Idol controversy: Did producers rip-off 'American Band' idea?
by Liz Finn-Arnold, posted May 15th 2007 11:18AM
Last week, the producers of American Idol made a surprise announcement about the launch of a new reality show, called The Next Great American Band. However, the producers of a different reality competition, called America's Hot Musician, are claiming that they had the idea first -- and they're trying to halt the production of Idol's spin-off.America's Hot Musician is the brainchild of American Youth Symphony (AYS), a non-profit whose mission is "to promote instrumental music in the MTV/Hip Hop Generation," says AYS Artistic Director Gregory Charles Royal.
