YouTube traffic up after removing Viacom videos

Hitwise has released figures showing that YouTube's market share has actually gone up by 14% since removing 100,000 videos at Viacom's request earlier this month. As of Tuesday, YouTube was the 12th most visited internet domain in the US.
Perhaps more significantly, earlier this month YouTube traffic climbed higher than the traffic to every US television network's web sites combined. Sure, more people are watching TV than watching web videos. But when it comes to the battle for online eyeballs, YouTube is winning, with or without partnerships with major content producers.

Yougle 2.0: Watch YouTube videos through Vista Media Center
Yougle is a Windows Media Center plugin that lets you search, browse through , and watch videos from YouTube, Google Video, Grouper, and DivX Stage 6 from the comfort of your couch.Version 2.0 is in development, with support for Windows Vista. The developers are looking for alpha testers. Right now, there's a lot of work to be done, as you can search for videos with the latest version, but you can't watch them yet. That should be fixed any day now.
If you ask me, online video search is the sort of thing that Microsoft should be building into Media Center. But failing that, it's nice to see the user community and third party developers picking up where Microsoft leaves off.

Superman has to do the TPS reports - VIDEO
"I'm gonna end up doing it because, uh, I'm a big pussy. Which is why I work at Intertech to begin with."
A lot of you might remember that line from the cult hit Office Space. It was said by Ron Livingston (now on Standoff), but now it's being said by the Man of Steel himself, Superman. Someone has mashed together dialogue from the movie with an episode of The Superfriends, and the results are, well, super.
The great part about this is how the person who did it actually gets the casting down perfectly. Superman, the way he is drawn here, actually does look like Livingston, and The Green Lantern really does look like Gary Cole. The editing is well done too, even getting the facial expressions and reaction shots down. I also like how Aquaman is the sleazy horndog in the group. I always suspected that about him.

Check out some TV ads from the 50s and 60s
A lot of people collect things: stamps, baseball cards, snow globes, coffee mugs, T-shirts. I collect old advertisements. Whether it's print, radio or video, I'm fascinated by the ads of yesteryear, especially the 1950s and 60s.
So imagine my delight when Keith sent me a link to this, 25 minutes of TV commercials from the 50s and 60s on Google Video! Some great ads here, from vintage ads for Colt 45 (that's a beer) to cigarettes. A few ads for an oddly creamy shampoo for women, and there's a Coke ad in there too, and I swear the women doesn't just "like" Coke, she's thoroughly addicted (there's even an address to write to her - I wonder if we wrote something it would get to her, assuming she's still with us?). And that Heinz pickle ad with the old lady has instantly become one of my favorite TV commercials of all-time.
Oh, and if you wait til the very end? The last ad features a young Mrs. Garrett (Charlotte Rae) from The Facts of Life...naked in a shower! Woo-hoo!
Take a look at the retro advertising goodness after the jump.
