Dot-Marie Jones Will Roshambo for the Emmy (VIDEO)
by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 23rd 2011 4:30PM
Dot-Marie Jones's Coach Beiste is perhaps the only person in the 'Glee' universe who could go toe-to-toe with Jane Lynch's Sue Sylvester. For that fortitude and charisma, she was rewarded with an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress.Tuesday, 'Good Day LA' (weekdays, 9AM PT on FOX) anchor Tony McEwing got a glimpse of how intimidating Jones can be when he mispronounced her character's name (it's pronounced like "beast," but McEwing said "beasty").
McEwing immediately apologized, and asked her to be gentle. "I'm always gentle," she said, "for a minute." He also noticed she had a broken foot. "I broke a bone because somebody wasn't gentle, Tony," said Jones.

Sara Gilbert and Holly Robinson Peete Get Arm Wrestling Tips From 'Glee's' Dot-Marie Jones (VIDEO)
by Nick Zaino, posted Feb 4th 2011 7:30PM
Before she was football coach Shannon Beiste on 'Glee,' Dot-Marie Jones was a 15-time arm wrestling champion. She also competed in shot put and other sports, and is not to be messed with. So it's lucky for Sara Gilbert and Holly Robinson Peete that today's match on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) was more instructional than a true competition.Gilbert and Robinson Peete used one of the set's tables, which Jones notes was not anywhere near regulation, to arm wrestle each other (and not Jones). You should keep your hand in the middle of your chest, Jones explained to Peete as a safety tip, because "it takes like 12, 15 pounds of pressure to radial break your shoulder."
"Teach me, too!" Gilbert asked.
"You're good, you've got leather on," said Jones. "It'll hold it together."
The match was short, as Gilbert easily overcame Peete, almost knocking her over. Jones offered Gilbert a match, which she laughed and declined. Smart lady.

by Aimee Deeken, posted Oct 5th 2010 4:30AM
Dot-Marie Jones owes her role in 'Glee' to a shopping trip to Whole Foods. Seriously. McKinley High's new football coach ran into 'Glee' co-creator Brad Falchuk at the grocery store. The two had worked together before, and he told her about his latest venture."I love that show! ... I wanta be on there -- tell Ryan [Murphy], you guys write me somethin'!" she told Falchuk. "I wasn't kidding, I had him in a choke-hold," she joked on 'The Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC). A few months later, she got the call.
But before Jones started acting, she was a professional arm wrestler. Seriously. After winning her 15th world title in 1997, she appeared on 'Tonight' and soundly beat the late-night host in her trade. Jay Leno had the proof.
