by Alex Moaba, posted Dec 5th 2011 12:20PM
Giuliana Rancic, the E! host and star of the reality show 'Giuliana & Bill,' announced Monday on 'Today' that she would be undergoing a double mastectomy in her battle against breast cancer. The surgical procedure is more drastic than the course of treatment she had planned initially, when she told 'Today' in October that she would treat the disease with a double lumpectomy and six weeks of radiation therapy. But after the lumpectomies failed to remove all of the cancer cells, she changed course, and updated viewers on her treatment plan.Bill Rancic Tells 'Today' That Giuliana Is Doing Well After Cancer Surgery (VIDEO)

Giuliana Rancic shocked Ann Curry when she announced live on Monday's 'Today Show' that she has breast cancer. The next day she underwent a double lumpectomy and had some lymph nodes removed, and her husband Bill spoke to Curry this morning about the surgery and how his wife's doing.Bill said they're both doing okay, and that Giuliana expects to return to work next week. He also thanked viewers at home on her behalf for all their support: "It's definitely helped Giuliana get through this." The two-hour surgery went well and Giuliana is now recuperating at home.
Bill said that although it was "heartbreaking" to see her have to undergo the surgery, "we're looking at this as a gift" because the cancer was detected in the very early stages. He also said it's helped the couple focus on what's important in life.

Yesterday morning Giuliana Rancic stunned Ann Curry and the 'Today' show audience when she revealed live on-air that she has breast cancer. Now she has spoken candidly to her 'E! News' co-host Ryan Seacrest about her diagnosis and her decision to take something so private and place it out there in the public domain.
Speaking to Seacrest via satellite from New York Monday night Rancic said that she was "a nervous wreck" before going on-air, but that she's glad she did it.
"I feel like such a heavy weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I've been keeping this secret from a lot of dear friends for a while now and it's nice to get it out there and not hide anymore."
Rancic also hopes that by going public with her battle she can help educate women about the importance of regular breast exams and screening.

However, Rancic said that the prognosis is good. She will undergo surgery this week and then have six weeks of radiation therapy.
Don't Tell, But 'Giuliana & Bill' Are Going to Try Again to Get Pregnant (VIDEO)

Four years after they tied the knot, Giuliana and Bill Rancic returned to the church in Italy where they got married on 'Giuliana & Bill' (Mon., 8PM ET on Style). There, the couple discussed wrapping up their "year of fun" and moving on with the rest of their lives."Maybe it's time to kind of start thinking about having a kid again," Giuliana said.
Bill's response was a little odd. "Whatever you want to do, I support," he said. But isn't he supposed to want it as much as she does when it comes to having a baby? That's not an endeavor you support your wife in, it's one you participate and commit to as fully as she does.
Giuliana Cries During Speech at Bill's Surprise Party on 'Giuliana & Bill' (VIDEO)

Giuliana Rancic is giving a speech again, except this time it was in a smaller and more intimate venue. She threw a surprise 40th birthday bash for her husband on 'Giuliana & Bill' (Mon., 8PM ET on Style). And while she'd prepared a longer speech, she got too emotional to finish. She didn't tear up talking about her love for Bill, or his love for her, but rather Bill's love for Chicago and his friends. As the part was scheduled for after his actual birthday, apparently Bill was a little sad.
"Bill never said, 'I want some gift from my mom'," Giuliana said. "It was always, 'I just want to see my friends.' ... Bill loves you guys so much, and he loves Chicago so much, and everywhere he goes in the world he can't ever get Chicago and his friends out of his heart."
Giuliana Rancic Drops the Award She's Presenting to Kara DioGuardi (VIDEO)

Public speaking is a very difficult thing for some people to master. There's something about all those faces staring back at you that can cause your body to freeze and your brain to push the flush lever on everything you were planning to say. We saw it last week on 'Giuliana & Bill' (Mon., 8PM ET on Style) when Giuliana bombed as host of an awards show. This week, all she had to do was present a Lifetime Achievement Award to her good friend Kara DioGuardi, but nevertheless Bill was nervous for her. We all were.
Giuliana started off shaky, but surprisingly dropping the award turned out to be the best thing that could have happened for her. She got the audience laughing, and that seemed to help her calm down. That and actually getting some laughs for her jokes had to help.
Giuliana Rancic Relives Bombing as Host of the 'Young Hollywood Awards' (VIDEO)

Giuliana Rancic clearly isn't as popular with "young Hollywood" as she might have thought. Either that or they don't watch E! News and had no idea who she was. On 'Giuliana & Bill' (Mon., 8PM ET on Style) we got to see her bomb horribly as host of the 'Young Hollywood Awards.'It was like watching "The Situation" bombing at the Donald Trump roast all over again, except there was at least some sort of reaction from the crowd for the 'Jersey Shore' cast member. It wasn't a positive response, but he at least knew the crowd was there.
Giuliana and Bill Rancic Have Talked About Adopting an Italian Child (VIDEO)

Chelsea Handler jumped right on the rumor floating around that Giuliana and Bill Rancic are about to adopt a baby on 'Chelsea Lately' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on E!)."That story is definitely out there," Giuliana agreed, but she didn't say definitively that this is something they were going to do. She did, though, admit that it was one of several things they were considering, as nothing else has been working and they do want to have children.
Specifically, Giuliana would like to reach back to her own roots. "I'd love to adopt from where I'm from," she said. "I moved from Naples, Italy when I was a little girl and we were there recently, and I thought it would be really special to adopt an underprivileged kid from there."
Handler turned her attention to Bill and asked about his upcoming show, 'America Now,' with Leeza Gibbons. Bill describes it as a "news-you-can-use show," but that's not what Handler was wondering about. Why's he doing a show in LA if he doesn't like it in LA?
"Do you still hate LA?" she asked.
"I don't love it here. But if I'm gonna be here, I might as well make some money, right?" Plenty of people go to undesirable places for jobs, though most people wouldn't consider sunny Southern California so undesirable.

'E! News' host Giuliana Rancic and her husband Bill Rancic have battled infertility in a very public way on their reality show, 'Giuliana and Bill.' Friday on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC), Elisabeth Hasselbeck congratulated Rancic for her bravery, saying that she was one of the first people to put the issue out there in such a vulnerable way.Rancic said that she and her husband have considered many options, including surrogacy, after she suffered a miscarriage and another attempt at fertilization didn't take. "We've considered everything at this point," said Rancic. "Let me tell you something, infertility stinks. It is the worst thing in the world. It has not been a pleasant experience."
However painful and difficult the process has been, Rancic said it has not hurt the marriage. It has actually helped. "Bill and I are stronger than ever because of this," she said.
