Best and Worst TV of 2009: Michael P.'s list
by Michael Pascua, posted Dec 20th 2009 3:08PM

A year has passed and there has been a lot of best and worst lists here at TV Squad. I know tons of reality television shows have grazed my TV so I've compiled a list of the best and worst reality shows of 2009.
Finding the best shows are easy, but it's hard to pare down the worst list. I define "worst" as shows that had potential and never did anything with it. While shows like I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here and anything involving the words "Real Housewives" aren't mentioned, they aren't the worst because they started at rock bottom and had nowhere to go. Several of the worst shows I've mentioned could just go through some tweaking and it could have been amazing.
Summer reality TV alternatives
by Michael Pascua, posted May 21st 2009 11:03AM
With the latest seasons of Survivor, The Amazing Race, and American Idol wrapping up, fans patiently have to wait until the fall or spring 2010 for their favorite shows to return. But why wait? Several reality TV shows debut in the summer both as lighter fare than fall shows and a way to test for target audiences. If one recalls, several summer reality TV shows have eventually moved to prime real estate in the fall or spring. If rumors are true the summer favorite So You Think You Can Dance will be the next to move, airing in the summer and fall.
Here are some alternatives for your favorite reality TV shows.
What to Watch Tuesday, Aug. 5

'Secret Life of the American Teenager' (8PM, ABC Family)
It happens tonight: While pregnant teen Amy has been dealing with her impending unplanned parenthood for weeks now, she finally lets Mama Juergens, aka '80s teen queen Molly Ringwald, in on the news.
Ringwald has prior on-screen experience with the unplanned pregnancy thang: she starred as a teen mom in the 1988 flick 'For Keeps.' But whether or not she'll be understanding about band geek daughter Amy's sitch remains to be seen. After all, Anne's got problems of her own, namely her wandering hubby, and she's not likely to be pleased about the fact that Amy has taken five episodes -- er, several weeks -- to let her know she's gonna be a grandma.
Fans of ABC Family's surprise summer hit should be pleased, however, about the network's decision to order 13 more episodes of the show. The mama drama, uh, drama, will continue to air new episodes through September, with the newly-ordered batch of installments set to kick off in January.
