Everybody Loves Raymond

Patricia Heaton On 'The Middle' Season 3, the Royal Wedding & Reuniting With Ray Romano

by Jean Bentley, posted Sep 20th 2011 9:00AM
Patricia Heaton, Ray Romano, The MiddleWhen the Heck family returns on the Season 3 premiere of 'The Middle,' they'll be joined by a very special guest -- Patricia Heaton's former 'Everybody Loves Raymond costar Ray Romano.

But don't worry -- just because the ABC sitcom is now attracting guest stars like Romano, former 'Saturday Night Live' star Molly Shannon and former 'Glee' star Chord Overstreet doesn't mean the show will lose any of what star Patricia Heaton calls its "Heck style."

In the Season 3 premiere (Wed., Sept. 21, 8PM ET on ABC), the Hecks go camping -- Heck-style, of course -- and if you're thinking that sounds like a recipe for disaster, you're absolutely correct.

Below, Heaton sounds off on her hatred for camping, reuniting with Romano and which pop culture obsession Frankie will harbor next now that the Royal Wedding is over.

'The Middle' Star Patricia Heaton Says She's Lost Work Due to Her Conservative Views

by PopEater Staff, posted May 19th 2011 6:30AM
Patricia HeatonPatricia Heaton, star of 'The Middle' and 'Everybody Loves Raymond,' is known in left-leaning Hollywood for her conservative stance on weighty issues like abortion and stem cell research.

Although Heaton is happy to explain how important her Christian faith is to her, and how it shapes her views and career choices, she feels that her views have caused her to lose potential roles in the past.

"My feeling is all these things come from God and as long as I know I'm staying in line with Him, I don't have to worry if there is backlash," she told me during a visit to AOL's New York offices. "God will open any doors he wants to open and if he closes doors that's fine to."

Telling me that she has many gay friends and doesn't oppose gay marriage, Patricia gets frustrated being automatically lumped together with other conservatives, a characterization she says has cost her possible work.

"We know for a fact there are some people who have said they wouldn't want to work with us because of our politics," she said, with her husband David Hunt adding, "We get lumped in with lunatics."

'Everybody Loves Raymond' Stars Reunite on 'The Middle' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 23rd 2010 12:05AM
'Everybody Loves Raymond' Stars Reunite on 'The Middle'Back when Patricia Heaton and Doris Roberts appeared on 'Everybody Loves Raymond,' the pair's characters had a pretty antagonistic relationship. That pattern continued tonight when Doris guest-starred on the season premiere of 'The Middle' (Wed., 8PM ET on ABC). Roberts plays Ms. Rinsky, the new school teacher who has Brick Heck (Atticus Shaffer) in her class.

[Warning: Spoiler alert.]

Brick is the youngest and most precocious child in the Heck family. And so when his parents Frankie and Mike (played by Heaton and Neil Flynn) show up to talk to Ms. Rinsky, they're understandably hopeful that they can get Brick some "special attention." Ms. Rinsky isn't in the mood to humor them, though, and takes specific aim at Frankie. "Every parent thinks their child is 'special',"she tells Frankie. "[But] they can't all be." Okay, that's actually a good point.

Why Charlie Sheen Must Return to 'Two and a Half Men'

My colleague Danny seems to think that Warner Brothers and CBS should show Charlie Sheen the door and let him leave the series, even though the network and production company are committed to two more years of 'Two and a Half Men.' And my other fellow TV Squadder Jason has kiddingly suggested seven characters who could fill Sheen's shoes. Well, to paraphrase the words of Dan Aykroyd on 'Saturday Night Live,' they are both ignorant sluts!

'I Spy' star Robert Culp dead at 79

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 24th 2010 6:25PM
I SpyOne half of the 'I Spy' team is gone: Robert Culp has died near his home in Hollywood at the age of 79. What's even more troubling is the way he died. Culp apparently fell and hit his head while out for a walk and was found by a jogger. He later died at a hospital.

Although Culp is probably best known for his work with Bill Cosby on 'I Spy,' he could be equally well-known to modern audiences for his work on two other classic shows. He played Agent Bill Maxwell on 'The Greatest American Hero' and also played Debra's dad on 'Everybody Loves Raymond.'

He made appearances in tons of other TV shows too: 'Columbo' (he was the murderer four times), 'Murder, She Wrote,' 'Matlock,' 'Robot Chicken,' 'The Outer Limits,' 'Police Story,' 'Dr. Kildare,' 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E., 'Combat,' 'Disneyland,' 'The Rifleman,' 'Bonanza,' 'Golden Girls,' 'Wings,' and many more shows and movies.

Oh, 'I Spy' was a fantastic show. It was shot on location around the world, which is rather rare for a TV show. It's on tonight at 9 on Retro TV. After the jump, the opening (you can also watch the show for free at SlashControl).

carl_reiner_mel_brooks_1963TV Land will be honoring some of the greats of television, some from the golden age of TV, some from just a few years back, and even the greats of tomorrow? How's that? Well, look at the line up: Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner, the creators of 'The 2000 Year Old Man' among other comic gems, the cast of 'Everybody Loves Raymond,' a salute to Farrah Fawcett by the other 'Charlie's Angel' stars, and with a wink toward the future, a celebration of 'Glee.'

