Can '2 Broke Girls' Be TV's Next Great Female Buddy Comedy? (VIDEO)
by Nick Zaino, posted Sep 16th 2011 3:15PM
Could Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs of '2 Broke Girls' be the next Lucy and Ethel? 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM on CBS) explored the question as Mo Rocca took a look back at female friends on television, from 'I Love Lucy' to Mary and Rhoda, and Laverne and Shirley to evaluate how the newcomers might stack up."With '2 Broke Girls,' one is this working class waitress and the other one is a Manhattan heiress who also had a fall from grace," said Jess Cagle, EW editor. That compares best with 'Laverne & Shirley,' he said, as the pair support each other despite their differences and bond as friends.

TV Squad Mash: Dancing to the Beat
by Avaryl Halley, posted Jan 17th 2011 10:00AM
It's undeniable: 'Glee' is a sensation, a phenomenon, a pop cultural juggernaut thanks to its inventive song-and-dance numbers. So, we decided to put together a little tribute to all the TV musical/dance numbers that came before it and will certainly come after this Gleek invasion. The idea of a incorporating musical numbers into a weekly TV show has been around since the 1950's when Lucy "wanted to be in the show.' They haven't always been successful (see: 'Cop Rock', 'Viva Laughlin') but they have always pushed the boundaries and brought levity and warmth into our living rooms or more recently our computer screens.
Check out this compilation of some of the best musical and dance numbers throughout television history; reminding us all to shake it up, to break into song in the middle of work, to tap dance on your way to class, and always, always sing way too loud in your car.
Happy Good Neighbor Day: Saluting 10 Great TV Neighbors
by Rich Keller, posted Sep 28th 2010 11:20AM

Today we celebrate National Good Neighbor Day by thanking those who live around us who watch our kids when we're sick, let us borrow the chainsaw to cut down that dead oak in the front yard, lend us money and comfort when times are bleak and look the other way when they saw our wives kissing the mailman right on the mouth (to keep the marriage strife-free, of course).

A 'Laverne and Shirley' Remake for the Big Screen?
by Allison Waldman, posted Feb 10th 2010 10:37AM
Schlemiel! Schlimazel! Are you ready to see America's most beloved Milwaukee girls on the make on the big screen? According to director Garry Marshall, creator of 'Happy Days,' he has hopes to put the spinoff from that show, the successful 'Laverne & Shirley' to the movies. As with all the other hopes for silver screen adaptations, this one comes with some fanciful casting attached, too.Garry was on 'Extra' promoting his new romantic comedy 'Valentine's Day' and revealed the 'Laverne & Shirley' dream casting: Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel. That's right. This pair of Shotz Brewery factory employees -- who live in a basement apartment in 1960 Milwaukee and struggle to find the men of their dreams -- would be played by two of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. Is that a cynical way of looking at it? Yes, it is.

Macy's magical commercial: 150 years in the making
by Allison Waldman, posted Sep 27th 2009 5:20PM
Recently, when I shared my view about a certain Dell computer commercial, some of you thought I was a moron. Okay, we'll call it a difference of opinion. However, just to show you that I'm not a grumpster, allow me to extol the virtues of the Macy's commercial that celebrates this iconic American department story that's been around for over 150 years. What makes The Magic of Macy's so much fun is that it doesn't tell you why the place is legendary, it shows you why. All those film clips from movies and television, years before anyone was using mentions like these for commercial purposes, underscore how much a part of pop culture Macy's was.
(It still is, to some extent, but the days of one brick and mortar store dominating the business landscape are long gone.)
Here's a list of 100 iconic TV show openings (OK, maybe not 100 ... )
by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 26th 2009 12:28PM
Pop culture lists that have 100 or more entries, whether it's a list for television, film, music, books, advertising, whatever - are too long. When you list 100 of anything, you're not really getting down to the "best" (or "worst," if that's the theme of the list), you're just giving a list of 100.Supertremendous.com has their list of the 100 most iconic TV show intros. You can read the first 90, but I wanted to concentrate on the top ten. That list includes The Brady Bunch, The Simpsons, M*A*S*H, Knight Rider (???), and The Twilight Zone, along with the number one pick after the jump. Can you guess it before you click?
