Spook Yourself on Halloween with 'Paranormal Witness'

by Stephanie Earp, posted Oct 25th 2011 5:45PM
This Halloween, if you want to give yourself a good scare, you've got options. You can get down with AMC's flesh-eating 'The Walking Dead' on Sunday, or take in the Canadian debut of 'American Horror Story' on brand-new FX Canada channel on Monday, but for my money, the most genuine chills to be had are over on Space (Mondays at 10PM), with 'Paranormal Witness.'

Quietly growing its audience from week to week, this reality series is surprisingly effective considering the tools in its arsenal are pretty familiar. It retells scary and unexplained stories using a mixture of reenactments, interviews with actual people, archival audio and video and lots of spooky sound and lighting effects. So basically, things 'America's Most Wanted' wasn't doing. But the show transcends the sum of its parts, and I think it comes down to great writing and great casting.

'Once Upon a Time' Adds 'Buffy' & 'Life Unexpected' Veterans, 'Smallville' Star Erica Durance Lands Pilot and More TV News

by Chris Harnick, posted Jun 1st 2011 11:00AM
Once Upon a TimeThat squeal you heard? That was a combination of yelps of joy from 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and 'Life Unexpected' fans.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, 'Buffy' scribe Jane Espenson -- who is also known for her work on a variety of different projects including 'Battlestar Galactica' and 'Torchwood: Miracle Day' --- and 'Life Unexpected' creator Liz Tigelaar are joining the staff of ABC's 'Once Upon a Time.'

Espenson came on board as a co-executive producer and Tigelaar will be a consulting producer. 'Lost' writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz wrote the pilot and will also executive produce the series.

'Once Upon a Time' stars Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White and Jennifer Morrison as a woman with a mysterious past tied to fairy tales. The show, like 'Lost,' switches between two worlds, the fairy tale and the "real world."

What to Watch: November 1 - 7

by Stephanie Earp, posted Nov 1st 2010 3:00AM
Supernanny - Friday November 5, 8PM ET/PT, Citytv/ABC

Back when Jo Frost was new to the airwaves, I really liked this show. I didn't have kids then, still don't now, but she was like an early proto-Cesar Millan -- her supreme confidence and lovely accent made her a pleasure to watch. And I'm sure all of this is still true, but I had completely forgotten this show has still being made. A new season debuts tonight.

Ghost Intervention joins the ranks of paranormal stalkers

by John Scott Lewinski, posted Dec 21st 2009 3:02PM
Ghost Intervention ain't afraid of finding nothing.I confess I've written more than my fair share of posts complaining about the never-ending march of paranormal, ghost busting shows haunting TV these days. You know the shows I refer to -- the "documentaries" promising to prove the existence of ghosts without ever finding anything resembling actual proof.

Every time I've written something bemoaning the arrival of another such show, I think it has to be over soon. There can't be another hour of clods stumbling around in night vision and reacting to sights and sounds the audience doesn't get to experience.

But, they keep coming. They keep finding nothing. But, evidently, people keep watching them. Now, we have Ghost Intervention -- running through December. The 4-part docu-series from TLC "chronicles a case manager and a team of women with psychic abilities as they try to help different families who are struggling with paranormal activity in their homes."

Ghosts, Psychics and Bumps in the Night: A Guide to Paranormal TV Shows

by Marina Zogbi, posted Dec 16th 2009 5:19PM
Ryan Buell of Paranormal StateThere was a time when ghosts, apparitions and other paranormal entities led a quiet, under-the-radar sort of un-life. Now, thanks to the proliferation of reality or documentary-style TV shows devoted to the subject, the poor dead have nowhere to hide.

These days everybody wants to talk about their brush with the inexplicable, and it seems there are more paranormal investigators than actual ghosts stumbling around in the dark. How believable are these shows? Let's see.
