NFL Prospect Pelts Dave Price With Football (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 21st 2010 1:30PM
Is there anyone on TV who takes more abuse than weatherman Dave Price? On 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS), Harry Smith convinces Rob Gronkowski, a college football player and prospective NFL draft pick, to throw a football at a bullseye target with Price's face on it, then lob a football at Price himself.

Gronkowski's first throw hits the bullseye with a great amount of power and speed. "Oh, you can throw at me, but you can't knock me down," Price taunts.

'Early Show' Is (Finally!) Going HD

by Jane Boursaw, posted Apr 21st 2010 7:34AM
The Early Show 'The Early Show' is finally going HD, according to a new report from Media Bistro. It seems a little odd that it's taken the show so long to switch, especially considering that its morning show rivals, 'Today' and 'Good Morning America,' already broadcast in HD.

Perhaps this is CBS' attempt to boost ratings and skew to a younger audience, which was nudged along a couple of years ago when it re-launched the show with a colorful new widescreen set. According to Media Life, the show averaged a measly 2.52 million viewers during the first three months of 2010, putting it in third place among the network morning news programs.

Kathy Griffin Goes Public With On-Camera Pap Smear

by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 15th 2010 4:03PM
kathy_griffin_the_advocate_coverLately, television has been getting more and more open and even invasive when it comes to keeping some things private. On VH1's E!'s 'Pretty Wild,' for instance, you can see the breasts of the ladies completely exposed with only the nipples blurred (as if that's the part that's not allowed on television!). On all the forensic dramas, the 'CSI's' and 'House,' getting inside the body is a regular, CGI-created event.

But for the really, really inside stuff, we've seen CBS's Katie Couric and Harry Smith having colonscopies on camera to illustrate the importance of the test in diagnosing colon cancer. And now Kathy Griffin will be the latest celebrity to lift the veil of privacy when it comes to the pap smear. On Wednesday, Kathy tweeted the news -- and invited the world: "Um, I'm getting a public pap smear, on camera, poolside @ The Palomar Hotel in LA Friday."

Harry Smith Flirts With Pussycat Dolls Founder (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 15th 2010 1:00PM
During a demonstration of the Pussycat Dolls workout on 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS), anchor Harry Smith flirts playfully with choreographer Robin Antin, who created the workout and founded the Pussycat Dolls in 1995. Between awkward attempts at matching Antin's moves, Smith tries to get Antin to reveal her age and stares appreciatively at her body.

Smith breaks the rules of decorum and asks Antin how old she is, and, when Antin won't answer, Smith presses her. Then, the anchor takes a gander at Antin's backside while she demonstrates squats. "In order to do it properly, I need to see how it ..." Smith said, trailing off while ogling Antin's rear.

Dave Price's On-Air Flub on 'The Early Show' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 12th 2010 11:30AM
Poor Dave Price! The weatherman for 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS) forgets a date when reporting a factoid during a forecast, causing anchor Harry Smith to laugh loud and long at the on-air flub.

Price correctly reports that the second highest wind gust ever recorded on Earth occurred on this date, but he can't recall the exact year. In fact, Price needs to consult his notes before he can accurately report that the gust occurred in 1934. "This is why I didn't do well in high school," he said.

Ben Stein Does a Money Rap on 'The Early Show' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 8th 2010 11:30AM
If there's one thing Ben Stein knows, it's money. And gangsta rap? Well, not so much. Still, the former host of 'Win Ben Stein's Money' combined the two on 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS), rapping about the importance of saving and investing wisely as a way to prepare for retirement.

After Stein, one of the co-authors of the new book "The Little Book of Bulletproof Investing: The Do's and Don'ts to Protect Your Financial Life," finishes his rap, anchor Harry Smith joins in with the most painfully stiff rap dance we've ever seen.

Dog Chews on Harry Smith's Microphone on 'The Early Show' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 7th 2010 11:30AM
W.C. Fields once famously warned against working with children or animals. Failing to heed this advice, Harry Smith found his microphone in the mouth of an excitable Golden Retriever named Wally on 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS).

Maggie Rodriguez relieves Smith of his microphone after the dog spends several minutes gnawing on it. Then, Smith asks weatherman Dave Price, "Did you teach him out to do that?"

"Yes, I did," Price replied. Bad, Dave! Bad!

Harry Smith and Barack Obama Play One-on-One Basketball (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 2nd 2010 1:30PM
On 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS), Harry Smith and President Barack Obama take to the court for a game of one-on-one basketball that doesn't go particularly well for either of them. Smith completely misses a three-point shot, and then Obama himself fails to make two consecutive shots from the three-point line.

It seems there are perks to being Commander-in-Chief, though. According to Smith, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs and others laughed loudly at his air ball. But the court was conspicuously silent when Obama missed his shots.

Toni Collette and Harry Smith Have Awkward 'Early Show' Moment (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Mar 17th 2010 4:00PM
On 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS), Harry Smith puts on a good display of asking Toni Collette a prepared question as if he didn't already know the answer. Collette, however, calls the anchor out on his show of acting, prompting Smith to share his notes, then change the subject by complimenting Collette's appearance.

"You look spectacular, by the way," said Smith, who then added hopefully, "I know you're jet-lagged and you won't remember this interview when it's over."

Matt Damon Sports a Porn Mustache on 'The Early Show' (VIDEO)

by Harley W. Lond, posted Mar 11th 2010 9:16PM
Does Matt Damon have something about lips?

Damon was on 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS) plugging his upcoming film 'Green Zone' and chatting with Harry Smith about some upcoming projects. "What's with the mustache," Smith asked him. "I'm going into porn," Damon responded. "It's really the only place left. But I'm going into '80s porn." Actually, he was growing a mustache for his upcoming stint on the Coen Brothers' remake of 'True Grit.' Later, Smith asked him about the rumors that he was going to play Liberace's young lover with Michael Douglas as Liberace. "Yes," Damon responded. "And as Michael said the last time I saw him, 'get your Chapstick ready.'"

Katie Couric Silences Dave Price During 'Early Show' Colonoscopy (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Mar 10th 2010 2:30PM
Remember, there's nothing funny about colonoscopies, especially if they happen on live television. Weatherman Dave Price attempts a bit of humor by forecasting a "full moon" during co-anchor Harry Smith's live colonoscopy on 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS), but Katie Couric fires back with a retort that firmly puts him in his place.

"I heard when they did your colonoscopy they actually found your head," Couric said to Price. "Is that true?"

'Old Spice' Guy: 'I Did It Like a Magician' (VIDEO)

The Early Show, Old Spice GuyOne of the most annoying commercials right now is the 'Old Spice' ad with the guy who ends up on the horse with Old Spice rising out of his hand like, well, we won't say what. The guy looks nice, but you just want to slap him.

Isaiah Mustafa stopped by the 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS) to talk about his fast launch to fame. He said the winning combo was when he read the lines "like a magician."

Harry Smith called it "the Adam West voice." We call it ripe for a 'Saturday Night Live' parody.
