Chelsea Handler Signs New Two-Year Deal With E!

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 16th 2011 8:50AM
Last summer Chelsea Handler was feeling pretty relaxed about upcoming contract negotations with the E! Network, hinting that she might quit if things didn't work out to her satisfaction. "We'll see how it goes," she told 'THR.' "It may turn out that I'm done altogether. I can't keep doing the same thing, my brain is bleeding."

Well now it seems as thought things have gone her way. And how! Deadline reports that Handler's just inked a very lucrative two-year deal with E!, which will not only see her talk show, 'Chelsea Lately,' renewed through 2014, but also gives her production company, Borderline Amazing Prods, a first-look deal with E! and parent company NBC Universal.

The price tag? A whopping $25 million, which surely more than makes up for any feelings of boredom or fatigue that may arise. Announcing the new deal, Suzanne Kolb, President of E! said, "Chelsea is an extraordinary talent whose smart, clever, no-holds-barred point of view has clearly been embraced by viewers."

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 7th 2010 9:07AM
Giuliana Rancic Looks Back on Decision to Announce Her Miscarriage on E! Entertainment NewsSix months ago, Giuliana Rancic suffered a miscarriage. The E! News anchor spent over a year attempting to become pregnant, then underwent in vitro fertilization. After the IVF process, Guiliana became pregnant, but had a miscarriage eight weeks later.

Giuliana announced her miscarriage after the fact, using her hosting position on the E! Network. On 'Giuliana & Bill' (Mon., 8PM ET on Style), she recounts this decision. She brought up the topic on national cable TV so that "it would be done" -- and so she could move forward and not discuss it again. "It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do," she added.

Chelsea Handler, Joan Rivers and Joel McHale? Yes, Please!

by Stephanie Earp, posted Nov 29th 2010 7:00PM
I don't wish to sound less than patriotic, but there are certain things our American cousins enjoy which we here in Canada must do without. An affordable and reliable postal system for example. Black Friday shopping. And until today, the E! Channel.

Some of these are easier to live without than others. Who really needs snail mail anyway? And it would take one hell of a sale to make a dent in our enormous sales taxes. But living without the E! Channel means that rap songs have less meaning, that the covers of People and US Weekly magazines are incomprehensible, and that we think of Chelsea Handler primarily as an author. It's intolerable to wallow in such ignorance and I'm glad something is finally being done about it.

Holly Madison Talks 'Holly's World' And Loving Las Vegas

by Gabrielle Dunn, posted Jun 11th 2010 6:00PM
Holly MadisonHolly Madison was once one-third of the world's hottest trifecta -- Playboy honcho Hugh Hefner's three blonde girlfriends on the E! show 'The Girls Next Door.'

But now, Madison is breaking out on her own show, 'Holly's World,' which follows the 30-year-old bombshell in her new life in Las Vegas. The Playmate's new solo show premieres on E! this Sun., June 13.

Madison, who performs six nights a week on the burlesque Peepshow, talked to TV Squad about the first couple episodes of her show, getting into local politics, embarrassing Hugh Jackman and writing an insider's guide to her favorite city.

Another Girl Next Door gets a spin-off

by Brad Trechak, posted Jan 15th 2010 4:30PM
The Girls Next DoorHolly Madison, one of the Playboy playmates from the series The Girls Next Door, will be getting her own reality series on E! called Holly's World. The show will follow her around as she does her daily routine and works in Las Vegas in her topless revue titled Peepshow. She plays Little Bo Peep. Get it? It's one of those double entendre things.

Since other playmates from the show have gotten their own successful spin-offs (Kendra), it makes sense that other such programs would, ahem, "arise" given the relatively low cost to produce and the extreme willingness of the women to expose themselves both literally and figuratively. It makes me wonder why such a concept hasn't made it to HBO or Showtime where certain body parts are less likely to be blurred.

