by Catherine Lawson, posted May 23rd 2011 6:12AM
Martin FreemanIt was a mixed bag for PBS last night at the BAFTA TV Awards in London as 'Sherlock' took home two trophies, but 'Downton Abbey' left empty-handed.

'Sherlock' won the coveted Best Drama Series Award, and Martin Freeman ('The Hobbit') won Best Supporting Actor for his role as Doctor Watson in the modern take on the 'Sherlock Holmes' mysteries.

However, Freeman's co-star Benedict Cumberbatch lost out in the Best Actor category to Daniel Rigby ('Flyboys') for his role as legendary British comedian Eric Morecambe in 'Eric & Ernie.' Rigby also beat out fan favorite, 'Doctor Who' star Matt Smith.

'Downton Abbey' was nominated for three major awards -- Best Drama Series, Best Supporting Actor and The Audience Award -- but failed to win any of them.

Kate Hudson, Tinie Tempah talk Hollywood sex, 'The Graham Norton Show'The magic of Hollywood works! Especially when it comes to the art of romance, as evidenced by British rapper Tinie Tempah's question to Kate Hudson on 'The Graham Norton Show' (Sat., 10PM ET on BBC America). Apparently, he's a huge fan of movies.

"I've always wanted to ask a movie star one question and one question only," he said.

"Make it a good one," Graham Norton advised.

"It seems like sometimes when they do love scenes," he started. "Do they do it for real, sometimes?" That's not Hollywood, Tinie.

Justin Bieber Busts Out His Jack Black Impression (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 13th 2010 12:40AM
Justin Bieber Busts Out His Jack Black ImpressionSixteen-year-old pop sensation Justin Bieber appeared on 'The Graham Norton Show' (Sat., 10PM ET on BBC America). But the young singer had a cold, and so he was unable to perform. That's some bad news. We'll take a short pause to allow you to mourn this loss. Short pause in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ...

... Excellent. And we're back! Plus, we have some good news which will help balance out the bad tidings. Although "J. Bieb" (as we call him) was too sick to sing, he had enough strength to bust out his impression of fellow guest Jack Black, which went a little something like this: "BEEEH DIKAA-DIK-A, NAH, BEH NA-BUUUH-NEYUUH!!"

Considering that Justin was pretty hoarse, it was pretty good! Mr. Black even gave Bieber a high-five when he was done -- then immediately requested some "Purell®" to wash his hands, so that he wouldn't catch J. Bieb's cold. ... Wow. We know some 12-year-old girls who would never wash their hands again, if they ever got to high-five Justin Bieber. Still, safety first, we guess ...

Bette Midler Falls Off the Couch -- While Hearing About Boxer David Haye's Sex Life (VIDEO)

Bette Midler Falls Off the Couch -- While Hearing About a Boxer's Sex Life Well, we all have our little routines. And on talk shows, this "routine" usually involves staying seated on the "guest's couch" while the other guests are talking. This wasn't the case on 'The Graham Norton Show' (Sat., 10PM ET on BBC America).

British boxer David Haye is the current WBA World Heavyweight Champion. He's fought 26 times and won 25 fights, including 23 knockouts. And during his time on the talk show, he managed to knock Bette Midler right out of her chair. David entered into a lengthy discussion of his pre-fight routine, with includes altering his diet ... and his sexual habits.

"You can have sex, but you can't ... 'unload'" Haye told host Graham Norton. It was at this point in the discussion that Ms. Milder simply couldn't take it anymore. She put her hand to her forehand, pretended to faint -- and collapsed to the side, falling off the couch.

'Harry Potter's' Daniel Radcliffe on the Weirdest Gift He's Ever GottenAs the star of the 'Harry Potter' film series, Daniel Radcliffe has no doubt received a bunch of odd presents from fans. ... Flowers, love letters, marriage proposals, and so forth. But on 'The Graham Norton Show' (Sat., 10PM ET on BBC America), the young actor discussed the weirdest gift he's ever gotten -- which came all the way from Japan.

While talking with Graham Norton, Daniel mentioned the gift of an enormous plastic novelty ear -- he got it randomly in the mail, sent courtesy of an adoring Japanese fan. Unfortunately, Radcliffe didn't know what to do with it. At first he thought the present might be an odd insult, considering the fact that he has "quite small ears." But it wasn't an insult -- and the actor eventually got to the bottom of it.

