Remembering the most famous exploded whale in TV history

A lot of Americans mentally record where they were and what they were doing when they first heard that the Berlin Wall had fallen, John F. Kennedy was shot and the Challenger Space Shuttle exploded. But one famous tragedy has remained suspiciously ignored, until now.
This week marked the 39th anniversary of Oregon's famed "exploding whale," a beached whale that washed up on the shores of Florence, Oregon. Officials exploded it with almost half a ton of dynamite because they couldn't think of another way to remove the sea creature from the beach.
