Food Detectives doesn't acknowledge Top Chef
by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 30th 2009 4:24PM
Does Food Network think that we don't know that other networks do shows about food? The reason I'm asking the question is this: season four Top Chef finalist Richard Blais was a guest on Ted Allen's Food Detectives last week talking about how to freeze alcohol with liquid nitrogen to make really cool looking cocktails. I recognized Richard right away, as did probably most other foodies who watched the show...but you'd never know about his Top Chef tenure if you listened to Ted's introduction. It was like the other show didn't exist.

'The Real Housewives of New York City'(11PM, Bravo) 2nd season premiere
There's only one word to accurately describe the new season with the NYC 'Housewives': Meow!
It's catfights-a-go-go, as the premiere quickly reveals that the rivalries that began last season have not cooled off a bit. On the contrary, it's wannabes Alex and Simon vs. the rest of the cast, as season two opens with the marrieds ticked off about some unflattering comments Jill made about them in a New York gossip column.
That leads to snubbing by and of the rest of the 'Housewives' when they all meet up at a Hamptons party, and, as coming attractions show, the snits just keep on coming throughout season two.

'The Cleaner' (10PM, A&E)
Think supermodels are under big pressure to keep their bods in designer sample size shape? William (Benjamin Bratt) finds out tonight about another profession whose practitioners have to keep their bodies in tip top petite form: Horse jockeys.
In fact, Mrs. Jockey, the wife of a successful rider, hires William to help her diminutive hubby, who's become an addict while taking a drug that helps him maintain his weight.
Sure, the missus wants him to be eligible to compete, but not only is she afraid for the state of his health should he continue taking the meds, she's afraid of her spouse; seems the drugs have the side effect of making the jockey a bit psycho.

'Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood' (10PM, Oxygen) 3rd season finale
She's moved back to her 'hood -- both on this show and on the upcoming CW remake of 'Beverly Hills 90210.'
Now, Tori Spelling and hubby Dean McDermott close the 'Home Sweet Hollywood' season by bringing baby daughter Stella home from the hospital to meet brother Liam, and officially christening their new abode with a housewarming party.
No worries that this is the end for Oxygen's highest-rated series, however; though Tori is headed back to '90210' and is penning 'Mommywood,' a book on mommyhood, it's likely that Donna Martin graduates to another season of 'Tori & Dean,' too.
Food Network cooks up six new summer shows
by Allison Waldman, posted Jun 25th 2008 4:23PM
Summer's here and that can mean only one thing -- food! Okay, maybe that's only what it means at the Food Network. The Food Network will kick off six new shows for the summer beginning right after the Fourth of July. Here's what's on tap:• Grill It! with Bobby Flay - This is the latest from Iron Chef and master griller Bobby Flay. It's sort of a competition/fantasy show, but not a Throw Down (that's another show). Bobby will introduce 13 viewers who've sent in their videos showing their grilling expertise and why they should be on air to grill alongside BF. The show premieres on July 6 at 9 o'clock a.m. with a shrimp episode.
• How'd That Get On My Plate? - From the field to the plate, hostess Sunny Anderson -- who just started on FN in April with Cooking for Real -- shows how the things we eat make it to our tables. The first episode is July 6 at 11 p.m. The food in question will be strawberries.
