'Ugly Betty' Star Eric Mabius Hops Across Pond for BBC Drama
by Laura Prudom, posted Apr 21st 2010 3:15PM
They say that the grass is always greener on the other side, which may explain why 'Ugly Betty' alum Eric Mabius is following in his character's footsteps and heading across the pond for the (less) sunny climes of Britain. According to Deadline, Mabius has been tapped to star in a high-profile new drama series for the UK's main broadcasting channel, BBC One, where dramas such as 'Doctor Who,' 'Merlin' and the original 'Life on Mars' found popularity.
The new project is titled 'Outcasts,' a sci-fi series set in 2040 after a biological catastrophe wipes humanity from the face of the Earth, forcing 50,000 survivors to start a new colony on a life-supporting planet in a neighboring solar system. (Think Battlestar Galactica without the Cylons and with much posher accents.)

Top 20 Funniest 'Ugly Betty' Quotes

What will we miss most about 'Ugly Betty'? (Besides Betty Suarez's once-dreadful fashion blunders, now a thing of the past, thanks to four years among New York's fashion elite.) The witty repartee and casual cruelty of Mode players like uber-bitch Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams), sharp-tongued assistant editor Marc St. James (Michael Urie) and bitchy bimbo Amanda (Becki Newton). Betty (America Ferrera) got off quite a few clever retorts of her own, and how could we not include her boss (and mate for life?) Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius), who often opened his mouth without thinking, to hilarious results. Or what about her always-fabulous nephew, Justin (Marc Indelicato)?
In honor of tomorrow night's series finale (10PM ET on ABC), we count down 20 of 'Ugly Betty's' best zingers.
Ugly Betty: Burning Questions

(S02E15) You can add "glamourtunity" and "preg-nasty" to the Ugly Betty lexicon. While this episode gave us some cute moments and clever dialogue, I felt like it was light on plot. Yes, we got Renee's storyline out of the way, but the rest of it was build-up to the season's bigger issues. I'm ready for things to start happening.

What to expect in season 2 of Ugly Betty
by Isabelle Carreau, posted Sep 3rd 2007 10:00AM
The first season finale of ABC's Ugly Betty left us wondering if Bradford would really marry Wilhelmina, if Henry is the father of Charlie's baby, if almost half the cast was dead or not, and so much more. This very good finale had a lot of TV fans speculating all summer. Speculate no more as we have gathered for you a series of spoilers that will reveal the fate of most characters and what is in store for them.Spoilers ahead!
Hayek not returning to Ugly Betty
by Isabelle Carreau, posted May 3rd 2007 12:24PM
Salma Hayek, who produces ABC's Ugly Betty, says that fans shouldn't expect her to reprise her roles of Sofia and the nurse in the telenovela the Suarez family watch. Hayek appeared in six episodes of the show's first season as Sofia Reyes and in one episode as the nurse, an uncredited role. Sofia was a newcomer to the Mode scene and was in charge of a new magazine. The character ended up being romantically tied to Daniel Meade but things didn't end happily for him after he learned some of Sofia's secrets.
Ugly Betty: After Hours

(S01E07) The construction of this week's Ugly Betty episode was just plain masterful. We had four parallel stories - each dealing with romantic relationships at profoundly different points in their evolution. The writers have, in particular, been juxtaposing Wilhelmina and Betty's travails to great effect. We got dual make-overs in "Queens for a Day." This week, we got two classic fish out of water stories. Wilhelmina at a barely disguised Hogs & Heifers, and Betty at an upscale Soho hotel eatery. What's nice about this show is that both worlds - the corporate version of lowbrow and the needlessly pretentious highbrow - were presented as equally artificial and brainless. Somewhere in the middle is where we might find a really good burger and Babbo. While the Mode staff's struggles don't stack up to having an illegal immigrant dad who can't get his heart medication, the writers and actors have done a superb job of giving the Manhattanites' emotional lives some weight. And, best of all, no tiresome Fey storyline this week.
Now since the writer's took the time to construct the A, B, C and D stories so intricately, we might as well tackle them that way.
