- and Black Shawn was ready to pop the question to Colleen. The only potential wrinkle was when Tommy found out Colleen was working at a bar; not the best idea for a recovering alcoholic.

Denis Leary Angles for a Cut of Bethenny Frankel's 'Skinnygirl' Millions on 'The View' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 12th 2011 6:00PM
Denis Leary wants some of Bethenny Frankel's Skinnygirl money on 'The View'Before she was a 'Real Housewife of New York City' or a millionaire entrepreneur, Bethenny Frankel was a cook for the show 'Rescue Me.' Tuesday on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC), 'Rescue Me' star Denis Leary and Frankel were reunited, and Leary reminded her of a particular nickname he thinks gives him a claim to a slice of Frankel's "Skinnygirl" cocktail empire, which she sold for $120 million in April.

"I want a cut on the 120 million," said Leary. "First of all, I always talk about myself, and you probably remember this, I used to refer to myself as 'The Skinny Bitch.' That's my nickname for myself. Okay?" No dice. Frankel reminded him her imprint is Skinnygirl, not bitch. Leary said he'd settle for just a million.

Denis Leary Jokes on 'The Late Late Show'Leave it to Denis Leary and Craig Ferguson to turn a conversation about aging into some ideas for a dirty Christmas card. On 'The Late Late Show' (weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS), the host complimented Leary on his youthful haircut.

That progressed into the actor/comedian joking that he shoots Botox "all over" his body including into his scrotum. "I have the testicles of a 5-year-old," joked Leary.

Ferguson then contemplated the photo opportunities that might create. Leary ran with it, advising Ferguson on a Christmas-card photo of his penis in a Santa hat, with a drawn-on face. "We're working with limited space here," joked the host.

Denis Leary Talks Abby Sunderland on 'Late Night'Kids have it too easy these days, if you ask Denis Leary. His daughter and son have trophies and ribbons from every sporting league they've every been in -- just for being involved.

The actor told Jimmy Fallon on 'Late Night' ( weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC), "Now it's like, you suck, you get a trophy ... I encourage my kids to have dreams and to achieve them, but I do also believe, like with the trophies, there are certain things parents are in charge of. Like this is the land of dreams, but if your dreams are stupid, we should cut them off at the knees."

He cited Abby Sunderland -- the 16-year-old who attempted to sail around the world on her own -- as an example. Check out what he said his dad would have done if Leary needed to be rescued from the Indian Ocean.

Some Drunken Cross-Dressing on 'Rescue Me'There's a pretty bad hangover taking place on 'Rescue Me' (Tue., 10PM ET on FX). Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary) goes out and gets drunk, which is nothing unusual for him, these days. But in addition to the standard drinking, Tommy also swigs from a bottle of spiked whiskey that his relatives gave him. And that gets Tommy really messed up.

[Spoiler alert.]

In fact, Tommy ends up blacking out, and then can't remember what he did the night before. He wakes up and finds that there is sand and a pair of earrings in his pockets. And he's also wearing a woman's thong. Hmm. Mysterious!

Batting Practice for Letterman, Leary, Albert PujolsDavid Letterman literally stepped up to the plate with 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) guests Denis Leary and baseball slugger Albert Pujols.

"You and I and Albert Pujols will be out on 53rd Street and, if you don't mind pitching, we're gonna take a little batting practice," Letterman told Leary.

The actor said that pitching would be "a thrill. But I saw the little protective thing you have for the pitcher -- doesn't look very protective."

But he obliged for Team Late Show. Letterman went to bat first and didn't do too badly. But of course, the nine-time All-Star and three-time MVP was better. "I thought you were pitching," Pujols said to Letterman. The host threw him a couple from the side.
