Flashpoint

Ultimate Sacrifice on 'Flashpoint' (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Jun 7th 2010 4:01AM
Summer's installments of 'Flashpoint' (Fri., 9PM ET on CBS) started off with a bang -- literally -- with the police drama killing off a major character.

[Spoiler alert.]

The Toronto-based Strategic Response Unit had to defuse a bomb. As if things couldn't get worse -- and more tense -- Lewis stepped on a land mine in the middle of the task. Realizing what he'd done, he kept his foot firmly planted on the spot and alerted his teammates.

Spike had every intention of rescuing his friend from the situation. "We transfer the weight -- it's a good shot," he pleaded.

But Lew didn't want to risk killing them both. When Spike had walked away to set his weight-transfer idea in motion, Lew lifted his foot, triggering the land mine and making the ultimate sacrifice.

'Flashpoint' - 'One Wrong Move' (Season Premiere) Recap

by Jane Boursaw, posted Jun 5th 2010 8:40AM
Flashpoint: One Wrong Move(S03E01) "The fifth rule is to break the rules when you have to. Job's about what? Yeah, saving lives." - Spike

If you haven't checked out 'Flashpoint' yet, now is the perfect opportunity. Season three premiered last night, and I had to keep running the DVR back because I'd get so engrossed in the story that I'd forget to take notes.

The show falls somewhere between 'The Hurt Locker,' 'Southland' and '24' in its gritty detail about life in a Toronto-based Strategic Response Unit, where, as the title of this episode suggests, one wrong move can mean the difference between life and death.

Enrico Colantoni told TV Guide
that the show is really finding its stride, and I have to agree. This episode really brought it. Bombs, environmental protesters, and a heartbreaking decision all crashed together. Did you see the ending coming? I had a feeling something tragic would happen. Dang!

June 2010 Premieres, Specials and Finales

by Jason Hughes, posted May 29th 2010 10:31AM
'True Blood' / 'Hot in Cleveland' / 'Futurama'
There's no reason to go into TV withdrawal now that so many of your favorites have had their season finales. We've still got 'Glee' to go yet. But more than that, June offers such a plethora of new series and season premieres, you'd think it was premiere week in September. HBO is back in a big way with new seasons of 'True Blood,' 'Hung' and 'Entourage.'

'Burn Notice,' 'In Plain Sight' and 'Royal Pains' kick off their summer runs on USA. Perhaps a little higher on the anticipation ladder is the long-awaited return of 'Futurama' on Comedy Central. Also returning to television is Betty White, This time she's teaming up with three comic vets on TV Land's first-ever scripted comedy, 'Hot in Cleveland.'

There are series finales ('Saving Grace,' 'The Tudors') and sports finals (NBA, NHL) as you'd expect this time of year. More surprising, perhaps, is the networks debuting several new scripted series for the summer season, to join their reality staples. NBC premieres 'Persons Unknown,' while ABC brings 'Scoundrels,' 'The Gates,' 'Rookie Blue' and 'Boston Med.'

New TV on DVD Releases This Week

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 22nd 2010 6:04PM
Mad Men DVDHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

It's not many weeks where there is a DVD set released that I'll definitely buy (most weeks I'm lucky enough to avoid spending money on DVDs), but this is one of those weeks. 'Mad Men' is one of those shows that I'll buy the DVD for no question. In fact, when they release the inevitable 'Complete Series' in a few years (two years? five? seven?), I'm going to buy that, too, even if I'm already buying the individual season sets.

I can't say I'm too interested in season 10 of '7th Heaven' though.

  • '7th Heaven' - Season 10
  • 'Father Knows Best' - Season 4
  • 'Flashpoint' - Season 2, Vol. 1 (Canada)

Legend of the SeekerHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

I don't know if Legend of the Seeker could be considered a guilty pleasure or not. I mean, if you like something, why does it have to be a "guilty" pleasure? Having said that, I think a lot of people would consider this show something they're not willing to admit they like. But I'll admit it: I like it. It's a fun show.

Holiday TV Comedy Collection is a mix of Christmas episodes from various shows, including The Office, 30 Rock, Psych, Monk, and House.

CBS exec session: CSI changes, Let's Make A Deal... and a few shots at NBC - TCA Report

by Joel Keller, posted Aug 3rd 2009 1:12PM
Laurence Fishburne, CSICBS programming chief Nina Tassler held court this morning in the CBS executive session. Her network is in an extremely strong position, so there wasn't much in the way of controversy to report, but here are some interesting tidbits from the session:

  • Laurence Fishburne's character of Dr. Langston on CSI will assume a more take-charge position this year, he'll also be given a "wardrobe makeover" so he seems, as Tassler put it "more comfortable in his own clothes."
  • Jorja Fox will be back for the first five episodes. And one of the main characters will get promoted. I won't spoil it for you, but you can probably figure out who it might be.
  • A new Let's Make A Deal with Wayne Brady as host, will be taking the place of Guiding Light. Tassler wouldn't go so far as saying this is a trend towards the return of daytime network game shows, but she did say she wanted to get a new LMAD on the air for a while.
  • No plans to bring back Flashpoint right now, though they can. More Canadian cross-production deals on the way, including The Bridge.
  • On NBC's late-night / Leno strategies: "Whatever numbers they get, they'll declare victory anyway, so it doesn't matter."
  • On the departure of Ben Silverman of NBC: "I'm really just a D-girl, so I wouldn't comment."