Perhaps NBC could have solved it's problems by giving Holly or one of the other girls the 11:35 timeslot on NBC and get rid of Jay as well as Conan? Okay, maybe that's not such a good idea.

2009's Trashy Reality Report Card

by Michael Pascua, posted Dec 28th 2009 10:05AM
The girls of Real/Chance of Love
While there are reality shows like The Amazing Race, Survivor, or even Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List garnering praise and Emmys for their quality level or American Idol, America's Next Top Model, or So You Think You Can Dance giving real people with potential to fulfill their dreams, trashy reality shows appear like the black sheep of the family. They are loud, brash, and sleazy. Like a car crash, you can't help but turn and look.

For reality television, 2009 has provided some of the biggest reasons why reality television gets a bad reputation. Four cable channels have become festering points for Trashy Reality in 2009: VH1, E!, MTV, and WE.

What You Missed Last Night: Chelsea Handler explains why she called in sick

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 18th 2009 1:29PM
For the first time ever, Chelsea Handler called in sick the other night. On last night's show she came in to explain what happened (and infect everyone on her staff, apparently). She gets in a funny jab at her older boyfriend too.

Oddly, even though Handler is getting over a sickness she sounds clearer than she usually does.

What You Missed Last Night: Jay Leno vs. Chelsea Handler

by Bob Sassone, posted Oct 29th 2009 12:40PM
A gossip quiz wasn't the only thing that Jay Leno and Chelsea Handler battled about last night. Leno also teased her about the age difference between her and boyfriend Ted Harbert (the E! chief - I guess they got back together?), Handler insulted Leno by comparing him to another talk show host, and then Leno showed the new Playboy that features Handler on the cover.

After the jump, Leno and Handler continue the battle.

There's one particular network he forgot to mention though, and last night Chelsea Handler talked about it.

It's really great to work at Chelsea Lately

by Bob Sassone, posted Sep 10th 2009 5:02PM
You get two different things in this clip from Chelsea Lately. In the first half, Chelsea Handler dumps on the people from a VH1 reality show (I think she says Real Enchant though I'm not sure - maybe she means Real Chance of Love?) who filmed an episode at her show, and in the second half she shows what life is like for the staff at the late night E! show. It involves massages and free babies! (Probably NSFW.)

Side note: Handler looks different. Not just the clothes that make her look like a waiter, but her hairstyle. She looks like another celebrity and I can't think of which one.

Mad Men debuts huge, but almost gets beat by a couple of Kardashians

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 18th 2009 5:09PM
Mad Men (top) / Kourtney & Khloe Take MiamiSometimes ratings can paint such interesting portraits of the American audience. Mad Men set a series high and ranked as the top show on cable Sunday with its third season premiere. And yet, its victory on the night was only 0.1 million viewers over the premiere of E!s Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami.

Those K&K numbers make it the new highest premiere on E! since The Anna Nicole Show premiered. A record briefly held by Kendra's premiere earlier this summer.

So one the one hand we have one of the most deservedly acclaimed television shows of the past decade, and right there with it, running neck and neck, is yet another reality spin-off featuring rich people who are only famous because ... they're famous. I blame Paris Hilton. She was one of the first people who got famous for doing absolutely nothing.

Chelsea Handler talks about Real Housewives, long breasts, and three-way parasailing

I love these little mini-essay rants that Chelsea Handler does. It makes me want to watch her show, though I always always always forget that it's on and always miss it. Here she talks about how one of the Chelsea Lately panelists, Heather McDonald, is obsessed with the Real Housewives shows on Bravo. (Video also here.)

Oh, like 92% of everything Handler talks about, this is NSFW.

This clip from The Soup will bring a smile to the face of every reader who thinks that TV coverage of Michael Jackson has gone too far. I guess that would be all readers. Joel McHale introduces montages about how the gossip shows and news channels reveal too much info about his death, wonder where his body is, and speculate wildly. The funeral is tomorrow, so we can imagine what coverage is still to come. (Video also here.)
