by Alex Moaba, posted Sep 27th 2011 10:50AM
Ellen DeGeneres is skilled at making fun of most anything, including her own health. As you may have read on TMZ, DeGeneres experienced some tightness in her chest yesterday, and before taping her show, called the paramedics to the Warner Bros. lot.On Tuesday's show, Ellen addressed the scary incident in her monologue, assuring her loyal viewers that she was fine, while cracking several jokes about the experience of calling the paramedics.
Ellen quipped that 50 fire trucks and ambulances showed up, and that the scene was "one marching band short of a parade." She joked that the firemen broke through her office door with an axe, which was strange, considering the door was open. Ellen closed by thanking TMZ for caring so much about her health.

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 23rd 2011 5:25AM
Ellen DeGeneres teamed with HGTV for a crossover event on 'HGTV'd' (Mon, 10PM ET on HGTV). She received a request for tickets to her show from a military family, but decided to up the ante for them. She teamed with David Bromstad and the 'HGTV'd' crew to surprise the family with a $100,000 makeover for their backyard.Bromstad did an amazing job, creating an oasis for the family when husband Ryan is at home, and a great place for Krystal to relax when her husband is deployed overseas.
But the team didn't stop there. They went inside the house and gave the living room and bedroom a makeover as well, with all new furniture and carpeting, and even new artwork for the wall. It was a way for DeGeneres to thank Ryan for his service, and it was all the couple could do to pick their jaws off the ground and thank everyone.

'American Idol' - 'Idol Gives Back/1 of 7 Voted Off' Recap
by Jane Boursaw, posted Apr 21st 2010 11:09PM

It's "Inspiration Week" on 'American Idol,' which means the Idols sang inspirational songs on Tuesday, and 'Idol Gives Back' was on tap for tonight. It's truly amazing how much this charitable endeavor helps people around the globe. It's not easy to see all of the suffering going on in the world -- especially the children -- but it's really easy to pick up the phone and make a small donation that could save a kid's life.
Tonight, celebrities reported on the huge malaria problem in Africa; Save the Children; a food bank in Monrovia, Calif.; and global health, among others. At the end of the show, Simon Cowell reported that $15 million had been raised during the two hours the show aired. That's awesome. For more info and to learn how you can give, check out 'Idol Gives Back.'

'American Idol' - 'Seven Finalists Compete' Recap
by Kona Gallagher, posted Apr 20th 2010 10:23PM

This season has actually gone by pretty quickly for me. Top 7? That's completely nuts, yet here we are. Plus, we get a bitchin' mentor this week: Alicia Keys. The theme this week is the nebulous, "songs of inspiration," which could either be completely ridiculous or pretty cool.
Unfortunately, it's a little bit more of the former instead of the latter. I don't know what it is, but when left to basically their own devices, these guys aren't very good at picking songs. Just about everybody gave pretty much a "take it or leave it" performance. Of course, it wouldn't be 'Idol' if there wasn't a standout or two in the crowd.

Adam Lambert Should Replace Simon Cowell on 'American Idol'
by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 18th 2010 2:04PM
This hasn't been a particularly exciting season of 'American Idol.' The addition of Ellen DeGeneres has rated a 'B-minus' at best, and that's if you're grading on a curve. The contestants have failed to create the buzz we've heard in previous seasons. The absence of Paula Abdul as a judge has given rise to rumors that she's going to be asked back next season to bring back the 'train wreck' factor. And then there's the reality that Simon Cowell has been punching the clock, sort of sleepwalking through the competition which will be his last go round with 'Idol.'