After bringing up the "plastic novelty ear" in interviews, Daniel talked about it during a Japanese press conference. Here's what happened next: "The whole place just cracked up! It was just some great Japanese joke that I hadn't been let in on!" So what was the joke?

Maggie Gyllenhaal on Losing an Oscar, Dancing With MadonnaActress Maggie Gyllenhaal appeared on 'The Graham Norton Show' (Sat., 10PM ET on BCC America). There, she discussed a (sort of) tragic loss, but also told the story of an unexpected benefit.

Maggie failed to win an Oscar award for Best Supporting Actress. She lost to eventual winner Mo'Nique. But she told host Graham Norton that she didn't think she would actually win, since her nomination was for the indie movie 'Crazy Heart.'

Though she did confess to a second or two of excitement: "When you're there... and they're opening the envelope and they say 'Mon-nnnique.' And that's a little like 'Maggie!'" Still, things didn't work out. Oh well. But Maggie didn't let her loss get to her.

Janet Jackson Discusses Getting Naked for 'Rolling Stone'Singer and actress Janet Jackson was the guest on 'The Graham Norton Show' (Sat., 10PM ET on BBC America). While on the show, she discussed her famously controversial cover shoot for 'Rolling Stone' magazine. On that cover, Janet appeared naked from the waist up, with her jeans unzipped, and with a man's hands cupped around her breasts. (In case you need a quick, um, refresher as to what that looked like, the image is right here.)

Host Graham Norton asked if Janet knew the man who was grabbing her breasts, or if it was "some really lucky photographer's assistant." Another boobs-related question: Did the man have good enough manners to warm up his hands before grabbing her?

Has Katy Perry Gotten Secretly Married to Russell Brand? (VIDEO)

Has Katy Perry Gotten Secretly Married to Russell Brand?Pop star Katy Perry appeared on 'The Graham Norton Show' (Sat., 10PM ET on BBC America). On the show, Katy discussed her upcoming marriage to Russell Brand. Or has their wedding happened already? Have the pair been secretly married? Even the show's guests seemed a little confused, and then Perry acted a little confused as well.

Host Graham Norton talked to Perry about her upbringing. As we've mentioned before, Katy was raised by a pair of very religious parents -- but now she's in a relationship with recovering sex addict Russell Brand. Still, Katy seemed pretty comfortable with herself. She appeared on the show wearing a skintight rubber/latex dress, for instance.

But when the questions turned to her impeding marriage, Katy seemed to get confused for a second. And this led to confusion on the part of everyone else. Did Katy and Russell get hitched already, or did she just misspeak? You be the judge.

Kelly Rowland Gets Hit in the Face With Dolphin PoopFormer Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland appeared on 'The Graham Norton Show' (Sat., 10PM ET on BBC America). And there, she discussed an unfortunate incident involving dolphins -- and their poop.

Rowland was on the show along with British comedian Bill Bailey. Mr. Bailey mentioned how he was told that swimming with dolphins was one of the "100 things to do before you die." But according to the comedian, swimming with dolphins isn't that much fun in real life, since the sea creatures don't actually seem to enjoy hanging out with humans that much.

Then, Kelly told an even worse story. Apparently, the one time that she tried to swim with dolphins, she got hit in the face ... with dolphin poop. She described it as looking like a white sheet of "paper." Wait? It was white? "Are you sure that was poop?" host Norton asked.

Tom Cruise vs. Chris Rock and Joshua JacksonA few weeks ago, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson and Chris Rock all showed up at the National Movie Awards in England. BBC cutbacks are imminent, but not where you might think

by Danny Gallagher, posted Mar 20th 2009 3:05PM
BBC logoIt's easy to forget in these troubling times that America isn't the only country that's feeling the tight, constricting pinch from the claw of the economic lobster.

This is a GLOBAL economic meltdown. Everyone is feeling that pinch and looking forward to the day when they can grab that lobster by the antennae, throw it in a boiling pot of water, rip off the tail, sprinkle it with butter, pepper and herbs and serve it in a roll with a side of waffle fries. Damn I'm so broke and hungry.

The British Broadcasting Corporation, however, has an interesting way of dealing with their economic problems. Instead of trimming at the bottom, they are aiming their gardening shears squarely towards the top.
