Julianne Moore Returns to 'As the World Turns' on Monday
by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 1st 2010 11:05AM
When it was announced last month that movie star Julianne Moore was returning to 'As the World Turns' for a guest appearance, it sounded like a prank. And the fact that today is April 1 -- April Fool's Day -- maybe you think this is a gag. It's not. Julianne Moore, four-time Oscar-nominated actress -- is really going back to her roots. On Monday, April 5, Julianne Moore will be on 'As the World Turns' as Frannie Hughes, the character she played from 1985-87 on the CBS soap. She also played Frannie's look-alike British twin Sabrina. She was so good on 'ATWT' that she won the Daytime Emmy in 1988 for Outstanding Ingenue in a Drama Series. And she was! So often in the soap genre, actors are given the opportunity to play a twin -- evil or not -- and they either rise to the occasion... or crash and burn.
It's Official: Julianne Moore Returns to 'As the World Turns'

Confirming the rumor that was previously mentioned here on TV Squad, Julianne Moore will in fact be returning to the show and the Emmy-winning role that she played from 1985 to 1988. Moore is certainly at the point in her career where she can do whatever she wants, even if it's for nostalgia's sake. This is a pretty big deal as movie stars rarely do a career step backwards, but Julianne Moore has been unconventional as of recent (thinking primarily of her '30 Rock' appearance). What if other movie stars returned to the roles that spawned them? Would Robin Williams play Mork again? What about having Bruce Willis revisit David Addison? Of course, neither of those shows are soap operas that are still in production, so the logistics would be a little tougher.
Or maybe this is just a case of a fading star trying to keep the shine going? What do you think? Sound off in the comments.
Will Julianne Moore Return to 'As the World Turns'?

Once upon a time, long before 'Boogie Nights' and 'Far From Heaven' and '30 Rock' and a zillion other projects, Julianne Moore was a soap opera sensation. She was riveting in 1988 when she won a Daytime Emmy for playing Frannie Hughes and her look-alike sister, whom she had never known growing up, Sabrina Fullerton, on 'As the World Turns.' With the end of the soap coming in September 2010, reportedly CBS has asked Julianne Moore to make a brief return to 'As the World Turns' ... for old time's sake.