Scheduled to appear are the 'Raymond' gang -- Ray Romano, Brad Garrett, Patricia Heaton, Doris Roberts; two of the 'Angels' -- Cheryl Ladd and Jaclyn Smith; and 'Glee' cast members Jane Lynch, Dianna Agron, Jayma Mays, Jessalyn Gilsig and Kevin McHale.

What were the ten most-watched TV episodes of the decade?

by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 2nd 2009 7:05PM
FriendsSome of this list is going to be very predictable and some of it is going to surprise you.

The Hollywood Reporter has the list of the ten most-watched TV episodes of the past ten years. Now, you know that shows like American Idol (season six premiere), Survivor (first season finale), and Friends (series finale) would be on the list, but how about the series finale of Spin City? Maybe it's because I never got into that show but I never really thought it would make the top ten (of the decade anyway). The ER episode where Lucy died is also in the top ten, as is the Grey's Anatomy episode that aired after the Super Bowl in 2006. The number three episode? Well, that just surprises and depresses the hell out of me.

Any episodes not make it that you thought would be on such a list?

Patricia Heaton Talks About Life in 'The Middle'

by Gary Susman, posted Nov 4th 2009 1:30PM
Patricia Heaton'Everybody Loves Raymond' alumna Patricia Heaton relishes the legacy of having starred in one of TV's all-time most popular sitcoms, but after a long reign at the top, she's happy now to settle in 'The Middle.'

You may have thought Heaton's Debra Barone on 'Raymond' had it tough, with her childish husband and impossible-to-please mother-in-law, but Debra lived the life of a pampered princess compared to Heaton's 'Middle' mom. Every week, Heaton's supermom Frankie Heck courts comic catastrophe as she tries to juggle her many responsibilities -- marriage, a sputtering career, dismal finances and three hapless children.

Heaton spoke to AOL TV about how much fun she's having on the freshman ABC sitcom, how closely it mirrors her own life as a busy mother of four and following up one of the hardest acts to follow in TV history.

What Patricia Heaton is doing right in The Middle

by Allison Waldman, posted Oct 17th 2009 9:03AM

I wasn't really prepared to like The Middle. I had no expectations, really, because aside from knowing that it was Patricia Heaton's latest sitcom, there had been very little scuttlebutt about it. So, when I tuned in, I expected the typical Patty Heaton I had seen for years on Everybody Loves Raymond or the upscale version I'd watched on Back to You.

Well, what a surprise when I saw her on The Middle. This is a Patty I had never seen before, and I not only liked her character, I admire her performance.

Chris Elliott cast as Lily's pop on How I Met Your Mother

by Allison Waldman, posted Oct 10th 2009 9:38AM
chris_elliott_smilingIt'll be how I met Lily's dad on How I Met Your Mother. Chris Elliott has been cast as Lily's father on the CBS sitcom, a character who is supposedly something of a good-for-nothing parent. Elliott is hilarious and specializes in playing these kind of goofy roles. On Everybody Loves Raymond, for instance, his was Robert's overly familiar brother-in-law, Peter, who liked Ray just a little too much.

On HIMYM, Lily's dad will appear for the upcoming Thanksgiving episode on November 23. According to Michael Ausiello of EW.com, there will be series of flashbacks to illustrate exactly what's what with Lily and her father, why their relationship is "troubled." I'm hoping for more from this casting than Eric Braeden as Robin's dad; they never really used him right.

New TV on DVD releases this week

by Bob Sassone, posted Sep 28th 2009 6:06PM
KingsHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

This might not be the biggest DVD release day in history, but it's certainly one of the business. There's something for everyone this week, including a bunch of "Fan Favorites" DVDs for various sitcoms, including NewsRadio, All in the Family, and I Dream of Jeannie. That's a neat idea, though I wonder, if you're a big fan, wouldn't you already have the DVDs?

Oh, and remember Day Break, the ABC mystery series from a couple of years ago? You can get the Complete Series. I don't think I ever saw the end of that show. You can watch it on SlashControl, so maybe I'll start there before buying the set.

  • All in the Family - Fan Favorites
  • Ax Men - Season 2
  • Barney Miller - Fan Favorites
  • Bewitched - Fan Favorites

Patricia Heaton: good actress, bad at math

Math was my worst subject in school, by far, but I still think I would have gotten this question that Patricia Heaton got on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire last night. This is something that Debra would dump on Raymond about.

What you missed last night: Ray Romano gambles with his kids

by Bob Sassone, posted Jun 25th 2009 8:10AM
Ray Romano was a guest on last night's Late Show with David Letterman, and he revealed he made a bet with his sons: if they could guess what the tagline for the Worldwide Pants logo at the end of each show would be, he'd give them $10,000. They haven't won yet, but they did supply Letterman will some new taglines for the show.
